View Full Version : Most satifying kill/moment

Just seen this topic on the LOMAC forums and thought I'd put it here as well.

What is your most satisfying kill or moment in IL2

For me it was getting home safetly with very bad damage in a bf110. No elevators No rudder fuel leak (ran out 1 second after landing) and one engine.

Mmmhhh...good one.
My most satisfying moment was playing online. I was flying a P38 and got in contact with a 190D9. We dogfighted for almost 35 minutes! With all possible combat tactics, managing ammo as long as possible. Really stressing at moments! he finally shot me down by diving fast on me at my 6, so I didn´t see him come, but despite this, it was my most memorable dogfight and I enjoyed it waaay too much.

one of my best one kill was in greatergreen, flying the new tb3, coming back to base from just droping bombs on our target, one of my wingman was shootdown over target, and tthe one left and i were flying very tight formation to give us fire protection to each other, there was a b109 making run into my winman, suddently hhe dive, got six low at high speed, pulled up towards me now, shooting at me, i took i good shot, and for the surprise of me his wing flew off, so his plane wiht one wing only passes realy close to my tailgun, in witch i was at shooting, the plane flys over me and falls into a dive this time very close to my nose gun lol, the funny part, and good part of this kills, is that when the plan was above me i saw his copit trown away, so i knew he was about to bail out, so i change quickly to the nose gun, and as his plane is falling wiht one wing only, i start to shoot at it, and suddently i see his pilot bail from plane, and i fill his boddy wiht bullets, me and my wingman saw his liveless boddy fall all the way to the gound from 2k, we were luaghting so hard on team speak, it was a very memorable moment

Dropping 4x 1000lb bombs from a TB3 under heavy Flak in an online war mission, and seeing the BOOM! as they hit their target!

the mission was at night and the whole are lit up real nice!

Cheers, Tone.

I was flying the K4 against a D9. Although he had alt advantage in the beginning I was able to turn the tables. Realizing this he decided to dive to try and out run me. I followed from about 1000m above, both of us diving straight down. Thinking gravity would have no affect on my ammo I lined him up in my crosshairs and fired 1 108 round. What seemd like a few seconds later he exploded and the said "**** has been blown out of the sky by Fritz".

I could hear the guyz on TS trying to figure out what happened. Luckily we were recording that day. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Maybe I would call this one my "most memorable kill".

Most satisfying kill: flying at 4500m over pacific online map, seeing another Mustang being attacked 1000m above, climbing to the rescue in a wide turn, shooing away the Ki.84 with a quick burst then following it to the deck in a break-neck power dive, loosing it for a little then catching up with it and despatching it with a long burst of my .50's while flying at 700kph just over the deep blue waves.

Might not sound too exciting but all happened so perfectly it could have been a dream, and Ki.84's are my pet hate, even if I will fly them myself if I have to fly axis and the only other choice is a Zero.

Most satisfy moment any perfect landing in spite of damaged engine or controls or without any fuel left, especially at sunset...

I just love the light and the weather in FB http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Shooting down a certain "109 Ace" and his vaunted wingman singlehandedly in a fair fight with no help and flying back to base to land a slightly crippled bird.

On the other hand, one of my most memorable moments wasn't an actual kill, but rather a turn of events that found me deep in enemy territory and watching as my wingman lost a wing and me suddenly surrounded by no fewer than 6 enemy AC all gunning for my little spit mkV. One by one they made their passes...in FW's and 109s. I was pulling serious G's and watch over my shoulder more than I watched through the front glass. Occassionally I had a chance for a snap shot at high deflection and ended up wouding three of them badly enough they had to break away from the fight. The whole time I was creeping closer to the front lines where I intended to bail if necessary. As I crossed the front lines and roughly a 7-10 minute running battle, 2 P-51's came screaming in at high speed and broke up the luftwaffe party that had camped on my 6.

For a brief moment, I thought I knew how it might have felt. I was sweat-soaked. My heartrate was elevated and I couldn't believe my good fortune.

That was cool.

