There are no further changes in decks and sideboards possible after this deadline.
These decks will be published by a member of the Team at mmdocking.com throughout Sunday, 16. 2.
Sideboards will remain secret and private until such a time, when player decides to use them.

16. 2. Live draft of Main Event Groups - the Main Event begins!

Live draft of groups will happen at twitch.tv/duelofchampions right after conclusion of Underdog Finals.
Estimated time: 22:00 CET.
Groups: HERE (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah9zrqBT410qdE5RMVBzc2JkaU9BOFNwLWlNMnYye lE&usp=sharing#gid=0)

Group Phase rules:

All participants who will have 'beaten the Jack' at the time of Main Event Qualifiers closure, will be automatically entered into Main Event Group Phase.
3 winners of the Underdog Qualifiers will also be automatically entered.
List of Qualified participants can be found here (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/821354-Beat-the-Jack-Screenshot-submissions!?p=9467031&viewfull=1#post9467031).
The Group Phase games will take place from 16. 2. to 22. 2.
Participants will be divided into equally sized groups*, competing in Best of 3 matches against each other.

*If not possible, a different Group system will be announced prior to the Group Phase.
Each Victory grants a point. At 2:0, 3rd game is not played.
Players with the most points in group advance. In case of a tie, winner of tied players' Best of 3 advances. In case of a more - way - tie, player with the least Defeats advances.
Number of Groups as well as number of advancing players from each Group will be specified along with publication of the Groups.

Players can only use submitted decks + their sideboards for the whole duration of Main Event. There are no further changes in decks and sideboards possible.
Suggested means of communication are: this very thread, forum Private Messages or the mmdoc.net/chat/
Participants will be required to submit all replays and Victory/Defeat screenshots at mmdoc.replays@gmail.com

Please use one email address only for all submissions.
Please feel free to add a short commentary to the submitted replays (mark which applies to which), along with a suggestion of the best replay in your opinion.
In the email header, please specify Usernames of players involved as well as the final score.

Failure to play out all Group Phase games or contacting both the opponents and a member of the Team (i.e. Uraxor - Rancord - JasonParadise) will result into irrevocable forfeiture of games (present player will be assigned 2:0 Victory score) and Qualifier Prizes.
If both players are present, however fail to play their game, both will be assigned 0 Victory points and 0 losses for their match. The match will be considered as failed to play and therefore both involved players will lose their rights to the Qualifier Prize.
In case of in-game bug, provable by a screenshot, game will be considered a Tie. Tie grants each player 0.5 Victory points and the Best of 3 continues until such time, when one of the competitors reaches 2 or 2.5 Victory points. At that moment, he is considered winner of the Best of 3, the Best of 3 ends and the winner is awarded 2 Victory points. This rule may be disregarded when one player's screenshot and replay (if openable) prove he was inevitably going to win on his nearest turn.
Chosen replays of the Group Phase will be streamed on Sunday, 23. 2. at http://en.twitch.tv/duelofchampions, starting at 19:00 CET.

The 8 advancing players will be announced at the end of the stream.
Top 8 will proceed into the Main Event Shootout Phase.

Shootout Phase rules:

Brackets will be posted on Monday, 24. 2.
Quarterfinals will be Streamed Live through the Spectator Mode on Tuesday, 25. 2. at http://en.twitch.tv/duelofchampions, starting right after the Team Stream at 19:00 CET!
Competing players will be asked to be present and able to play their games on this day at this time. If they cannot make it, we need to know as soon as possible to reschedule their Quarterfinals.
In Best of 5.
Players are allowed to use any submitted deck, and they are allowed to use their sideboards prior to all games in 1 for 1 fashion (i.e. the deck's number of cards will remain unchanged).
Players will be notified by a member of Team of their opponent's Hero choice before using their sideboard and entering each match.

Grand Finale:

Semifinals, Final game and the match for 3rd place will be Streamed Live through the Spectator Mode on Sunday, 2. 3. at http://en.twitch.tv/duelofchampions, starting at 17:00 CET (Semifinals) and roughly 19:00 CET for 3rd and Finals.

Competing players will be asked to be present and able to play their games on this day at this time. If they cannot make it, we need to know before the weekend starts.
Rules will remain same as for the Quarterfinals with two changes:
For 3rd and Finals will be Best of 7.
For 3rd and Finals sideboarding will be without limitations; i.e. adding or removing cards only (so long as the deck remains valid & consists of only registered cards) is allowed.

I was wondering how sideboard and different decklists are mixed up. I mean what the point of sideboarding if we dont know what we are playing against next round ? Or maybe we can choose one of our 3 decks to play the whole bo3/5/7 ? Or maybe king of the hill format, only the loser can change decks but both can sideboard ?

