Howdy.

This is simply a thread to see what music everyone likes to listen to.
Genres, Bands, Singers, Instruments, and the likes.

I please ask that you don't judge nor start any arguments, as we are all friends here.

But anyway, I'll start with my favorite bands, including genre.

Between the Buried and Me- Progressive Metal/Heavy Metal Awesomeness, beyond belief.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPwEZ9hwmgk

Dakentucky-Ambience/Chill- This one guy is amazing! His songs are magnificent, you should look him up! http://www.myspace.com/dakentucky

Bassnectar- Dubstep - His name is Loren and he makes the best dubstep. BASS EXPLOSIONS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M-jOZRe0-8

Despised Icon- Death Core/Death Metal- These guys are just talented. Listen to the drums in this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mUfQq9SLT4

Mogwai- Alternative- I only know one song from them, as I am lazy to look up others. BUT ITS AWESOME. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLFd6k1BHDk

All Shall Perish- Death Core/Death Metal- First Deathmetal/Deathcore band I ever heard. Still love em though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLf22DItDIY

Born Of Osiris- Death Core/Death Metal- Awesome band with extreme talent. Love 'em. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EebCOQCspy8

As you can see, I'm kinda off the beaten path. I don't like mainstream because most of it is comprised of repetitive earsores.

I don't really like Rap, Hip-Hop, Pop, Country, Rock, Classic Rock, Soft Rock, or Blues. Sorry if this angers you. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

BIG EDIT

Just discovered Ambience/Post-Modern/Chill music that literally made my eyes water for very specific reasons. YOU MUST ALL HEAR IT.

Keith Kenniff - Revelry (http://soundcloud.com/keithkenniff/keith-kenniff-revelry)

Even if you dont like the music, you gotta appreciate the lyrics he writes.

I've created like 10-15 songs/tracks using a pretty basic program called Cakewalk Kinetic & Kinetic 2. I'd be interested in hearing what you got!

Agreed. They rock the crap out of everything. All of them (except AILD, not a big fan). If you like them, you should definitely check out Animals As Leaders, created my Misha (Bulb, Periphery).

OH and A Different Breed Of Killer, they broke up and my bro is in a band with their Vocalist and Guitarist. He's the other guitarist. They're named Perseus or something and are about to get signed by ABDOK's company. Look em up on myspace.

Wherever i go, i always find people who love heavy/metal. I personally despise the stuff, really really hate it http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

But i listen to anything new in the charts, stuff like Hip Hop and R'n'B, i also have a bigg passion for Rap, only rappers like Eminem, Devlin, Pro Green and old school rappers like Coolio, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent catch my liking. People who write sensational lyrics are the people who catch my eye..

I love how this thread shows how we are all extremely different in certain ways, but we were all brought together in this place thanks to Trials hahaha

Some of the bands I'm diggin to at the moment:
For Today
Disfigured Elegance
Miss May I
Resist the Thought
Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza
Within the Ruins

Metal is my main genre of choice, but I like seriously anything... Some days I turn on the jazz radio station in my area. I love big band music. Country is good (Brad Paisley puts on an amazing live show). Some of the "top hits" are decent. T.I. is awesome. Eminem is good.... Gotta love music! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Nice thread. Here's a general dump of stuff I've been listening to recently. I'm mostly into dark/atmospheric music, just a heads up.

Low (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AzLgswmJxA) - Slow depressive pop music - sort of.
Dead Can Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8XNg3iB4sA) - I don't know what this really. A really gothic sound with influences from around the world. I've been absolutely crazy about this band lately.
Wolfbrigade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhZ7m-8Y9_8) - Swedish crust punk with the just the right mix of melody and anger.
Lustre (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIAV-6UEros) - I'm prone to label this ambient with black metal influences. Contender for album of the year on my part. Amazing atmosphere. Huge.
Amebix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvMG4aQefpg) - Iconic crust punk pioneers, this being a slower song.
Whirl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5vpPgIxYoE) - American shoegaze from 2010, also a possible album of the year.
Horn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwPJqOCpctU) - Forest-/nature themed black metal from Germany. He really captures the feeling that he's after and does it all with really beautiful melodies and song structure.
Urfaust (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jijAN4PaImQ) - Dutch black metal with one of the most unique sounds in the genre. Another great album from 2010.
Arizmenda (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JenmPZlhJAc) - Absolutely psychotic and deranged black metal band from California (what?). I dare you to listen to this release in its entirety (really loud) and still feel like a functioning human being afterwards.

