MS - To develop a realistic simulator narrows the target market and also requires more work time and hence more money. Wouldn't you have rather develop a more accesible simulator to the general audience in the Novalogic style that would have made more revenue?

OM - I rather develop realistic simulators with realism features for the rookies. And I prefer as much realism as posible within the limits already mentioned: time and founding plus the limits in desktop PC's power.

MS - Nonetheless there are some flight simulator fans that think IL2 FB is not as realistic as it looks like. In your forum there's a lot of arguments, some of them well documented, that point inaccuracies in FMs and DMs in the simulator. What do you think about those?

OM - Some inaccuracies may be present. But can we compare Forgotten Battles with other simulators set on the same historic timeframe? (WWII Simulators). Is there a better simulation? I don't think so. Anyways, I personally don't agree with some of those "documented" posts. It's just that in some cases people read wrong booklets or base their opinions on tales from pilots of one side. A good example was in the front view from the FW-190 cockpit and the location of the gunsight. Finally I had to end all the arguments and show who was right (anyway someone will still disagree so I'll probably post the pictures from the restored FW-190 from original blueprints with proper authorization from the owner of those pictures).

Another important issue is that we put in a simulator a lot more than anyone ever did before us. Just to think that it was developed by a modest development team... it's hard for such a small team to control everything inside the huge code; this is a lot like some huge scientific research projects due to its size and complexity... Or we would need to raise a lot the cost of the final product and hire more people to work for us. You need money and time for everything. That's a fact.

In my opinion, the term "well documented" is only valid when I see the originals, not "scanned" documents. MS - There's even some fans that accuse you of intentional bias towards the soviet a/c either for patriotic reasons or just to balance both sides and make it more fun, to improve playability.

OM - Inaccuracies or programming mistakes aren't the same as patriotism. Look at my surname, is it russian? isn't it british? then why do I personally almost always fly online the Bf109?

With the patch everything should be correct. It's just that with all the rush on releas we made some mistakes that went unnoticed, even with a big testing team. But even in that case, it's a lot more closer to reality than other simulators. A lot more... If someone thinks otherwise, they should show me that other simulator and tell me in what part it's more realistic.

MS - Have compromises been made to playability in order to balance the sides? (*)

OM - In my personal opinion, everything is tightly adjusted. But we need even more adjusting than we are doing now. With all that many a/c and weapons modelled in a simulator is very difficult to have everything controlled during development. This is the reason why we decided to develop a new simulator with a less number of a/c than in IL2 and of course, Forgotten Battles. The ocasional user can't even imagine how much time and effort it took to develop the 3D modelling, research and programming of every a/c. With more complex code and, as a result, bigger and more complex adjustements will make us invest more and more time and effort on every a/c, ground units and objects, etc.
