At the moment he was about kill Desmond... then bam?
What was that? Why he had Pieces of Eden marks on his head?

Never went into a Synch Nexus.

The Reapers Indoctrinated him.

The Leviathans Brainwashed him.

The bleeding effect I think. That's why he shouted no in Russian and tried to resist.

It was a cliche that hit him, right at the crucial moment...the 'bad' guy gets cannot kill the hero, leaving the hero to finish the deed.

Feared so.

I blame the gamers for not giving Desmond a gun because "It'll be too easy." or "It'll be a shooter". Hell people think using Cross' gun near the end is the reason AC can't go further than periods with single shot firearms.

You might have noticed the historical and modern day parts use the same gameplay mechanics. Which leads to ludicrousities like guards firing their guns once every five minutes (like the hostirical guards did.) and then forgetting about it and resuming the ridiculous baton fight. If Desmond had a gun he'd fire it once and then spend the next five mins to reload it. Which would have made the modern day parts total comedy.

AC will always remain a history-centric game. the devs have made it amply clear..

actually no i picked up gun from dead guard and could shoot 6 times in row so only guard had problem shooting 1 time in 5 mins

No I rather have the ghost playthrough of that sequence where Sam was never detected and didn't kill anyone...

But but but, it's an Action Adventure game! And "we support different playstyles! maybe!"

^^ First of all there is an achievement in the game "without killing any one complete the game"

I really liked the concept that its upto player whether you want to go gun blazing or stealth :)

So technically its not an action game..

Youre getting off topic. Like what spider said he was brainwashed by the leviathans but managed to fight it. /question

The most accurate answer, to be quite honest.