Holy crap, I am going back in time about 10 years, I messed around with Acid 4.0 and made some rather horrible music with some friends, some of them even thought they could rap. They couldn't.

I play all of the (easy) guitar/bass/keyboard bits in these songs, arranged the music/set levels, tried to make them not suck.

They still suck.

I uploaded them about 8 years ago I think, but they were finished when I was 17, so 11-12 years ago.

Anyhow, here's a link to my old-unused artist profile page with links to play/download/rate my songs. (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=126484&t=1092)

PS: Tribute is not the Tenacious D version, but a wholly unremarkable composition by me, but at least I played everything in it, except for the drums, but I sequenced that out by hand, that's why it gets kinda repetitive.

A really really really REALLY good guy I heard just the other day is Dakent. His myspace is http://www.myspace.com/dakentucky . He has the most chill and best music out of anything you will ever hear.

Its only 1 guy, and he makes the nicest sounding music, I suggest listening to Noon or Banger (Blaq Bear Remix) first. It almost makes me sad that he is virtually unknown.

*I have played in many a band from metal to a one man show. I have opened for a ton of local bands by myself, and here are a few of my songs I gone and writ' for such events-

http://www.myspace.com/burkeowen

While my palette leans toward a more subtle approach to aural pleasure, I swing the entire musical spectrum in taste. Lately its been:
Empire of the Sun - sounds like: the 1980s resurrected in the 25th century

Tom Waits - sounds like: If a pirate wrote really cool pirate songs. and jazzy numbers. and ballads.

Bright Eyes - sounds like: Happiness with a side of pathos. You are automatically smarter and a better person for listening to this.

Starflyer59 - sounds like: The most consistently awesome super rock band that never was famous. Seriously my favorite band by a long shot.

Yeah, kind of rubs me the wrong way too. You have to admit though, it would be a mistake to classify them as christian music, because its not. You would have no clue they were on a christian label from the music. Also, lyrically the songs offer almost zero religious references and are quite dark at times. Its tragic they have that genre attached to them, I can't say enough good things about em' .(Like I said, love this band, except for the first 2 albums)

And it's what I think of when I hear the words "cheesy as hell". Funny thing about opinions. Here's some that I find to be beautiful:

Slowdive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX1IqhgtAis)
Dead Can Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53QCtNWcbD8)

Blut Aus Nord (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB1ACDkkhIU)
Summoning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rosj5h3jI2U), I'm aware that this is cheesy (not in the same sense as the guitar guy) beyond reason. Try to appreciate it for what it is without being too judgemental.

I don't have a specific band or person that I listen to, mainly because I find one song by them and then hate all the rest.I don't usually like slow songs but more upbeat music with a good beat.I guess the main genre I listen to is pop. These are the songs that I have on my IPOD:

Bulletproof - La Roux
The Catalyst - Linkin Park
Dynamite - Talo Cruz
Foget You - Cee Lo Green
I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas
Iridescent - Linkin Park
Knee Deep - Zac Brown Band
The Lazy Song - Bruno Mars
M!ssundaztood - Pink
Part Rock Anthem - LMFAO
Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People
Rolling In The Deep - ADELE
Stereo Hearts - Gym Class Heroes
Super Bass - Nicki Minaj
Take A Minute - K'naan
Thats Not My Name - The Ting Tings
They Don't Care About Us - Michael Jackson
'Till I Collapse - Eminem and Nate Dogg
We Found Love - Rihanna

Like I said my music is just random.

