I would have chose The Last of Us, personally... Though I enjoyed both, TLOU was just phenomenal

I reckon AC IV deserves this award of being the best action adventure game, it's packed with adventure quite literally, all you do is explore, admire the scenic horizons, dig up treasure, kill, kill, free run/parkour, plunder ships and more killing. It's the best adventure game I've played in a long time, although I must say I've only played AC3 and up and nothing else in terms of adventure games.

The Last of Us is very very good. So is Tomb Raider, but I have to give The Last of Us a slight edge for better secondary characters.

I'm really happy for AC Black Flag --- as it's certainly bigger, and much more open worlds that TLOU and Tomb Raider. That's a tough call which I would pick, but I do enjoy Black Flag more personally.

Good job Ashraf and team --- you deserve it!

It deserves it. GTA5 is great and all, but across the board, everything in AC4 is fun. Not so with GTA5. Much of the content is amazing, but some of it is just stunningly bad (looking at you, 30-minute triathlons, letter scraps that are impossible to find without a guide, and others).

Plus, I don't really consider The Last of Us to be an Action/Adventure game, so there's that.

Wow! Those were all such tough choices too! Gahh! But I'm really happy AC4 got it! :)

After the bashing the AC franchise has taken over the past few years it could really use such an award! Congrats You guys!

:| seriously.. and I do mean seriously if you own a ps3 you must play this game. It is worth of EVERY AWARD OUT THERE. INCLUDING THINGS IT DIDN'T DO. Like best sports game, best first person shooter, best driving game. Lol! No but really, it's a must play for sure! If you don't own one buy one borrow one steal one, whatever you need to do! You won't regret it! XD

I don't think there was any adventure in TLoU and GTA V, just action.. if you get my drift. TR and AC4 on the other hand were filled with action and adventure. But ultimately AC4 was a much bigger and more fun game out of these two. So well deserved win. Ashraf, Darby and Co. Ye should be proud!

Say what Pirate! There was plenty of adventure in TLoU! Lol, you getting from state to state across the country was the adventure! Action pshht! Clicker killing and hunter hunting was more than enough action!

For once, I feel AC has deserved the award.

TLOU and TR are fantastic games no doubt...but 'Action-Adventure'?

They don't have the wondrous sense of enjoyment and exploration that AC4 has...which just screams adventure.

Well I felt that sense of exploration in TR too, being lost on an uncharted island filled with centuries old wrecks.. but yeah, it was ultimately hampered by not being open world like AC4, and ofcourse AC4's beautiful, almost breathtaking world kicks every other videogame setting out of the park.

Poptartz, that probably has to deal with our own personal perceptions of what an adventure is.. lol Being shipwrecked on an ancient island, or sailing across open oceans is my idea of adventure. Fighting through zombie apocalypse or gunning down ******s, isn't my idea of a grand adventure. That said, I'm only arguing about the categorization. Don't think I don't consider TLoU a great, great game otherwise. Its just that its subject matter doesnt come to my mind when I hear the word: Adventure!

Exactly

TR and TLOU were focused more on the stealth-survival aspect IMO...whereas AC4 offered a far greater degree of freedom and focus on doing what you want to be actually called an 'Adventure' game.

You're the Captain of a Ship.....all Islands are open to you....you have so much to do.

For me, I had more fun playing ACIV than playing GTA V. ACIV was complete, harpooning, crafting system, hunting system, Legendary Ships, Assassination Contracts, Plantations, Mayan Armor, Templar Armor, chestes, Animus Fragments, Computers to hack in Abstergo, etc. ACIV deserved it.

Blasphemy!!

Should have gone to Ryse!

Seriously though, well done to the AC4 team.

I don't know that I would necessarily classify TLoU as action-adventure. It just seems too serious for the genre. If video games had a "drama" category, it might fit better there. Unfortunately they don't, yet.

If TLoU is being classified as action-adventure though, it definitely should have won. GOTY for me.

TLoU is not even a action-Adventure game....ACIV, GTA V, Bioshock...you NEED to use guns and there is a huge focus in gun combat. TLoU the focus is in Stealth and you can finish the game without even firing a gun.

I'm pretty sure you can finish AC4 without guns as well.

Less than 20 days to make it to the "Best action adventure game"? Don't you think that's a bit presumptuous? For ME there's no doubt, but I have friends who haven't played AC4 yet, and THEY'RE all still raving about GTA 5 (which I HAVEN'T played)
All in all, ANY game is a matter of personal preference. And since I enjoy Open World RPG's and Action/Adventure games (Fallout franchise, Mass Effect trilogy, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed sextuplet [AC, AC2, ACB, ACR, AC3, AC4BF], etc), most OTHER styles of games wouldn't interest me as much.

What do you mean less than 20 days. It's been more than a month.
