What is The Jackpot Challenge?

Competing in the Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/) tournament and want to experiment, but don't want it to count against your score? We're now hosting weekly tournaments for some competitive gaming outside of Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/) to experiment, have fun, and WIN! The Jackpot Challenge is a weekly event that encourages players to experiment with new decks/heroes and discuss the possible strategies they create.

Your goal is to place as high as you can in the Jackpot tournament using your own version of our Deck of the Week. We highly encourage you to stream your experimenting using our new integrated Twitch.TV SDK feature! Additionally, share your results here in this thread. Did you find an awesome combination of cards that helped you place in Tier 1? Let us know!

Since this challenge is played entirely in the Jackpot tournament, this will not hurt your chances of qualifying for Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/)! Our August qualifier is underway, so make sure to sign up for that here as well: http://road2paris.com/register/

Are there prizes to be won?

Of course! On top of the prizes already included in playing Jackpot, we will be awarding seals to players that participate here in the Jackpot Challenge. To become eligible for extra rewards, share your experiences with the Jackpot Challenge Deck of the Week here in this thread. Here are a few examples of ways to qualify:

• Make an awesome play during one of your games? Explain how you were able to pull it off. The more detail the better!
• Stream your Jackpot Challenge matches and post the replays here for us to see.
• Theorycraft the Deck of the Week, come up with a sound strategy for victory, and share your results with us.

Our three favorite submissions based on decks, streams, or discussion will all earn prizes. The first place prize will be 200 Seals while the second and third place winners will both earn 100 seals each.

Will participating in The Jackpot Challenge hurt my chances of qualifying for Road to Paris?

Not at all! If anything, this could even help you out. You will be gaining practice and game knowledge by experimenting with new decks and card mixtures. Remember that jackpot tournament finishes are not counted towards your Road to Paris (http://road2paris.com/) online qualifier, so grind out some jackpot games and share your triumphs with the community!

Deck of the Week:

http://www.mmdoc.net/images/cards/normal/Kal-Azaar.png

Our Deck of the Week will be using the hero Kal-Azaar, Invoker of Agony. Your goal is to build a deck around Kal-Azaar and to climb as high as possible in our Jackpot tournament on Friday, August 9th.

Remember, post your experience, decks, and stream replays here in this thread for your chance to win seals! Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the support! We want to create more fun events for you guys. This is a huge help for people trying to qualify for Road to Paris as well. Gotta get that experimenting in some way. :)

Technically you don't HAVE to play, you could just theorycraft a deck. You'd be much more likely to be selected as a winner by going above and beyond though. You can try playing, sharing your experiences, streaming, etc. The more engaged and informative, the better! There are three winners a week. :)

4/4/1

Decided 4\6\1 was way to slow, so cut the 6 cost spells. Deck is too slow vs control, coin flip vs other rush decks. I'm missing key cards like shadow image and epic fire spell. made tier 5 not sure I can improve. Play creatures\Kill theirs\win?

50/50 win rate :\

Also this version of the deck is very easy to acquire all the cards!

Why lacerator over demented?

hogninjai

was thinking either would be fine, but lacerator seems like it has more card advantage, area blast and discard. Iv'e also tested Twister, which is great vs control and usually get a fireball vs aggro.
Do you think sweep is better, rarely does it come into play without teleports. Thanks for reply I watch your stream from time to time :)

well sweep is similair effect to sweep, but the immune to retaliation on demented is awesome, while chaos lacerator kills itself and also with the tamed spirits around, and u not using IS you get more out of the demented for sure.

Explain me a bit about how Twitch works. Can I save the videos I record, or you have to be Online in the precise momment that I'm recording them?

I just started with Kal-Azar. 3-0 so far and I want to show a screen shot from the last win. It is against Yukiko lock. Early pressure, I already like him ^^

Well my girlfriend wants some attention, so I choose to stop after 8 games. 7 wins, 1 loss = 171 telo. Imo is 171 all right with a Kal-Azaar deck and maybe I could go up further if I played some more.

The build is 3/6/3 and can be found here: http://www.mmdoc.net/show_deck/8624/

Overall
When going first and you can play Maniac you can play it somewhat like a rush because you have a lot of direct damage later to take care of your opponent. When going second you often can't play any creature unless you have Maniacs. And playing 2 maniacs seems to be pretty stronk. I raped Adar Malik this way - or rather he gave up after a few rounds.

Events
- Week of Knowledge. If you can't get creatures down in turn 1, you might be able to have card advantage instead. If the opponent is cleaning the board and play a 2 HP creature, you can use Kal Azaar ability and get more cards from this event too.
- Celebrations is very important. Mostly you will have to deal the final damage with altar of destruction, but if you don't have enough cards to play it, then it sucks. So in late game you will use these events all the time.

Creatures
- Maniac is the most important creature to give pressure from start.
- Dark Assassin is really good when the opponent is not removing it but plays something in front of it. Town Portal and Soulreaver after that will often result in already 8 damage (maybe 12 damage if you played Maniac also). That is almost already a win.
- Succubus and Demented is just to have bigger chance to get some more pressure from 2 cost creatures and often these are used as meat shield .
- Pao Deathseeker is important to keep the pressure. Be sure to play them when you have the chance - for example against Yukiko lock. I lost to a Yukiko lock and won against one.
- Dark Wood Treant is just a good meat shield when you try to reach for armageddon.
- Caller of the void can just give a few ekstra damage and can take a 2 hits also. Against Adar Maliks it seemed they just played Spitters to counter it. But it can still give 1 damage the turn it dies from poison. So that seemed to be fine. Callers are also good together with Altar of Shadows cause they can give another damage this way.

Spells
- Town portal and soulreaver can get the damage through. If you don't have armageddon yet, these can also remove some of the creatures the opponent use to pressure you. You can also do the Pao + TP + Pao combo. I didn't needed it because I had enough direct damage from other cards.
- Cursed Chain was a test. But it seems very nice aswell to give a few damage and before Alter of Shadow it worked very good as well. But I couldn't find room for more.
- Forbidden Flame and Armageddon is important. These are used to clear the board after you have made some initial damage and prepare for more paos and direct damage.

Fortune
- Altar of destruction the important finisher. Remember to use enough celebrations to use them.
- Hall of torment is used to either give damage or force the opponent to play certain cards. And as you can see in one of the screen shots above these where very usefull against Yukiko lock.
- Altar of Shadows have a lot of use too. You can stall for armageddon, some of your cards can give more damage with this and you can use it to get more cards on hand for your direct damage.

Cards I have been thinking about adding.
- Juggernaut to give even more level 3 pressure. I would maybe play those if I didn't play altar of shadows
- Fire bolt to take care of creatures early. But the card is too cheap and you need to have enough cards on hand.
- Fireball to take care of creatures. But with melee creature against melee creatures then you couldn't get important damage through. But all my opponents that played creatures played chess formation, so it was clear they where afraid of fireball, so there was no use for it - they where just afraid anyway.
- Dispel but these didn't seem to be so important. There is a lot of ways to give the damage.
- Revised tactics to get rid of some card that I don't need in the situation and make it more likely to get the direct damage. This card would be the first card I would try out if I didn't do good with the current deck.

I like this deck because It was quite hard to play. And it was even possible to win against meta heroes with a decent draw.

Unlike the Acamas deck I won't suggest this deck to noobs. It was pretty hard to play and you need to know what you can expect from your opponent to counter it