A selection of stuff I've been listening to so far 2012:
Discharge (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GzUh4PJVx8) - CLASSIC punk.
King Dude (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEF7cs2fjxA) - Up and coming, super hip American folk.
Scratch Acid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXOLmPMbRAU) - Noise rock.
Flipper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaeBGKZK6r8) - THE noise punk band (my avatar confirms this).
Of the Wand and the Moon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MU4EMIgdb0) - Danish neofolk, in the vein of older bands of said genre.
Bone Awl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4Mo64waLEs) - American punk oriented black metal. Some might say it's the other way around.
Toadliquor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsPorTyaI8c) - Crushing sludge/doom. Hard to categorize though, it's pretty unique.
Martyrdöd (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFmhP_31Zvo) - Very well made crust punk with a metallic edge.
Swans (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsXsxehyPpc) - Swans are Swans, and that's that.
Brainbombs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baEiu2NCDek) - Brilliant noisy perversion. One riff per song.
Vlad Tepes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWrEMBdEwrU) - French 90's underground black metal. As kvlt as it gets.

^^^ some really good bands I've never heard of there! Cheers dude, you've got good taste in music. Less into the punk stuff but the folk/metal/sludge/swans stuff improved my working day immensely.

I sort of regretted making that post, I figured I'd spent time on something noone would care about. Glad you liked some of it! I can only assume you have good taste in music too.

^^ I for one am happy you made it. Not really listened to much off King Dude but liked him immensely. Reminded me of a darker Devendra Banhart and a bit like Daniel Johnston. I've been listening to a bit of Dead Moon and Rocket from the Tombs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMHJFou8SOU) recently -you may like them too.

Opeth - Hessian Peel (http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Hessian+Peel/11PbRf?src=5)

Just Effing Brilliant. In so many ways. Also, the drummer is ridiculously skilled/creative. God damn I'm really loving Opeth these days...

Blut Aus Dem Norden!

fnwnRHj4LFgI love BaN! I have barely listened to anything more recent than Memoria Vetusta II, though. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90Kxg3Sdtk8)'s a favorite from Memoria Vetusta I.

Prurient (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOClMqKpErs) - beautiful noise.
Raspberry Bulbs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf0EnvcpjGM) - Very punk-oriented black metal.
Godflesh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw1VWd5UyJU) - It's Godflesh. Metal, sort of industrial. Ahead of its time.
Current 93 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABGwg8cHTMc) - Psychotic neofolk.
The Cure (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyG3AtzN1OM) - I don't think I have to explain this.
Om (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9wvOCaDIR0) - Trippy stoner metal.
Thyrkron (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIdXV1bCVxA) - Underground BM from Brazil. Some of the best riffs I've heard in a long time.
Einstürzende Neubauten (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3u9xhtscig) - Pioneers of all kinds of things.
Dead Can Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjihDvgCQcI) - New album (16 years since the last one) from one of my all time favorite acts two days before my birthday! Not sure what to call it, try it out for yourself.
Whitehouse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZt_VUvVXMg) - Might have posted this before but they deserve to be mentioned again. Very disturbing. "Perfectly well made art".

This is some music I've been listening to recently. Don't know if anyone cares, but last time I recommended music at least Skag appreciated it!

XisForEyes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9-iAW5O_Es) blackened deathcore, some of the best deathcore you'll find, most of the stuff in this genre is utter crap.
Encoffination (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPPjBQn_RVA) Death/Doom metal, as dumb as it can ever get but it's awesome at the same time.
Swallowed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phy-xHJOEa0) Death/doom metal from finland.
Ondskapt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2ncSImphdk) Swedish Black metal, one of my favorite band.
Impetuous ritual (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ3q9O3HVcU) Blackened death metal whith some of the most chaotic sounds I've ever heard

PS. Why would Encoffination be dumb?

Because it never changes, some times i'm confusing one song for another, and that never happend to me before http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/razz.gif

I love PORTAL too, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA5zWBVQXHg&feature=plcp) is my favorite song of them.

This song used to pop into my head every once in a while, and I would always think, "I can't believe after all these years that I still haven't found the name of that song!" Well, I finally found it, and it only took a couple of hours of Google searching. You wouldn't believe how many songs repeat the word "round" more than 5 times in a row, http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
It would have made it so much easier if I'd just remembered the word "bandages."

I finally ended up finding it by doing a verbatim search for:
"around around around around around"|"round round round round round"|"round and round and round and round and round" -ratt -"selena gomez" lyrics
