If it was multichoice, I'd go with Jerusalem, Venice, Rome (Echoes of the Roman Ruins alone earns it for me) and Constantinople. However, I had to choose a single one, and that was Venice.

Here's what I have to say about that:

I completely agree. The ambient boston score is so great. Remember the mission where you have to tail the guy during the boston massacre?? That track is awesome. It is also in the e3 boston demo. It is beautiful. I like it, because unlike in ac brotherhood and revelations, where the ambient scores are bursting with happiness and emotion, as if to say "yay the city is better now!!" the score for boston is very calm and serene. Just like ac2's venice and florence themes, they are very neutral sounding. I love that.

Guys, AC3 has got ambient music. Just because it plays only during missions doesn't make it any less ambient. >_< Plus, it's not like every mission has got a unique ambient track, those themes are often repeated and are connected to the locations you are in.

But on the topic, I'd say Constantinople. I think this one is my favourite track:

Well then I should have been more specific: this thread is for ambient music of the cities when freeroaming. Not during missions. Most of the soundtracks for All AC games are made up of "ambient" tracks for missions. I can't fit them all here anyway. Now you guys are just over complicating things

Well in real life, I have no music constantly in my ears. I grew up in the "Country" aka my house is surrounded by nature. The sounds of birds chirping, wind blowing, water falling, foot steps and crickets are my ambient music (why i enjoyed The frontier so much because it brought me there...i wasnt playing Connor..I WAS Connor)
But when i start walking around and hearing DUH! nuh nuh nuh duh nuh nuh nuh nuh..ill turn up my music volume for skyrim xD!

But... AC games also play their freeroaming tracks during missions, not just the situational mood ones, so I don't see the problem with the non-situational general city themes that play in AC3 missions being on the same level as the AC freeroaming ones ;)

That was in a scripted, polished demo 3 months before the release. Filled with all sorts of things that are not in the final game: like the music, the random encounter, the Dialogue that the guards say as you walk past them posing as a prisoner, the dialogue that the guard captain says as you are about to push him into the ocean.

Just because there was a random encounter in the demo doesn't mean that I can say that AC3 had random encounters. You of all people should know this

Okay, allow me to rephrase this thread, because it is obviously confusing some people:

This thread refers to ambient tracks that play in the cities while freeroaming, that don't require you to play a mission and ignore the rules of said mission to freeroam and listen to the music. This music of which I am referring to is what is heard after first turning on the console/PC, turning on the game, and appearing in the city that you have last saved in.

Oh wait...I can't anyway, because the poll is already filled to the brim with actual legitimate choices of cities with actual ambient freeroam music.

First, успокойся :D

Second... well, yeah. The division of ambient music in AC3 is not Boston/New York/Frontier/Homestead, but Boston and New York/Frontier/Homestead.

Third, Rome shares themes with one of the cities from AC2 with slight rearrangements (just as New York's and Boston's main ambient themes are different arrangements of one piece), and Forli's ambient music for the most part a different arrangement of Tuscany ambient music, but you don't seem to have problems with that either.

Fourth, ACR ambient music is tied to Sequences (in different sequences different ambient music plays, which is presumabely why there is no ambient music after completing the game, technically you're "out of sequence" and it doesn't know what to play, which is why you have to replay missions to hear it again), which is almost the same as tied to missions. Even though technically it's not, you can't just pop in the game in the console to listen to it (after you finish it, that is). But you don't have a problem with that in the poll.

So, yeah, so far your only legitimate argument is that there is no place, which is totally understandable, but if somebody likes AC3's City/Frontier/Homestead ambient music and wants to mention it in the thread as their favourite music... let them mention that in the thread without throwing up a fuss, please. Do you REALLY have to enforce the 'just freeroaming' music rule? Is it THAT necessary?

I'm sorry, I didn't read your post at all. I know that you are probably arguing against me, but I don't have it in me to continue. I'm sure your arguments are vaild

All the AC1 ambient tracks are amazing. Where is "Kingdom" on the poll? I don't think I can choose a favorite from AC1 tracks, so I'll just say that besides all the ones from AC1 my favorite is "The City of Rome" from ACB.

AC3 was dead and soulless, it had no ambient music. Music during missions does not count imo.

It's so hard to choose, I love: all of AC1's ambient tracks, home in Florence, welcome to Konstantiniyye, and city of Rome.
My favourite would have to be city of Rome though, it's just so damn glorious

Not to sound like a bit of an A-hole but I find Kyd's work so much better than Balfe's. I like a few of Balfe's, like Ratonhaketon, but every Kyd track is beautiful man. I said Welcome to Konstantiyye earlier but city of Rome may top it...or tour of venice--God I can't choose.

Your not an a-hole! It's just your opinion. I found faults with both of them, so it kinda evens out between them for me

Nothing about this makes you sound like an A-hole, it's an opinion. I also think Kyd's music is far superior to Balfe's. Balfe's work is generally good (DLC, main themes, subtle tracks) but I feel a lot of it is generic sounding and Hollywood-esque. Suited better to films and not so much video games.

Well...I don't find it generic/hollywoody actualy just not quite as good as Kyd's. Have you hear 'Ratonhaketon' it's not generic at all it's really heartfelt. And Balfe is a cool guy--he made for an awesome podcast. I'd really like to hear about Kyd on AC on some sort of podcast.

Hintity hint hint Loomer, if you're reading, which you probably aren't.

I think you think that because it bares a resemblance to the batman movies, which balls also worked on

Mainly because his work is very similar to Hans Zimmer's, and Zimmer is very well known for his theatrical orchestral pieces

Yeah, I mentioned that I liked the DLC's music in my previous post, it was very unique.

And he was also told by the producers themselves to make the main theme 'epic'. But Hans Zimmer worked on it so it wasn't really going to be much else :p

I'm going to go ahead and apologize for bringing this back up, but AC3 does have ambient music even when not playing a mission. The music doesn't play endgame, but it is present when freeroaming prior to the story ending. Obviously, anybody has the right to disprove my claims, though.

That piece used in both Boston and New York is a huge favorite of mine! Too bad it was gone during freeroam.....

This is very easily a competition between Florence and Jerusalem.
