Hey guys, I was informed by hunter that the best sound card for il-2 fb(because it eats up really low cpu cycles) is either the audigy gamer or audigy 2 gamer. I have decided on the audigy gamer because i am on a budget. My question: anybody have one that can tell me that they what they think of it. And why isnt the audigy GAMER on the creative website?

I have the Audigy Gamer on one of my machines, and it does work well. As for not listing it at the Creative site, it may be out of production. I have seen the base Audigy cards at Frys' and similar retailers in the last month or so. It is supported on the Support site; I recently got a download of the latest drivers for mine.

I used their automatic update option where they check your machine to see if you have the latest drivers and recommend what you need.

P.S. Are you a snowball throwing NY/NJ fan, or a battery chucking SF fan?

Can't add much to what horseback said. I've had mine for about 18 months. It was a revelation when I first installed it and has never caused me any problems. Also it must be pretty cheap now (cost me 50 for the OEM version).
Go ahead.

i have one and I like the card alot. There is an update for the drivers on the creative website. So check it out.
I heard that it is limited production that mey be why it's not on the web site.
Plus it came with a lot of cool games.

I`ve got it too, very reliable and FB loves it on max acceleration. Can`t see the point of getting the 2 version (except it costs the same now as when i bought the gamer).

Good solid card.

very nice cards indeed, get the 7.1 creative speaker system for even more immersion, it will make your gaming a lot better. you might find yourself looking over your shoulder and saying out loud "hello, is anyone there?" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I just read that there is no hardware difference between the regular audigy and the gamer or x-gamer. The only difference is the sofware that comes with it? Is this true?

I believe you're correct about the hardware being the same, although I have no hard knowledge. I got a batch of games with the software that I never play.

The battery chucking reference is from an incident a number of years back when Tony Gwynn got beaned with a D-cell while the Padres were playing the Giants in Candlestick. Jim Rome was a local SD talk show host back then, and from that time on, Giants fans were alwaysreferred to as "battery chucks." http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

PS- go to il2setup and select Soundblaster settings on the Sound tab; ingame, on the Audio menu, you'd select "Default". Works for me.

I don`t see any difference between Aud and Aud2 - except EAX

Great card indeed.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I got a SB Audigy Gamer last month after using my motherboard sound for awhile. The difference in sound quality alone was instantly noticeable as much better. If there was a hit on my FPS, I haven't noticed it.

Good hunting,