I think we will know deck of our opponent before the match and then we can sideboard.

Both players will declare their chosen deck for each match to the Caster. Once each player will have made his choice, the Caster will announce their choices. After that, the players will be allowed to use their sideboard, without limitations.

A 1 for 1 rule is in place for all stages of the tournament but the final leg (=finals & for 3rd match). I should roll out the detailed rules (yay!) later today.

During the group phase, we cant sideboard the same way we can in the shootout phase right ? There will be no caster to tell us which hero our opponent did choose so we can sideboard before the match but without knowledge of what our opponent pick, am I right ?

Exactly. You will know base setup of opponent's decks tho, as I mean to publish them all before the Group Phase.

The fluid sideboarding only applies to games played out with the Spectator Mode. So I hope people will be around to play their games according to the schedule - it should be much more interesting that way :)

No. The caster will announce you your opponent's Hero choice (and him yours) before you are asked to use your sideboards and enter the match itself.

Need more clarification on how the group stage matches are going to be played.
Is there the deck lock?
What does that mean: "Sideboards will remain secret and private until such a time, when player decides to use them" ?

You will be asked to submit up to 3 decks with up to 15 cards sideboard each.
Basic deck lists will be published. Sideboards will remain a secret ... until you use a card from it - then obviously your opponent is going to see it :P
You will have to play only with one of the decks submitted + you can only replace cards in it with cards from the submitted sideboards (we'll be doing checks).

So, there are no needs to inform a caster or team member of our choice before each game for the group stage ?

Also, are we able to use our side-deck before starting the 1st game ? (hope there won't be any kind of cheats with the side-deck), that seems difficult to proove btw)

Thx !

No, the Hero selection rule only applies in games conducted with the Spectator mode (so basically everything after Group Stage, for the Main Event).

Yes, sideboarding is allowed at any time, in 1 for 1 (how many I put in, that many I have to remove) fashion. (Except for the final stage, where this restriction is lifted - refer to the rules.)

If you suspect your opponent is using cards beyond sideboard limitations (e.g. you see more than 15 cards not on the list), just report it while sending replays.
I'll also be checking the replays for following this rule and if anyone is caught using non-submitted cards, that person will be immediately D/Qd and banned from all upcoming tourneys I will happen to have my say in.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

The list of Main Event participants has now been finalized. It's this list (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/821354-Beat-the-Jack-Screenshot-submissions!?p=9467031&viewfull=1#post9467031) + those who will make it from Underdog Qualifiers Playoff.

All participants are now asked to submit their decklists (up to 3 decks with up to 15 cards of sideboard per deck) in writing to mmdoc.decks@gmail.com You have until this Saturday (15. 2.) to do so.
For internal purposes, the decks will need to be posted under the BeatTheJack mmdocking account, plus if you post them now, your opponents will have access to them prematurely. So there is no use posting them there and sending in links.

Some details on Groups:

A random groups of 5 will be drafted on Sunday's 16. 2. stream.
Everyone will play everyone in her or his Group in Best of 3, using the submitted decks and sideboards within the following week.
8 competitors with overall most points will advance.
Yes, winning your Group might not be enough to secure you spot among the best 8.
Tiebreakers: Victory Points. Loss Points. Victory Points vs Loss Points differential. 'Toughness of the Group' (i.e. What was the best Group player's score?). Placement in the Group (Group Winner will be favoured over player placing 2nd/3rd.)
For Victory/Loss Points rules please kindly refer to the Main Event rules which can be found in the initial post. (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/819073-Beat-the-Jack-The-Main-Event?p=9452624&viewfull=1#post9452624)

Every game will count. This will not be easy. Good luck, everyone.

Hi Uraxor, thanks for the organization. Just wanted to clarify -

during the Group Stage, we have 3 decks each with up to 15 cards sideboard. Are we free to rotate between decks during the same BO3? Then sideboarding seems a bit strange... you might bring in some stuff and then your opponent chooses a completely different hero/strategy.

I thought it was 15 cards as sideboard for our decks, and not 15 for EACH deck ?

So does it mean that we have 45 cards as sideboard ? (15 x 3)

You may use your sideboard for corresponding deck without limitations before each game.
Before each game:
1st) You will pick your Hero.
If more than 1 of your submitted decks uses the same Hero, you will be asked to specify which deck have you picked.
2nd) Your and your opponent's picks will be announced.
3rd) You will be allowed to use your sideboard.
4th) Game will commence, with Spectator Mode in place.

Hope this clears out all the questions.
Sorry for the slight change so late into the run.

Is preboarding for the first game in the Semi Finals, Finals and Third Place game allowed? It is specifically disallowed in the previous rounds, but I do not see that in the Semis, Finals, and Third Place games.

