View Full Version : Anno 1602 Graphic problem

This may be a long shot but here goes nothing:
I recently tried to install anno 1602 on my 64-bit Windows 7. However when I launch the game, it looks like this http://imgur.com/JfkTwMd
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I got a Radeon HD 5800 series and all my drivers are up to date.

Hi Phalu - You may want to contact Support for help with this, if you don't find the answer you are looking for here in the forums.

Thank you for your reply! When asking a new question on the support website I can't choose Anno 1602 as 'product'. I've chosen Anno 1404 and hope they will respond to it anyway.

They will :)

They referred me to another company since Ubisoft does no longer support Anno 1602. That kinda sucks.. Some help would have been nice

Create file Anno1602.bat in the installation directory (next to 1602.exe) with following content:

@echo off
taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
start explorer.exe

Now you can start Anno 1602 by double-clicking the BAT file without any graphical problems.

It seems that somehow the Explorer process causes the graphic bugs. The BAT file will kill the process before starting the game (Desktop icons and taskbar at the bottom screen will disappear). When you finish playing the game, the Explorer process will be restartet. Not the best solution, but at least the game is playable with this trick.

There is a much easier solution.

If you don't know where the game files are located, go to the Anno 1602 game page in your UPlay Launcher library and click "Properties" and then "Open Folder"
Go to the "Eng" folder and there are your game files.

1. Right click on the 1602.exe and select properties.
2. Go to the compatibility tab.
3. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
4. Select Windows XP

Done, press the Ok button.

The UPlay launcher can't for some reasons start the game in XP Compatible mode so you have to start it by simply click on the 1602.exe file. You can make a shortcut to it and place it on your desktop.

I'm surprised that Ubisoft support wasn't able to to give you this hint, even if they don't have the support anymore (because it's so easy). I wonder how much of "support" Ubisoft are capable of giving if they can't even suggest this. Do they even know how Windows works?!?

Thank you for posting your recommendation to use compatibility mode, Gwinda. I hope this will help any players who may still be encountering this issue or a similar one.

Please try to avoid resurrecting long-dead threads in the future where possible (as this thread is seven years old).
