View Full Version : So....where does everyone play these days?

Re-installed IL2:46 after....years of not playing. Hopped on HL and saw that there weren't alot of servers these days that actually had people on them (and decent pings for California). Have people moved to a different program, or is it just that nobody plays online anymore?

A lot are playing Rise of Flight, some are playing IL2: Cliffs of Dover, some of us just got old, got married and had kids....there's still a core of regulars, though they rarely visit here.
Check out the forums at http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Home-Community and http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/forumdisplay.php?f=98 for busier places to discuss.

There's also the upcoming IL2: Battle of Stalingrad, forums at http://forum.il2sturmovik.net/

Lots of people still play online, but the days of mass interest in DF servers seem to be waning. I haven't even had HL installed for several years. It is common for people to set up their own events via direct IP now, but that makes it harder for a casual player to get involved.

I was on HL last week and there were under a hundred on.. 12 in the lobby. I try to get on on Fridays... It is so hard to do that 4-6 day a week thing like I used to back in the day. I don't even get to do much of BoS either.. although I have to say it is shaping up pretty nice. Cliffs of Dover is a whole new product.. and WWI was never my thing but I still do RoF occasionally .. but it just blows my mind that what really really floats my boat ... still .. is IL2. Maybe it is the familiarity with the interface .. sure the graphics are a little dated.. but it still looks good to me.. and I still manage to pull of a QM or two before I leave the house in the morning for work 2 or 3 mornings out of the week.. IL2 was the best entertainment investment I ever made bar none.. I also visit M4T and SHQ pretty regularly although I don't always post... and yeah.... I think the IL2 community was great... it still is.. but it is just less connected. I'll bet there are a lot of folks who do just like I do and fire up a QM when they can.. Friday nights are good nights for HL.. you should reinstall it.. it doesn't have a big footprint..