Uraxor

Jkkk: Yes, that was one of the main reasons why the change had to be done. And yes, 2nd/3rd game are a Hero of your choice + sideboard. I would hope it's clear from the rules -.-

Kinetic; only Group Stage has the restriction because all Brackets games will be played out with aid of the Spectator Mode and thus in presence of Caster who will oversee the Heros selection. Once you know your opponent's Hero the real strength of sideboards kicks in so no reason to hold them back :)

So far I have received 18 lists. Yours was among them, so you're fine.
However I do hope others will submit theirs ASAP as well.

I wont be home for the most of the next week, and i don't want to cause problems by applying and then not being able to play.

Send your Screenshots and replays in. Add a commentary if you want to.

Should we wait for the decks lists to be posted to play our games ?

If I understand it correctly, some people have not yet send their decklists ? Please dont post our decklists before they do... Also what are the numbers ? How many of the 50 players have sent their decklists ? Is it unreasonable to expect people not sending their decklists will not play at all ?

Decks will be posted later today. I'm still assembling last missing entries. We will have few players not submitting at all - those will get a D/Q, too.
I expect to have 45 players in the end, and (unfortunately) cut it down to 9 Groups.
I won't be posting any decks before I have all the data, don't worry. I also suggest to wait with your games until the decks are posted. I'm working on it hard right now.

As for the Advancement method - yes, unfortunately it is very cruel. But we need to go from ~50 to 8 in a week. Due to time limitations we cannot stretch the tournament, so it has to happen this way.
Also, you in fact have less than a week - that is why I am trying really hard to stick to Groups of 5 people. Just to allow you to get all your games in comfortably.
I am sorry about the cruelty, I trust we will see the best 8 emerging despite this fact. IF you win your Group convincingly (i.e. 7 or 8 Victories), I'm sure you will advance. We'll see how it works out. Maybe all the Groups will be hard and 5 Victories will be enough too. :)

(But yes, 'problem' noted and I'll think about it if I do this again.)

Sorry, one more question. About scoring:

Is this how it works?
Player A wins 2 matches 2-0 and loses 2 matches 0-2. He gets 4 points.
Player B wins 1 match 2-0 and loses 3 matches 1-2. He gets 5 points.
Player B has a better record than Player A??

Yeah B would get a better spot than A, it's not about how many bo3 get won, but how many points you earned !

Why don't you just disqualify them ? If they haven't submitted their decklist yet, well I guess they're not really interested in... They just had 6 (7 now) days to deal with it !
Now we have less time left to play our whole games, and those might be increased if the number of group decreases which means that we would have to face one or two more players than expected in less than a week... :/

The reason why I wanted all decks under 1 account is because it makes it much easier to look for. This is appreciated mainly by casters, who have them all in one place and don't have to be searching for them like crazy under the stream pressure.

How do you feel about that: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/837500-Change-in-the-Unique-rule!

Most players of the tournament are using decks based on loops and recycling of uniques (Dhamiria loop or mass rage, Sandalock, Alia mass rage, etc...).

If deployment is really effected next week, it won't affect group phase, but clearly RO8 will be really affected...

I am just speachless. So they implemented exact same thing the community was suggested the whole time. Great. So if enough ppl are complaining about 1 thing they will change it as the crowd demands. I strongly believe that wasn't needed and that balance was just fine, but well since the crowd is always right.

Too bad they ruined this tournament for most of ppl.

The community was suggesting the change simply because the change is correct. Recycling uniques was a broken, unintended mechanism that they already announced they will fix. Obviously the timing is a disaster and there should be a former notice like in every civilized game it is done: patch notes -> discussion & exchange of ideas -> date of the patch -> implementation of the patch.

If it was up to me i would not only implement this rule but also nerf the **** of some uniques: starting with Raya and Anael (from creatures).

PS.: Hakeem will be very strong now :)

Obviously, the group phase won't be hurt by those modifications, but the final top 8 will be !

It's maybe enough to make crash the shop if too much players want to buy it ;)

I think too a decklists change is needed now: some decks may be prepared to be played only after pool (the deck pick system changes), so be allowed to change decks after pool would disadventage counter deck players

Also agree on the decklist change. The top 8 might not be the same with or without the application of this rule, so if you want to crown the best in the new upcoming meta, it seems logic to me to change the meta during the pools.

Hey Uraxor, I mentioned the problem BtJ would get if the change was implemented during group phase in the german forum and he said that it had been mentioned and at least the CMs know about the problem. He also said that he'd inform about it again.
I hope that, if ithey not already plan to implement it after the group stage, they will wait now that they know about the problem.

Wish you all the luck that your and all others' effort put in this tournament won't be destroyed by the devs hasting into this change.

