View Full Version : Why can't AI 'see' V-1s?

If a V-1 flew right past his nose my (AI) wingman would completely ignore it.

Can this (should this?) be 'fixed' in a future patch?

It should, I`ve also wondered if they will appear in any AI dynamic campaign after the patch. It will certainly need to be addresses so AI sees V1s; ESPECIALLY important for Battle Over Europe. EAW AI saw V1s and went after them in Campaign.

We`re coming for that Patch ready or not!

From what I read, AI can't see V~1 because V~1 are a totally different type of programming object than aircraft.

No, it may not be fixable. AI aircraft interacting with cruise missiles may need to be planned for inclusion at the start of sim programming, and this sim was started when the IL~2 was the only planned Flyable plane -- lol I don't even want to think about that.

I'm not to sure about this myself. But V-1's are not seen as Aircraft (Already mention here) so if you kill one, you won't get the Kill, but it's not really seen as anything else (Ground Object's etc....)so again it doesn't come up as a Ground Kill either. The only thing I can think of is a V-1 is seen as an Object from the "Object" Menu and in turn doesn't get seen as an "Aircraft", "Ground Target" etc.... But it does get seen as a "House" for example (No kills register, A.I ignore's it etc....)

Not much help and too much waffle http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

AI may not can "see" V-1s, but you can padlock them when designated as a ground target. This is not an option for the FR crowd, but it does indicate how they are categorized as objects.

To padlock air targets you press F4
To padlock gnd targets you press F5

I know that pressing F5 works to padlock a V1 in flight... done it... So... try that then tell your wingman to attack your target via the ATTACK MY TARGET options... It works for ground targets... so it should work for the V1?

Well, I cannot understand why V1s were not designed as simple `aircraft` so AI could see them. Unfortunately, it seems Oleg has focused too much on online without giving the alternative options for offline play (such as Campaigns.

I was really hoping in Campaigns such as BOE that i`d be able to chase V-1s with my wingmen and take them down as I loved doing in EAW.

A wonderful Campaign add-on wasted. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

You'd think the V-1s would be classifed as aircraft. I don't see how Oleg has "focused too much on online" when the V-1 behaves the same offline. To the contrary, Oleg has plainly stated their demographics show the majority of IL-2/FB/AEP purchasers do not play online. Fortunately for those of us who prefer online, he has not ignored that aspect.

Well I guess my point is that V1`s are really only useable online because to fly in a `realistic` situation with several fighters taking on several V1s you`ll need to fly ONLINE with HUMAN players. Try the same thing with AI fighters OFFLINE and you`ll be on your own while AI fighters ignore the V1s. The V1`s can only really be used in a COOP-type mission with Humans.

So this is why I say that Oleg paid more attention to Onliner`s in this case. I hope Extreme one`s Campaign somehow gets around this.

It may be very good that your wingmates don't see the V1's.

I have not tried the V1 missions but there is somewhere that it's dangerous to shoot one because at the distance you might destroy it you might also get caught in the blast. So in the game, you are supposed to tip the V1. And suppose while you are trying that, your dummy AI wingmate lets it have a lod of ammo?

Has anyone tipped a V-1 over yet?

I can't do it and I'm not a bad pilot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I have not been able to successfully tip a V-1 without catastrophic results (to me). I've setup a couple of FMB missions using P-51s in one, YP-80s in the other. I'm a fair hand at close formation flying and have a pretty steady hand. The biggest problem I have is trying to gauge lateral depth. I assume any contact other than the most gentle registers as a midair collision with predictable results. As for shooting them, be sure to have significant distance because their explosions are huge. In my missions I have the V-1s launch from positions deep in Normandy and target the mythical island off the coast. One V-1 can nearly wipe out the town depicted there.

That is to say if I padlock something... then tell the AI to "attack my target" and then padlock something else or turn off padlock the AI will not/never attack that target... *sometimes*

So, try padlocking the V1 via F5, tell wingies to attack my target.. and dont padlock something else... give them 10 min or so.. it works that way for GROUND GROUND targets... Maybe it works that way for AIR GROUND targets?

Good thought, Tagert, I must try that. As for what WWMaxGunz said about AI shooting V1s and blowing themselves up, well i`m sure there`s ways around it. As for as I know pilots DID try shooting V1s (I would if I felt nervous about tipping them).

If Oleg DID manage to have the AI `see` V1s it would be interesting.

1.Rookie AI could shoot at V1s and always miss and/or always get too close and blow themselves up.

2.Average AI would average between hitting successfully without blowing themselves up and missing.

3.Veteran would hit most times from long range shooting. Maybe attempt the odd tipping?

4.Ace? Hit most times, but would also attempt tipping a lot with most being a success?

Just a thought.... will never happen now.

I thought i had it sussed but no... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

I had an AI Mustang 'see' a V-1! I'd made a ground attack waypoint and set the V-1 (airstart) as the target. The wierd thing is that only once has the plane chased the rocket (and STILL didn't catch it) and all the other times he circles the area which the rocket originated from...

Back to the drawing board I suppose...

Booooooo! Its like you guys are talking about a ghost!

How come this is so? I mean can't it just be an AI only plane? Is there some sort of complications that come with trying to program the thing to crash into stuff which is obviously the opposite of everything else.

In the README it says they ran into the same problem with the Mistel since it splits into two planes...
