View Full Version : Gameplay & Control system question

Sorry if you've already answered this somewhere!

Having tried the 360 controller with Trails 2 and found it was pretty unusable (imo) I am very interested in how it will work in Trails HD.

I am assuming that not only has the control system itself been heavily refined from Trails 2 but that the gameplay itself differs. Can you guys comment on what changes have been made? Is the ability to move the rider in an analogue fashion readily usable? Is there a requirement on some tracks to accelerate at less than full.. etc..

Well.. we know the controls:

Bike controls:
- Fully analog acceleration, brake and leaning
- Accelerate: Right trigger or A button
- Brake: Left trigger or X button
- Leaning: Left analog stick or dpad
- Bail out: Y button
- During bail out - grab objects: Y button (hold)
- During bail out - fly: Left analog stick
- Fast reset (track): Back button
- Fast reset (checkpoint): B button

Apart from that, Only people who have played the game know anything about how it feels. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

Errrrrm.. Take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPaPRVLWVj4

It could help you in some way of knowing.. of how the character moves & stuff.

All controls are fully analog. So you can accelerate with half the power if you fear flipping backwards on a steep upwards slope, or brake very slightly if you dont want to end up on your face on a downwards slope. Leaning is fully analog too, so you can adjust your rider balance very carefully if you feel that sudden change is too much for the situation. The analog controls are very important in some of the hardest tracks, especially on very steep upwards slopes. Analog brake is also very useful in many situations (esp when you are finetuning your track record times).

Also the bike physics have been completely redone in Trials HD, so the controls are not 100% comparable. Trials HD has been tuned to work with the Xbox 360 controller from the beginning, and the game has been finely tuned to work perfectly with it. Xbox 360 pad support was added as an afterthough for Trials 2 SE in a game patch. Trials 2 SE didn't support analog controls at all, and the button layout wasn't that optimal either.

Thanks for the replies. I had forgotten that the Trails 2 method was digital only. I haven't seen those videos before and yes they do explain how it comes together! Thanks Enkeixpress! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