Thanks Revalon.

In another thread I claimed that top players can be recognized by their ability to adjust ... and in my sig I claim to belong into that group - which means, I should be able to adapt myself.

So yea I'll have to have Top8 submit new decks for the next week - those decks will get posted at King. That should also help players to find their way through the change as they'll see how is current top adjusting ... :)

+1, I was hoping to do some analysis of heros submitted vs heros actually chosen for matches :)

Quarterfinals (Tue, 19:00CET) (bo5s)
A: Fury x hectoring
D: Begpo x Sergus
B: Dragon x Zerg
C: mazsparrow x morais
[Seeds done by Group scores.]
This is order in which the games will be streamed, not brackets as such.

As for the replays, I've over a 100 more or less random result submissions, so organizing them into one file would be rather hard. That is why I decided to deliver them over the streams. At the moment we're at about 80% of played bo3s streamed and the number should grow still - that's already over 20hrs casted!

Well, the background picture is just one thing. It's the whole layout, the fonts, the color combination, the composition etc. Really nice!

since a lot of people asked me about that it will write why i've chosen Garant.

Big thanks to Uraxor and gratz to Hectoring

First of all huge thanks to Uraxor for organizing such a great event. I've got a lot of fun and i love serious, open, skill based tournaments.

And congratulations to Hectoring. I thought you were one of the main favorites for me (together with jkk) and i'm not surprised you've won.

Why Garant

One thing i knew for sure is that this tournament would be won by Kelthor and that Kelthor would be the most popular hero. I was really surprised that Cassandra was picked the most (but still Kelthor was played the most). Anyway before the tournament i tried to develop an "anti-meta hero" and i picked Hakeem control. After some testing the deck didn't meet my expectation (you can read more in the failed decks attempts thread (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/803220-Failed-Decks-attemps?p=9539790&viewfull=1#post9539790)). At this moment i could:
1). try to develop a new hero
2). Learn Kelthor and become part of duel of Cham... ergh.. Kelthors xD
3). Use a hero from my repertoire that i felt was the best vs Kelthor.

Learning a new hero takes a lot of time if you want to play it in a tournament - it's really not that easy to take a good hero and play it and then go to a tournament, You need several JPs. I simply didn't have the time needed to pick option 1 or 2. I stuck to the hero that i found the best vs Kelthors during my JP runs - Garant Gate.

My other options in the tournament were Sandalphon aggro and Cassandra. Yeah i could've played Sandal with 4 monsoons but it's still not that great vs Kelthor or Cassandra but she's extremely vulnerable to events (Taxes/Arbiters). If i knew i'd go 4:0, would i still pick Garant? - ofc not i think i'd choose Cassandra but Kelthor/Cassandra player will tell you that with sideboarding Kelthor has a clear edge vs Cassandra.

With my Garant (after sideboarding: http://tools.mmdocking.com/replays/show/2995) i put 4 Halls of Amnesia to stop his FF/SotL but this hasn't prevented him from going FF-> multiple Vulture Riders in 2 games and finishing me with SotL 2 or 3 times. As a Garant Gate player i cannot complain about draws and i think they were ok, maybe in the last game the draw was sub-par.

4-0 was kinda harsh but it's a card game so i don't mind. Again Hectoring is a great player and i don't feel bad for losing to him. I've won the last major, open tournament (Millennium Cup) and now i placed 2cd - i have nothing to complain - i'm quite content. Btw. in both i faced Kelthors - today they struck back :)

Yes, congratulations to ZergRusher and Hectoring both!

Losing 0:4 to Kelthor as Garant its not smt that I would expect, but I think that Hectoring did really great job in sideboarding. I have chosen the Kelthor for this tournament too, but I didnt even bring the set of QAs with me, I believe I had 3 Paos, 3 Shredders and I didnt put the remaining ones into sideboard. And that was huge mistake. I would say that in jackpot meta the Garant is favored against Kelthor, but with sideboard, the edge can easly move to Kelthors side (its the case always, Kelthor is just superb with sideboard, period). Hectorings call to cut Crushers and fireballs and go full QAs was just great, cause he transformed mid-range deck into rushdown deck just in purpose to beat heavier deck of Garant. In this matchup Garant has the greater creatures, but the Kelthor has more tools to deal dmg, and Hectoring just went that road.

I have great confidence in Kelthor and I suppose I did a mistake of NOT playing Kelthor the whole time. As I've lost the 2 matches I didnt play with him. I always prefer to counter the meta instead of going with the flow, but in case of Kelthor its just better to stick with Kelthor, cause all the tries to counter him with the high consistency... will fail.

Thx again for the tournament Uraxor! I hope I will have the chance of playing in the following competitive tournaments and maybe go higher than this time.
