View Full Version : Not Another Realism Argument

This is not meant to be any realism argument but a feature I would somehow like to see is 3d camera cockpit viewing. The current way the view system works you are controlling only 2 dimensions of the camera. When I am flying and a plane is blocked by part of the cockpit, I could move my head left or right in real life to compensate. With the current view system you have to move the plane to keep your target in visual range if it is blocked by a cockpit frame. If the camera could somehow be moved around the cockpit, perhaps by using the mouse button. When the button is held you have a limited range you can move around the cockpit, when the button is not held the view will control the 2 dimensions of the camera. Not a war, just something to think about.

I get the feeling that Virtual reality head sets will probably be the future of Online Gaming.

Woa! what a way to be connected to the internet eh!
I reckon that sort of technology would be needed for the sort of views you wanted, as in 3D Virtual reality.

I would like FB to have a facility similar to that in Aces High where you have full cockpit but have the option to move your head or point of view up or down, forward or back, left or right for each view that you have - you can then save that view using F10 and you have the ability to maximise your view from the a/c.

No padlock means that you need the views on yr stick so you can follow a/c around - works very well with practice and would make things far better without losing the cockpit only view.

I think moveable head position is coming in BoB. It's too late to incorporate such a major change into the IL2 code.

It'll make a lot of people very happy, me included.

Now if only NaturalPoint would bring out some 3D tracking gizmo to slave the extra axis to. Maybe a gyro you wear on your head? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

In some helo games (eg, Gunship!)you can make the Cockpit translucent. If made an option in FB, the entire cockpit would remain solid but the canopy frames would be translucent. Just enough so that you could maintain tally(padlock) on your bogey as you manouver your plane into position. The fact that the canopy frames obscure air targets during ACM is one of the chief reasons some prefer "No Cockpit". However, seeing targets in relation to your canopy frames is particularly helpful in maintaining SA and is the reason I fly "Cockpit On" with TIR2.

In "real life" we can refocus between a distant object (like a bogey or tank column) and the instrument panel in a fraction of a second. In FB its way more difficult since you cannot continuously zoom your FOV like in LOMAC. Having translucent canopy frames would copensate somewhat for this deficiency.
