Well, seeing as how we're gonna have animated sailors, and stuff, and life rafts for downed pilots, are we gonna see lifeboats being launched from sinking ships??

Say for example you sink a carrier, once the carrier has slipped below to davy jones's locker, will there be a bunch of lifeboats floating around in it's place??

(and more importantly, will these lifeboats be strafeable??? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif )

whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?!

Are we really getting "animated" sailors? I would think that they just stand frozen behind the guns...

Lifeboats from sinking ships would be cool =) Espesially if you could strafe them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Lifeboats?
That is something for Titanic.
Nobody launches Lifeboats when a warship gets sunk. The boats you see on the deck are traffic boats, not lifeboats.
You have life rafts and lifevests, but I dont know any chases were the boats were launched. You hardly have Davits on Warships, you mostly need a powered crane, which is likely to be inoperable when the ship is hit. Also these deck stored boats are mostly the first thing that gets hit. Many warships even removed these boats before going into action, since they are a fire hazard.
Sailors going over the side will have life rafts and floats, but not boats.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I wasn't really thinking of the big huge 28 man launch things, but the wee rubber thingies, and all the sailors in their vests.

Just a wee note on the sailors on the warships that we will be able to see, surely they should be modelled with helmets and flak vests on???

Rafts and floater nets (a long net with floats at the top you can grab onto), and possibly a 28' motor whaleboat? Fletcher class destroyers had 2, 28' motor whaleboats slung from DAVITS abeam the forward stack. These could be lowered underway (at slow speed) and were used by plane guard destroyers for rescue as well as general utility. What actually floated loose after a sinking could be quite variable!

Abandoment in good order greatly improved the survival rate, though this was sometimes not possible.
