I have to admit ignorance of the FAA's activities in the PTO, did they operate stringbags in the PTO? What ops were they used in, and how did they do?

Early on, they might even face carrier based A5Ms (F4F's did at the Coral Sea).

The FAA used them, I believe, in Ceylon and around Singapore.

Also used was the ugly Vickers Vildebeest. That was a widely used plane very early on.

The 'Stringbag' was only effective when not facing any fighter opposition, a defect shared with the Devastator. It's slow speed made coordination with other strike types and escorts difficult if not totally impractical.

Radar equipped later in the war they ahd some usefull scouting and anti-sub employment in the Atlantic.

When the British Pacific fleet returned in force to the pacifc after D-Day all RN carriers there had avengers rather than Swordfishes.
