View Full Version : online play getting slower.....

Ever since AEP, I find that timeout, studder, and lags are getting worse with each successive patch. After a couple months off, I loaded the 2.01 patch to AEP. Went on hyperlobby and the few servers I could log on to, I found play slow, laggy and it took forever to load... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Anyone know what gives???

Unfortunatelly in dogfight servers we have lot of stutters/freezes becuse someone get new plane. It is very frustrating and i hope Oleg make sth with these in future patch. Before AEP was much better in dogfight servers. In coop mision these problem not exist.

I believe the answer to this is to put a static airplane on the ground for each type of aircraft you have in the mission. This preloads all the models the mission will have.

Don't quote me on this though as I'm not sure.

yes these help but not cancel problem at all - in most popular serwer like Warclouds still are stutters

i agree with espo on this. if plane a shoots down plane b, when plane b hits respawn, the game will pause for as long as 2 seconds. if ur on final to land, that could cause a crash and wipe out what could have been a very nice score. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

have no clue why maps take almost double the load time just to join a server. it didnt used to be like that. maybe its because its all those planes that's now flyable. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Exactly sandman. I actually crashed yesterday because someone respawned when I was chasing someone on the deck. When it finally unlocked I hit the ground!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Blame hosts for that mate... there are many tricks that help to have a nice server...but for some reason people ignoring them, because it`s alot of work http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

There seems to be something though. I went onto GG for the first time in probably 6 months the other night.

First sortie: I am chasing a Hurricane, scoring hits that seemingly do nothing as he warps around. My game freezes when I'm in a dive, and I unfreeze a corpse, splattered all over the ground.

Second sortie: Again chasing a slide-show Hurricane scoring hits. He's left, he's right, he's right in front of me! I crash into him and get the Hunde has been shot down by "XXXX" message.

Fourth sortie: Out in my FW-190A-5, merge with a friendly 109, huge pause/freeze. A minute later, more freezes. The red side destroys like 5 tanks and the map is over in 5 minutes (I suspect a scripting error).

Final sortie: Chasing Yak-3 in Ta-152H after map change. Again it is warp city, I feel like I am playing "whack a mole" with my cannon as he appears and disappears. I disconnect in disgust.

Now GG has always been one of, if not the best servers around. Usually very smooth. I am having more and more nights like the one mentioned above and it is a shame. I don't know if it has anything to do with coding changes through patching over time, or if there is a problem on my end. I did a complete re-install about a week ago because I am so frustrated with laggy play and other oddities (no credit for obvious kills, no getting hit sound or indication, phantom rounds that hit and do nothing) these days. I have always had a very good internet connection but maybe it is on my end that it has changed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

I've had better luck on Warclouds and Birds of Prey but even these are not as smooth as I remember. I just hope it improves one way or the other.

Sorry for the vent, rant.

I followed the guide and it does work, especially the having limited plane sets, with static versions on the map and skin download off and good lag/packet loss settings...its not that much work, making good, interesting and original maps is the hard bit. The toughest bit is making maps that just a few people can play but are scalable to 20+.

how do u check ur map size. this 'guide' doesnt mention where to look to do this. are u sayin that all the planes that u have flyable have 1 of said planes as static on the runways or what. the biggest lag guns are the green shooting 'zsu tanks', and the 1's that spray enough shells to mimic downtown hanoi. jets spraying rocket fire most definately causes a slide show...even their 30mm guns at the ground do this. ur not going to kill a ship spraying the water with 262 rocket/cannon fire, but u will cause the game to become a slide show.

I have a high end system, and a 3.0/512 connection that's solid as a rock in all games except FB. I've tweaked until i'm blue in the face, and I still get pauses/stutters.

It's no fun flying that way, and it's the reason I gave up flying online. Someone needs to teach someone how to write code.

Im still on 56k and I only connect at 31k. I would upgrade but where I live theres only sattilite and thats a 500ping in tranfer plus time to ip so your looking at 700 some ping . I get a 250-550 ping but i have limted bandwith so I stay in server with less then 10 ppl and with restricked plane sets witch seem to help. IL-2 is on of the few games I can play online with out lag interfering with my game . the only time I get bad studders is when ppl change planes or leave/join the server.Try playing a fps on 31k connect and you will appretiate il-2s lag code.

Buzz, after making many a map for the Fallen Angels' Server I believe that almost all the problems you are seeing are caused by:

1) Not enough RAM on the host server for the number of players being hosted.
2) Too many planes in the designated planeset for each home base.
3) Not placing static models on the map for all planes in the planeset.

I think CrazyIvan has it right. Recommend you shop around for servers that 'have it right'.

All the best, Don
