What is The Jackpot Challenge?

Competing in the Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/) tournament and want to experiment, but don't want it to count against your score? We're now hosting weekly tournaments for some competitive gaming outside of Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/) to experiment, have fun, and WIN! The Jackpot Challenge is a weekly event that encourages players to experiment with new decks/heroes and discuss the possible strategies they create.

Your goal is to place as high as you can in the Jackpot tournament using your own version of our Deck of the Week. We highly encourage you to stream your experimenting using our new integrated Twitch.TV SDK feature! Additionally, share your results here in this thread. Did you find an awesome combination of cards that helped you place in Tier 1? Let us know!

Since this challenge is played entirely in the Jackpot tournament, this will not hurt your chances of qualifying for Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/)! Are there prizes to be won?

Of course! On top of the prizes already included in playing Jackpot, we will be awarding seals to players that participate here in the Jackpot Challenge. To become eligible for extra rewards, share your experiences with the Jackpot Challenge Deck of the Week here in this thread. Here are a few examples of ways to qualify:

• Make an awesome play during one of your games? Explain how you were able to pull it off. The more detail the better!
• Stream your Jackpot Challenge matches and post the replays here for us to see.
• Theorycraft the Deck of the Week, come up with a sound strategy for victory, and share your results with us.

Our three favorite submissions based on decks, streams, or discussion will all earn prizes. The first place prize will be 200 Seals while the second and third place winners will both earn 100 seals each.


Will participating in The Jackpot Challenge hurt my chances of qualifying for Road to Paris?

Not at all! If anything, this could even help you out. You will be gaining practice and game knowledge by experimenting with new decks and card mixtures. Remember that jackpot tournament finishes are not counted towards your Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/) online qualifier, so grind out some jackpot games and share your triumphs with the community!

Forgive the imperfections, can't playtest it.

In particular, I'm not sure about the optimum number of Gold Piles and Ice Shells, and I'd have to see for myself if it's worth replacing the 2 Yokujins with 2 Coral Priestesses to facilitate Tactician action.

It would be nice if people got given the Hero either for the day or just for the tournament, since it's such a specific entry requirement.

I don't have a way to give out the hero, but you can still participate! Just as Heroesfan123 did, you can theorycraft a deck and give the pros/cons of why it would/wouldn't work. You can still win in that way :)


It would be nice if people got given the Hero either for the day or just for the tournament, since it's such a specific entry requirement.

Depending on how these challenges evolve, I'd love to see us offer specials in the future. I have no way to say if it'll ever happen, but I can pass the feedback along. The single card acquisition method will be a big help for this as well once that becomes available.

Oh, we're doing pros/cons as well? Here let me try:

Pros:

Lotsa beefy big guys to play with, veery satisfying to pull it off (Speaking from experience, my main is a Yukiko fat build)

Okay, serious mode now:

Pros
- Relatively high health almost from the get-go, less vulnerable to board wipes than most Naga builds
-Gold piles and Yukiko's Shrine should be enough to survive first few turns, after which, You dominate
-Plenty of combos to go around, main one is Battle Trance/Hidden Temple+ Altar of Wishes to instafetch exactly the fattie You need at any given moment
-Special actually has an impact, only big, lasting guys here
-Runs plenty of answers to most of Dark, even without access to light
-Has a very good chance against OTKs.

Cons

-Long time to reach the maxout! Rush decks own You, barring a perfect starting hand
-Running Outmaneuver coupled with Days of Sanctuary - against an experienced opponent, You'll have to be lucky to be able to use it
- Melee line can and does get overcrowded FAST, while your only real shooters are the late-game Tide Master. Doublesuck, because You want to make Outmaneuver count, and yet, You want shooters as well!
Void Keeper can work against You, robbing You of Shi-no-Shi. It's a Neutral card to boot, so unless his special actually counts, You're basically shooting yourself in the foot by including him. Luckily, Necro is overly popular... in the range I currently play, may not be the case at the top.
Bad starting hand basically screws You and your game.
High amount of hit-or-miss creatures
Bouncing can hurt pretty bad, when you spend 2 cards to deploy someone at a discount, which You may not be able to replicate next turn.