06-14-2004, 06:46 AM
For me in my p38L I was crusing around 2.5km on my side of the front lines looking for a solo bandit or looking to clear a teammates six.At about 1km below me i see two dots going at it, i drop down to 1.5km and see it was a 109 and a p51. I let them go at each other for about 5 minutes until i see the 109 got an advantage on the 51. So i start my decent down. By this time the p51 is low and slow with the 109 just finnishing an immelman. I keep my nose steady and wait till he starts his drop down. As he is coming down i open fire with the 4 50 cals and instantly I see the nice thick black smoke pouring from his engine and him trying to run for it, but losing height and speed quick. I start my climb back up to watch him crash into the water and get my only 4th kill with a p38. Sadly the p51 by now has got his speed back and finishes the 109 for the kill. I did not bother with calling him a KSer cuz i know the thick black smoke meant the 109 was dead anyhow. That is my most memorable kill.

This just happened in WarClouds, this morning.

I was in my baby, the He111, and dropping Allied planes like flies, because they all like to fly slow and saddle up on my six. I hit the level stabilizer, and start mowing them down myself.

This one Spitfire burst into flames, pulled hard up, and bailed right over the top of me. As I flew away, I nailed hit parachute with my top gunner. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Darn shame I didn't record that, either.

Now that I think of it another memorable occasion was when on the Crimean map online I was flying a Yak-3 and two well coordinated Bf.109's flying in formation caught me almost by surprise 500m below them. Probably they expected me to flee and must have been very surprised when I climbed towards them and using combat flaps, good deflection shooting and a little luck I managed to shoot a wing off the wingman's craft while stil climbing. The leader manoeuvered after me but I dived to the deck and he - having lost a lot of speed turning after me - stalled and crashed on the shore. The whole combat lasted no more than 10 seconds and I got both kills credited.

But perhaps the best fights are between biplanes, because I like all that manoeuvering at low height and low speeds wit the engine cutting off in negative G's if you are not careful, especially nice on a Finnish map full of lakes and rivers and forests, and the low lethality of the .303 or 7.62 guns allow for long dogfights.

PS: I agree with Frantzen about shooting chutes.

Happened in my own server a while ago. I was with my wingie at 3k scanning for targets in our A9's. We spotted 2 spits and turned till we had the sun in our back and jus dropped down on them in formation. We reached a speed of 800Km/h before comming in shooting range. We both shot at the same moment and ripped both spits to pieces... they never saw us comming.

My most rewarding kill was the first one ever.

It was back in the origional IL-2 Sturmovik 1.0 in the German fighter campaign.

I don't remember the type for sure, but I think it was an early yak against my Bf-109F-2. After about 20 minutes of dogfighting I got one in my sights. Pulled some lead, cought him in a gentle left turn, emptied the magazines on him, and watched him go down smokeing! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

FINALLY I can manage to handle the 109's

Actually it was yesterday, I was on some P-51's tail, and I was like "just a little more" and I WOULD have shot him down

If I can manage to shoot down an enemy plane in german planes this is most satisfying to me, since I'm used to the VVS planes and do not get "thrilled" if I've shot down an enemy plane with a VVS fighter

Anyway, when when I was one this P-51's tail, some nobhead at my team comes from my three o'clock at full speed, SOO eager to "steal" my Mustang, I heard a few shots but "BOOM" he missed the Mustang, and crashed into me, and I had to trake the blame... -500 points to me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

The day I flew against an old nemiss from CFS that whooped my butt everytime when playing it, with the full hard settings. I gave him a payback, over and over and over and over and still today if evenly matched in a pit only room no matter the settings, I pay him again and again. I knew he was an arcade flyer and to impatient. hehehe

The coolest kill I ever had was driving an La-7. It was also an example of just how cool this game is. Got into a fight with a Fw-190 at dusk. He was using energy tactics on me at a time before I even knew what they were. :\ We were about 1000-2000m above a turning fight below us, so there were tracers, flashes, and strings of light in a deadly dance with fire in the half light. He was going vertical on me and I waited a moment before I followed. As I came up from below, he was inverted and near motionless against the stars that were just winking into the dark blue sky. I gave a good burst, right into the center of his ship. I was near out of energy, and as he started to fall, we exchanged places, with him starting to descend and pick up speed, and me, inverted, looking down at him. It seemed as if he was just going to shrug off my hits and continue the fight. He gained speed and began to pull out of his dive. I was going to have to try to finish him off. The G forces built up on his ship..... and he disentegrated below me. Wow. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif This game/sim is awesome!

