View Full Version : Where the hell is Sam Bellamy? (spoilers)

Again... where the hell is Sam Bellamy? Is Edward Kenway supposed to fill in for him, or did they just not want a similar character running around doing very similar activities? Or are we supposed to accept MARY READE of all people took his place in this reality?

I didn't know the history so I wiki'd him right now and instantly found the answer. He dies in 1717.

This. They probably didn't want to screw with introducing him as a character when you would have only seen him for like one scene before it skipped ahead to 1717, when he would have been dead.

And Blackbeard dies in 1718, yet he gets plenty of scenes, despite not being half as successful or socially aware or as relevant to Nassau or just plain cool as Sam Bellamy was. Also, how is dying an issue in an AC game?

Good question. I figured he would make an appearance due to Ubi posting his quote about the empires robbing the poor under the cover of the law. His whole Robin Hood of pirates reputation could have helped develop Edward. He could have been very beneficial to the story.

Edward Kenway is Sam Bellamy.

Get it?

Sam Bellamy met Maria Hallet in a bar, they had sex and wanted to marry. She was the daughter of wealthy farmers and he just a sailor so her parents rejected the idea. Sam was furious and vowed to make his fortune and claim his bride.

Sound familiar? The probably refered to Sam in that one sentence of dialogue to hide the fact that the life story of E. Kenway was very similar to the actual Sam Bellamy. Only thing is Sam was 4 years older and died in the Carribbean.

Download The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard if you're interested. It's a great read.

If I recall correctly, they do mention Sam Bellamy in at least one scene. Something about him sailing up north to New England.

Or maybe I'm mixing up Black Flag with The Republic of Pirates (which I was reading at the time).

Edward is Bellamy if you think about it.

Both escaped the Golden Age of Piracy...

Both became Rich...

I like that. :)

And they both died during their prime.

Did Bellamy have a son beforehand?

Apparently he had a child...

But it died. :(