I also don't have the hero so all I can do for now is to theory craft http://www.mmdoc.net/show_deck/9309/

I will play this hero 5-0-3 (normally 5-0-1, the rest are optional depending on the draws)

i will definitely play him as a rush deck with similar strategies like the other sanctuary heroes using combos like

turn DA (but make sure you have a creature with outmaneuver and bait your opponent to block and then turn 2, outmaneuver for a 4 damage
also the attack on a row then outmaneuver, move to another row with another creature to kill it

the paos will be used late game to deal instant damage but the goal is to control the board almost every turn

for OTKs and slow, just try to rush them which is why the deck has a lot of low cost creatures and the fortunes to speed up you putting your creatures on the board and dealing damage before they lock the game

the bridge is a very situational card which will be used for both defense (outmaneuver to put creatures on the same row and then using the card) and offense (to recycle paos)


POSSIBLE CHANGES BASED ON PERSONAL PREFERENCE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Remove a couple/ all Bridges and increase the other fortune or add a void keeper to counter necros
- Add Kabuki Tei but it means you need to pump your fortune to 2 and your range creatures already requires 1 magic so personally, i don't like adding him on this deck. - advantage, when the melee line gets crowded, you can replace a low level creature or a low health creature with him
- 2 cosmic as events against OTKs, you can have 2 of all the events cards or remove the week of the wild and replace them with cosmic
- add strength of the sea and just remove 1 bridge

Thank you Jason :) I think offers like that will help everyone feel included in the events, which I think are a great idea by the way!

The chances of a relatively new player having a specific hero, particularly a non-base set one, are pretty low.

I suggested elsewhere the idea of "Heroic packs" for the expansions, working in the same way as for the base set. Maybe you could pass that along too? :) It seems sad that someone can continue to buy loads of VR/HoV and end up with no Hero.

Had some test matches against 1350 ELO Fleshbane, interested in the replays, or just JP counts? It showcases both pros and cons, asking because of that.

Ok, let's start with the theory and the deck I've been playtesting on the ladder this morning :

Behaved well on the ladder but I'm not so sure with the Jackpot. :)

General concept :
The deck has been build in order to try to answer to 3 goals.

1.Take advantage of the 2 starting might of the hero.
> This made me select fortunes to boost the starting few turns and be able to cast a big drop 1 turn before it's expected.

2. Be fluid.
> This had lead to a 6-0-3 build, forsaking magic all along and therefore any creature that needs magic.
> Outmanoeuvering trick are out and raw strengh is all there is to the deck

3. Be resilient
> Playing fatties makes you quite vulnarable to dark magic and direct kills like the Banshee.
> Impact has been on event selection.

Events :

Manastorm, Path of the ancestors, Day of sanctuary. To give headaches to our friends relying to much on spells.
I'd like to use more Path of the ancestors and stick with only passive events but I own only 2 of them.


Fortunes :

> Gold piles and Hidden temples are there to make early drops with the 2 might of Takana.
> Shrine and Hidden temples are there to make it up if you fall behind in boardcontrol and drop more fatties than expected.
Shrine and Hidden temple are also cumulative (tested it before posting) and that can make Huge turn. :)

> Campfire and Broken bridge are imho auto-include to any 3 fate deck (thin the deck down, buys some time and counters puppetmasters)
In our case, Campfire is also like a later gold pile when it comes to cast a big drop earlier than expected and take advantage of the 2 might.

> Reveised Tactics to get rid of the T1 drops, gold piles etc. in the mid game when you want Honor creatures.


Creatures :

First thing, a note about the creatures that are not there :
No creature with magic requirement has been selected.
Waterfall guardian are not in because there'ra passive, don't benefit from honor (no attack) and can't even get replaced by Kabuki Tei
Venerable Kappa could be here but I'd replace a creature with Honor which I dont want and melée raw is a bit crowded. :)
Kenshi and Kensei are out because of low HP

Those that are here.

Shark Guard, As a T1 drop to put early pressure, acts as a meatshield an
DA, as T2 or T1 drop with the gold pile. Worth keeping alive untill you can drop a Wanizane on his sides.
White Fox, as T2 and to help raising the Fortune Stat without slowing the might curse which is the essence of the deck.
==> That make for 10 T1 / T2 drops and I expect to mulligan any hand without one of those.

Kappa, good T3 blocker
Naga Yokujin : good T3 shooter, replace snow maiden used in some sanctuary build, Higher HP, Higher retaliation.
==> T3 is more for buying time and soak dammage before the real deal.

Wanizame, Basic honor creature. A bit weak by itself, it's more of a default choice.
Kabuki Tei, Very usefull as your front raw tends to be over crowded and you don't want to be stuck with... Shark guards for instance.
==> 8 T4 Honor creatures

Yuki Ona, Good Blocker and good shooter, usefull for a stacked lane and the "Hypnotize" can be handy too.
Naga Warrior, He's the one we're going to 6 might for. I favored him over the others (Kenshi and Kensei) because of its good HP.