Good hunting,

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

About a month ago OL - spawned on my airfield in a 38L. Immediately noted a Zero, P-51 and a Spit low over the airfield, engaging friendlies.

Somehow got airborne without any one bothering me. At 500m, opened up the throttle. Immediately, the Zero pilot noticed me, turned and dove down for a high speed head-on. I swung my nose up, applied trim, and fired a .90m. Blew his nose off.

Now at about 600 m I turned for the Stang and caught it as he was just starting a climb. Quick squirt from the fifties and his engine caught fire.

Dove then climbed through a half loop, rolled and dove on the Spit that was after the friendly. Came in beautifully, in plane with my nose pointed right at the engine from above. Closed to about 200 yards and opened up with the cannon. The plane disintegrated.

hmm, good ones..
recently flew on Warclouds over Balaton, Fw 190 A-6 in 6000m scanning the foggy air beneath and around me. Saw three silver dots against the dark water.. selected the middle one, dived and fired at >700kph, then zoomed away. The number 1 made a haste split S after blue tracers passed nearby. The hit Pony slowed dow, rolled over and his engine went dead. Number three - P-51C in British camo - went nose up and sprayed me, but I was 1km above. Made turn, returned down and caught No3 on the top of the loop. Covered the stationary target with bright flashes and, ouch, rammed with a wingtip into him.. did not managed to bail out.

i was almost vertical in my p39 coming up under the stuka with the cannons on the wings, I guesstemated my lead, fired a single cannon round that hit the plane dead center, started it on fire and 2 seconds later the plane started disintegrating.

In 9 months ive only shot down about 10 planes so all my kills are easy to remember.

Well, mine was during a VEF flight. I was lost for a while and arrived late at the party. Never the less, I wanted to engage an enemy AC, so I went searching. I came to a P-39 fliyng leveled and anaware so I closed up, waited, waited.. and Bam, it starts turning for his life...
Yep his buddies had warned him and were on my six.

Im an average pilot at best, lousy shot and I´m no hero so I turn for home.
The three of them on my six I´m getting shot from every angle, so dive and go for the deck, at 0/50 Mts runnign like mad for home, I beggin to recive hits and get my wing filled with holes...

Desperate I beggin a sissorce manouver, and while watching back I see my pursuers go into sissorces to opposite sides and crash into each other...

I laugth all the way to my base hehehe...
I didn´t get the kill´s recorded in the VEF stats of course, But it is still my most memorable manover Kill yet http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

i laughed myself silly in a jug last night.
i was at low alt on desert map, flat out to help a teammate i think, anyways i end up with 2 fw190s chacing me, p47 soaking up there ammo and then they crash together http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif. so im racing for home and another 190 i think parks itself on my 6, firing away. he gets real close and removes my rudder... with his wing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif down he goes. poor jug still flying, i start singging on comms about my flying tank http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
ive put flaps down to help me gain alt to bail as this bird lost aliron and is a right mess, so i bail at 550metres, left jug doing a gentle turn, a 109 comes screaming in firing at jug, and removes its left wing with his wing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.
id got 4 kills without using my guns todo it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

oh and protecting team mates is satisfing too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i had a despriate time trying to tie up and kill enemy fighters for a teammate who was in a tb3.
oh and 3-4 kills with yak9k using 1 round per kill (3-4 consecutive rounds hitting diff planes, didnt use guns apart from those 3-4 shots http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

My greatest moment was when I was flying along in Warclouds 44+ on a red defense map in a spit IX. I was flying into a furball when all of a sudden I saw the sillouette of a german plane in my rear view mirror. He was so close that I could almost see the pilot in his cockpit. I rolled out and dove for the deck, but suddenly there was a great explosion and the trailing plane flew apart in a big fireball. I looked to the console, and lo and behold, GoodKnight has been killed by flak! I defeated the legend! Well, the kindly flak gunners did, but still http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I would have to say my favorite moment was on WC44 a few weeks ago.

