Looking at this weeks development shots of the Lex you can see that elevators are functional as;
1. Sometimes they are up, sometimes down
2. The hangar deck wall is visible in one shot

Now why go to all this trouble?? Are these elevators to serve a purpose??

It appears that we'll be able to taxi from the hangar deck to the flight deck.

this feature has been mentioned by Luthier several times.. he said he imagined the player starting out on the lift, going up to the flight deck.. but that it is still being developed as to how much interaction there will be with this feature.

it is an immersion thing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I sure hope this is an option, not the only way! My taxiing skills are so poor I'd never get myself lined up in the right place to start from. Anyway, weren't WW2 planes basically manhandled to their takeoff locations? Why start on the elevator it you're just going to watch animated people (I hope) push you around fot 10 minutes?

Here's a thought. Maybe the elevators are being modeled mainly as targets that can be damaged to affect a carrier's ability to service and launch planes in campaigns...so if you let your carrier deck and elevators get ruined you can't land or takeoff and you loose the battle that way, not by being shot down?

Yes to your first post - that is why they are calling it a w.i.p...Luthier at the time was not sure exactly how it would work. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

As for damage etc.. I agree it will definitely make protecting your carrier a high priority...... BANZAI!! hahah BANZAI!BANZAI!!!

I'd like to see functional elevators if its worked out. Watching shipmates takeoff & land while on the elevator would be nice.
Also a great idea on the damaging. Would definetly require more CAP than is use to now, in most places.

In any case just adds some interesting detail. Would be neat if you hit the right spot with a bomb or torp the elevator would get blasted upwards... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That and the pilot didnt really taxi it like that.. under power that is.. a tug would move it around at that point

Yeah, ASH

that was mentioned - but if you just had POV in the cockpit while the plane was moved into position - and then were "handed" control after ward - when the plane has been positioned for T.O. that would be ok.

The Enterprise actually DID get it's forward elevator blown overboard when a bomb penetrated the deck and exploded below deck. The deck was also buckled upward. They were still able to recover aircraft after the fires were extinguished. I think this was the last damage Big E received in WWII as it was at Puget SY being repaired when the Japanese surrendered.
