Does anyone know if the combat controls in AC4 will be the same as AC3. Although Connor's personality wasn't very exciting in AC3, I loved the game, the story and especially the combat controls. Anyone have info if Edward Kenway will fight like Connor?

I think the moveset is the same but with added moves. I think fighting is the same, we haven't actually seen any though. The new weapon wheel is now Arkham style thank god because having 4 weapons mapped to a D-Pad is not enough. But this new wheel could open a new fighting system.

Then again, they havent mentioned it, and if that was true, then they would as its something new. So from a guess, same moveset with added extras, jumping/climbing is the same, new walk, new run.

Pretty much the same.

Nice. Arkham style would be great with all the different weapon options. Agreed that 4 weapons is not enough to have mapped.

Is there videos on youtube of the main theme for Black Flag, the one they played on the music livestream. Just, not the music livestream. Thanks

The controls will probably be identical, but AI and archetypes might be slightly different/improved and there will be new animations.

On twitter it was said that multiple enemies can attack Edward the same time.

We already had that in AC3.

I hope it happens more often in AC4, they're so satisfying!

Regarding whether Edward will fight like Connor, he is also going to have the rope dart.

They said you can shoot during mid combo without interruption. Not sure if that includes the middle of a kill streak.

edit: well in ac3 you can shoot in the midst of a streak, but it was just part of an animation and not something that is more, er, hands-on.

I expect them to be fairly similar to AC3's. Out of the three core pillars the focus seems to have been on improving stealth, which I think was 100% the right choice. I hope they have implemented some kind of quickfire option for all your tools.

I would agree, except now that weapon wheel is gone, I think just quick-select for each tool should be OK.

Can someone give me a link to the new weapon wheel?

It's pretty much an extended version (Also like the Batman games) of the quick select we've had in all AC games.
Edit: For some reason I can't embed it into my post. http://gyazo.com/5b81adfc211a3f6d50db54b64b276bcd

Well, its good that its real-time. Being transported into a different screen was very annoying..

Yeah the new quick-select alone means it will def be better than AC3. Still in melee combat responsiveness is king and one tap beats two taps any day in the week ;).

I remeber one of the AC3 devs saying that was a thing he really regtretted that they released the game with that weapon wheel. I mean it was just objectively bad and not a concious design decission. The time pressure on these projects is nuts.

Yeah I remember seeing it as well.

Edit: found it!
"Steven Masters directly addresses the janky inventory, which he says was a late-game concession, and a frustrating one to ship in the game:
Thanks for the feedback... for the controls, a lot of it was to do with going into the trees with the freerunning. Trees are a much more complex environment than cities; you have many more valid possibilities, and it's way more frustrating to jump to the ground, so we needed to do something—hence Safe Freerunning on RT.
The UI had some technical issues very late in development that meant we had to slow down access to the weapon wheel particularly; it pissed me off as well. Sorry. We're trying to improve it in the patches!"

I hope theres more double counter kills, they are soooo satisfying when you pull them off.

Pull them off? Double counters were easier to achieve than single counters. You could have the button held down to parry and it would still send you into the double-counter animation. But the double kills with the tools were really fun to do with a bit more challenge to pull off.

Regardless, they were still awesome. I replay AC3 (freeroam) purely for the combat.
