I know I can't possibly be the first one , but is title "slide" in the new & wonderful BoB campaign a sort of hts off to the very good novel " Piece of Cake"? Just seemed too coincidental....By the by will we ever see a BoB by these talanted gyys except from the German side???

Actually you are the first! When you say title "slide" do you mean the campaign intro track or the RAF background?
Anyway whichever you mean, it was a pure coincidence as I don't know the novel you refer to.
What is it about the title "slide" that reminded you of the novel?

As for future campaigns...who knows??
I've got a few projects on the go at the moment (none of which are 'BoB' related but are definately FB related) and knowing Poymando he's bound to be keeping busy too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I acn't believe I'm the only one! About 15 years ago a great BoB novel entitled Piece of Cake, written by Dereck Robinson, was published. It became a very good 6 part TV film shown first on British then on American PBS stations-6hours long about the trevails on an "average " Brit Hurricane Squadron ( Spits in the TV version...the Hornet squadron...Anyway one of the pilots , who lost his wife during the Battle of France( too long to go into now...) Goes a bit " round the bend " & insists on flying into the attack UPSIDE DOWN...just as you show in introductory image ( slide , whatever,,,)I'd say its quite a coincidence ,,Huh? Are you sure you didn't see this somewhere?
Having said all this thanks for the magnificent addition to the game & as I said any chance for a German version???

Ah!
So you mean the same pic as in my sig?
Did you notice it was the same image?

Actually it just happened when I was recording a track in readiness for the camapign intro (which I didn't use anyway) and I took a screen-grab.
It looks cool doesn't it?
I honestly haven't seen or come across the novel/ TV series!
Sounds like I'd enjoy it though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As for German version...I doubt it with the coming of the Spitfire at al in the 'payware' addon - but you never know???

Piece of Cake is simply the best novel written about a Hurricane Squadron during the Battle of France & Battle of Britain.Do yourself a favour Simon and look it up at http://www.amazon.co.uk the author is Derek Robinson, be warned though it's very dark.
My online nickname Moggy is taken from a character in the book.

Yes - thats it on your sig ( never noticed!0 & yes you would enjoy both book &series - be warned highly entertaining , & pilots are not of the stearn stuff of the film Battle of Britain but far more human... Air to air not bad , but borrows from BoB movie quite a bit..Try to find it worth the search!

I hadn't read the novel, but heard about Piece of Cake here on the forums about a year ago. I bought the DVD set of the TV miniseries. It is EXCELLENT!! I resold the dvd to someone else though.

Here's a little teaser from the movie...

I read Piece Of Cake and I have to say that my enjoyment was somewhat tempered by the fact that I had read Fighter Boys: Saving Britain 1940 by Patrick Bishop (an excellent book and a must for anyone interested in the BoB). After that book, Piece of Cake almost seemed a bit cartoonish with all the tactical changes that happened in the fighter squadrons all happening at once in the one squadron and all at the urgings of an American (CH3). But what I thougt was excellent about the book was it's portrayal of battle in the air. It showed how suddenly and brutally death could come in a fighter. How some of these guys were killed before they even knew what had happened. Very grimm and realistic in that regard. I'd recommend both books but read Fighter Boys first. You won't regret it.

I've also read Patrick Bishop's book Fighter Boys and it's another great book but it hasn't changed my opinion on Piece of Cake.I've read all of Derek Robinson's WWI and WWII books, he does have a very unique style that can put people off.Piece of Cake certainly upset a lot of people (especially veterans) when it was published in the early 80's but I adore the darkness of the book.
