View Full Version : AEP version question: somebody out there should know this

I have the international version of FB installed (and patched); my version comes from the States even though I live in Switzerland (thanks again Tbolt!). I am understandably eager to get AEP, but what's more I rather like having an English version. I also don't want to risk paying an outrageous import tax by shipping it from another country (last time I paid 50% of the cost of the software ordering from the UK), and don't want to pay more for an imported US version.

So the question is, if I buy a local German-language copy of AEP, will it install in German over top of my English version? I understand German well enough, but as often as I play FB I don't want to have to deal with it. I'd especially like the readme and the rest to be in English.

Anyone know? Experience says that it will be in German... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

Now this is a perfectly good reason for the Swiss to join the EU, so you can import games from the UK!

My AEP is from the UK and there are read me files in German, French, and English so I think it's a standard European version and will install to the same language as your FB. I am not 100% sure about this but it seems logical. My FB installation was UK English and I had a selection of languages to choose from when I installed it so I suppose AEP just patches the game in the appropriate language.

Please don't get angry with me if I'm wrong http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Mike, my english version which I got in the USA, can be installed in the following languages

English
French
German

The German language version you're speaking of may be the same. Have you tried posting in the German forum?

Localisation setting is in conf.ini

Look for

[rts]
;ProcessAffinityMask=1
mouseUse=2
joyUse=1
trackIRUse=1
DisableIME=0
locale=

The last line has locale=de for German, nothing for English, IIRC it's fr for French.

AEP is multi-lingual I understand.
And eh Import tax http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif lol
Let them send it declared as a GIFT (i'm surprised they didn't do that themselves)
no taxes then http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well Amazon sends it as it is, they don't fool with sending it as a gift. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sounds like I can buy it locally and it will be installable in English. I don't mind the packaging being in German. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Cheers all, C!

Live and learn Mike. I could have simply sent it as a "gift" and insured it for $5. That would have foregone any import tax issue (I've since done this for a squaddy in Canada).

Sooooo, If you want an English version of Aces without the added headaches, this might be a solution. Just let me know. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
