I dunno... a friend and I were talking about IL-2/IL-2FB and thought that the muzzle flashes on the weapons are rather large and perhaps too opaque

seems to be the case for mostly large caliber cannons and small caliber MGs such as 7.7mm and 7.9mm

what's your opinion?

I think in real life you would see more or less smoke than those flashes. imo.

they claim they cant becuase the game engine BS we all know they are larger then they should be but mr.stubborn doesnt want to change it like the 190 cockpit proof pictures of it in level flight no bar, the muzzleflashes look ridiculous same with the tracer smoke behind the plane, solution speed up the fade

another thing is the tracer colors are way too brightly colored they should be white in the center surrounded by the color.

ever see a 190 shoot looks plain silly

I think they're overdone a bit. I'd like less flash. When I'm within 200m I can't see the target for the muzzleflash.

Execpt for camera footage,(that I've seen), shot in low light,(e.g. Pacific Theatre), I don't remember seeing much muzzle flash.

Some smoke though when planes flyby close.

Tracers seem to me modelled well though.

Fly at night in P~47 and fire guns. The landscape below lights up slightly, even if you fire at 5000 meters altitude.

Its real too, at low level, you can see roads more clearly when the guns are firing.

PS:: try it at dark *night*, for those who didn't catch that instruction.

You will have to use FMB to set up a night mission, so its a good reason to open up FMB. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have noticed that the cannons have HUGE muzzle flashes.

It seems like these 50 cals aren't too bad\

"Those who long for exaltation look upwards. But I look downwards for I am the exalted." This was a quote from Nietzsche as he flew in his FW190 @ 20,000ft looking downwards.

If youparked the planes onthe runway and fired the static weapons, the muzzle flashes would be close to what you seen..still less, but close. The problem is that you need to remember thatthere was 300MPH head winds these guns were fired into..and that dampers the effect dramatically in real life

I remember an interniew with finnish 109 pilots who didnt recall seeing flashes on nosemounted mg or nosecannon, only smoke.

I think it was on "virtualpilots.fi" -not sure.

i wonder how men like Marseille were able to put their bullets so precisely on their targets when their planes muzzle flashes were so huge it would have blinded them in daylight and set their engine cowlings on fire?

I say we need even larger muzzle flashes, they need to be bigger than the plane, and for the W├╝rger we need even more bars to be seen. Only when we are almost totally blind and still shot down VVS or other allied planes in masses will they believe that we fly the better planes, hah. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-very-happy.gif

I think muzzle flashes while flying are overdone. As someone stated earlier, flashes are now something they probably would be if one fired the weapons while stationary on ground. Even Hartmann was amazed how great the muzzle flashes were when he fired Karaya One's weapons for the last time on ground, according to his biography "The Blond Knight of Germany".

During daytime you wouldnt see muzzleflashes at all or hardly, and in the night you would see them, but a lot smaller than they are now.