I was returning to base on the desert map. My engine was running hot, and I was out of ammo (Cannon) so I dove into the hills to conceal myself. Little did I know that a P-51 was circling high above and must have caught sight of me. He came diving in. Without the ability to go offensive, I decided to turn straight into a high hill. I chopped my throttle and waited for the attack. As it happened, I was getting close to the hill as I heard the scream of the P-51's Merlin. I dropped takeoff flaps, and pulled straight up. I guess the P-51's speed was so great that when he went to follow, he must have blacked out as he looped around and went right into the side of the hill.

As I turned again to make a solution for a nearby Axis base, I saw another P-51 coming in strong. His weapons started firing at me, but again I was slow enough to out-turn him for a short period of time. That pilot lost control and went into the ground like a lawn dart.

Finally I was just about to clear the hills and fly into flat open desert. In came a lower flying P-51. By now my engine was tortured and started to scream at me. I snap rolled over and pointed my nose at the ground. flying inverted in respect to the P-51 I dropped combat flaps and pulled back on the stick, hoping to get under the Pony. To my amazement, he attempted to follow my lead, but must not have judged his speed well enough. As I pulled out of my loop, I know my tail touched the ground. (I have to admit that I wasnt sure if I was going to make the loop, and my hands were sweating!) The P-51 was a hair faster and he kissed the sand with the bottom of his plane. His wing caught the ground and he went flipping end over end as he quickly came apart at the seams.

I limped back home, with no kills mind you, but with satisfaction that I had judged each encounter perfectly.

Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good!

(I was giving a play by play on teamspeak and the folks I was flying with were laughing with each Pony crash)

On a side note, I had to do a dead stick landing, and when I hit refly some guy got credit for a kill on my plane! (That's the one thing that is screwy about the scoring system)

"So when Diogenes perceived that he was greatly excited and quite keyed up in mind with expectancy, he toyed with him and pulled him about in the hope that somehow he might be moved from his pride and thirst for glory and be able to sober up a little. my first online kill was memorable. I'm sure most of you guyz are familiar with the movie "Requiem" made by JG/54 XPC and JG/54 Serpentblade.

Anyway I was flying the E4 and I saw a 190 chasing my teammate. Our alt was less than 50m. There was no way I could catch the 190 and my mate so when the 190 banked right in persuit I gave a quick blast from about 750m hoping to make the 190 driver get nervous and breakoff.

To my amazement, his left wing fell off and he was a gonner. My only regret was the message saying "Fritz neatly saws off XPC's wing". I was punished the rest of the night http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif, but it was worth it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif. Flying on Greater Green when I took down a HE111 and all the crew bailed. Whilst they were all floating down in a straight line I did a wide turn and nailed every single one of them.....most satisfying. Also I shot down a certain forum loudmouth in his P51 which made me very happy as i was in a rusty old FW. How i laughed as his wing came of as i hit him as he tried to out-dive me.

I flew a ju87 online. I was flying to
an enemy-airfield. Halfway there was
an enemy to intercept me. He tried
so much but didn`t shot me. Just above the
airfield i saw behind me that the enemy plane was landing. I dropped a bomb right in his cockpit. Kaboom and the enemiesplane was turned into dust.

...and some time ago i was also online.
I thought i was flying a yak3. I saw
a he111. The player told me that he certainly
would shoot me down because he was an ace.
I said, we `ll see. 10 secs later he was
turning right to the earth.

Oh can you inmagine what a joy i had?

Joyful! When I strafe a base with the nose MG in the HE111 or when I shoot the bailed out pilot(s) taking turns in shooting my bomber. There's no better feeling than to see their faces screaming traveling (fast) down to mother Earth. That should teach them to have more respect for a machine not able to dogfight. Hehehehe
