So yesterday when I was playing the ocean was fine normal light blue and even lighter blue near an island.

But today the ocean became really dark blue with dark blue around the islands.

Is this a bug? Or is this the way the ocean looks like now?

Is anyone else having this issue?

UPDATE: It seems to have fixed itself when I plundered a ship. If it happens again I'll drop everything and get a screenshoot.

UPDATE#2: Happened again screenshoots below.

That water is normal. The light blue water isn't visible until you get close to land.

This should work now.

The water just seems darker than I remember.

That's because of the deepness of the seabed. Some island have a shallow brink, some are cut off like a cliff, hence the differente tone of brightness. I bet it also changes with the time during the day.

Or are you saying you saw the ocean first light blue then dark blue at the exact same location?

Yes I saw the ocean was first light blue and then dark blue at the same location. The difference was clearly noticable.

have you changed anything in the options menu ? windows update ? driver update ? last time i did a clean install of drivers my gamma was set low and made things darker.

What settings do you play at? To me it looks like reflections are missing, thus making the water look darker than it might otherwise ... But I'm not sure why it would switch on the fly like that.

These are my graphic options that my friend suggested because I don't have a very powerfull PC and I found some suggestions in the forums how to reduce lag and increase FPS and came up with this:

resolution: 1920x1080 60 Hz

enviroment quality: normal

texture quality: normal

anti-aliasing quality: off

shadow quality: normal

reflection quality: normal

motion blur: off

ambient occlusion: off

god rays: off

volumetric fog: off

vsnyc: off

PS: I have an AMD Radeon 6670 HD graphics card with the latest Beta drivers that came with an AMD gaming evolved app. There I optimized Assassin's creed 4 for balanced

Okay, so I used those settings on my PC and got the first image below, which is what I presume you're used to seeing. Using the same settings, I then turned off reflections in the graphics menu which lead to the second image. Which looks similar to your examples from before.

So, I would double check your in-game settings to make sure they're correct. I don't personally use an AMD card, but I looked into the app you mentioned, and it looks like it optimises your settings for your specific hardware, so I'd check to see what those settings are/what it may be changing them to. From what you wrote it sounds as if it's spontaneously switching, which is odd, but I'd be curious if anything would change if you toggled your reflections setting off and on again if/when that happens.

The only other suggestions I could give would be the rather generic uninstall/reinstall of your graphics drivers, or possibly rolling back to a previous non-beta driver and see if you still have the same issue, as far as I'm aware the most recent AMD drivers don't have ACIV specific components (I took a quick peek at the 13.11 beta drivers info, but don't quote me). At the end of the day, if it doesn't bother you that much, I wouldn't worry about it.

To the topic creator You mentioned how UBISOFT support is taking forever to get back to you, it's now obvious why you're not getting a response from UBISOFT support:

Please be advised that it very clearly states in the TOA, TOS, and EULA when you click I agree, that you're not going to use unauthorized third party apps, and doing so, makes you in violation of the TOS, TOA, and EULA. This makes your complaint to UBISOFT support invalid.

Just wanted to make you aware of that because they aren't going to get back to you if they know you're using an unauthorized 3rd party app. So you're only going to be able to get support from people such as the person helping you now, so it's pointless waiting for a response from UBISOFT so don't waste your time. I'm just trying to save you some aggravation is all.

Hope you get your problem fixed.

To the OP - I would check the settings as suggested above.

It does look like reflections are off, the AMD app could be overwriting any user settings - so that maybe the reason.

Support maybe taking a while, due to the holiday season, they are VERY busy, however they will most likely ask you to check the settings.

It's true the AMD app was overwriting my user settings so I turned it off and everything looks normal now.

It looks like it turned everything off for optimal performance so whatever the user does in the settings just doesn't work. I understand now there was nothing wrong with the game,it was the app.

Thank you everyone for helping me.

About that violation of the TOS,TOA and EULA is that illegal? If it is I will remove this app from my PC as soon as possible.

Official apps from companies such as AMD / Nvidia - are fine..

They may alter the game - interfering with the core files - so it's suggested you disable /remove them and check again, before contacting support - since they can cause issues, like you have experienced.

The main 3rd party apps that may cause major concerns / invalidate support - would be cheat engines / cracks.

I never said anything about official apps. I said unauthorized apps. And I know a lot of companies won't offer support for things even if it is authorized. Take for example Modding for Skyrim, Even though Bethesda released the CK (Creation Kit) they don't support modding, and if you call up with a problem, and you say you're using mods, they won't help you unless you remove all the mods.

So my point was maybe support isn't getting back to him for the reasons I stated is all.

Maybe amd got a little too zealous in "optimising" their drivers for ac3