Can't seem to get it off the ground, all my matches so far were Sandalphon rushes, which I lost. Gonna give up, and try it with Yukiko, I've just about had enough of him.

Same build - with Spirits instead of Foxes - resulted in quick, effortless T5 with Yukiko.

Heh, I made one which handles previously posted decks with ease - http://www.mmdoc.net/show_deck/9335/ - easy T1.

So what can you do when haven't got 4 DAs or Shinje Warriors and are forced to create T1 Takana Osore deck? You realise it's time to use those 4 thrones and make a proper Takana Lock.

How to play:

Try to have at least 2 pieces of the Lock [Throne -> Inheritance (you need a creature in the grave first!) -> Avalanche] or some searching tools (Hall of Fortune, Battle Trance or Observatory) in the starting hand.

Rise your magic only when you are going to play Stream Singer, no need to touch it otherwise.

That's all, well addition of Week of the Dead could be an option if the enemy is smart and refuses to kill your first mob.

I always loved Sanctuary but it seems really random fraction for me now so i dont really play it often. But Takana?? I just couldn't resist to prove that Creature Decks are better than any otk/stall out there :)

I was changing the deck a bit during the challenge but only few cards, in the end it looked like this:

Few Words about the cards:

Fortunes:
Gold piles - Amazing card, we do really love our spring spirits or da on first turn dont we? It give us speed that we really need. Dont think of it as "dead card in lategame" because you can still use it nicely on turn 7+ didnt you ever miss that 1 res to finish the opp? :) And remember this card give you opportunity to keep the hand you would otherwise muligan!

Spells:
The Strenght of the Sea - no its not for all those otk/stall out there, it is to give our creature more DMG ( giveeee moreeee!!)

Creatures: I am not going to say few words about each of them, because some simply dont need any comment tbh :)


Venerable Kappa - Fortune ward x 4 in the deck is simply enough to have big advantage against stall/otk like yukiko lock etc. He is even Quite fat 3/3/6 so he can stand a chance against other fractions 4turn drops.

Seal Elf Archer - Sanctuary miss shooters :((( this one can be easly killed by insect swarms f.e but 3dmg for 3 res? Sounds great for me!

kensei/Naga Warrior/Wanizane - They work with Hero passive ability, it would be a waste not to use those. And Its our main weapon to push Dmg through enemy creatures.

Naga Tide/Coral Priestess - Outmanoeuvre ! We wanna rush enemy? Wanna play safe and kill enemy creature one by one? Here is our tool to make it happen! One big + to Naga tide, she it kinda strong with 4 shoot power :D

Deep Mountain yeti/Kappa shoya - why only 1 of each? Doesnt make sense right? Well they are fatty, If we put more our hand could be unplayable too often. All they need to do is take enemy attention! he will be like "holy **** i need to get that thing off the board now!"

Pao - wouldnt mention it in normal deck but here is a bit different. They are going for 4-5 dmg quite often, so not putting them in Takana Creature deck is just stupid.

How to play with this deck? Well i am not good in writing so i will just give link to my stream. All Jackpot challenge is there, few crazy games vs Random Garant and yukiko lock so dont miss it!

Well...Can't compete with that.

Ended up 10-8 with max Telo at 120.
Even though I know I don't play it right (never played this hero and not much sanc b4) it's pretty obvious the deck is flawed somehow. :)


Edit : Maxed at 175 telo after quite a few changes. Still far away from Durendall and I'll leave it there (dropped veeeeeery low with last attempts :) )

Unfortunately, for many of us (even ELO 1000+), it's also "what can you do when you haven't got 4x Week of Austerity, or, more importantly, even ONE Tower of Oblivion". You deck idea is nice, but still requires some key rares in quantity.

My deck list is a yukiko lock with takane and here is the list http://momcards.fr/fr/deck/view/1766.html

Pros

Good vs lots of deck actually really good vs adar that is really popular atm
DA are no problem to play since you can still up the fortune and play a DA first turn

Cons worst than Yukiko because of the starting stats that hurt playing singer and fast piece lock or sometimes you would have rather draw a card but you can t due to the obligation to up stats.

So it s even more difficult to play vs strenght of the sea deck
but this one is better than classical yukiko lock vs dhamiria because it has DA

Decent deck for the moment that s what i say currently at nearly 200

Now i've done tier one 259. with a 14/4 record it s quite good all loss were on a strenght of the sea 3 sandalphon 1 seria
