Just talked to my friend at Ensemble Studios. Asked him about upgrading memory or vid card to improve performance. He said that from my current 512 to 1g I would see a small gain in performance. But, going from my current gf 128 to an ATI 9800 256 card would net a big difference in performance and quality.

True, but both ATI and NVidia have new cards out that belong to a new generation of graphics cards. Preliminary benchmarking on several sites indicate a two-fold increase in performance under certain situations (high res, 4XAA, 8XAF). I get my hardware news at www.anandtech.com (http://www.anandtech.com) I suggest you read up on the ATI X800XT PE and the Nvidia GeForce5800 Ultra before you come to a conclusion. A gig of RAM will make your play on large maps such as Leningrad smoother. Overall, I'd suggest you upgrade your graphics card first.

I'd use the cash on a mobo/processor combo. Wait till MSI or Saphire start pumping out the new cards to buy a vid card. Ti4200 runs FB pretty well. Meanwhile overclock everything like you dont care, those Geforce4 are tough.

I'd go for more RAM first, upping that to 1Gig will noticably improve gameplay (you do need WinXP for this). My system's about the same as yours ti4200 died though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

upping ram would do bugger all only improve on large maps.

A radeon 9800pro would give you much more of an improvement over another 512 stick of ram

Ive got pretty much the same system, (P4, 1.8, 512 Ram) except I am coming from onboard graphics http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Can't afford one of the new X800 cards I don't think, budget is 150 MAX. Have found a nice deal on a Radeon 9800 pro 128 for 130 all in, so unless prices drop drastically in the next month or the 9800XT comes down in price, that is what I will be going with.
