~Salute All~!!;

Though I feel it would be awsome to have the same seemingly swirling puffy smoke as we see outside a plane, another nice effect that I feel would make things more balanced would be smoke within the cockpit.

Currently a few planes when hit in the engines oil up the windscreen making it hard to continue to fight, more so land. We also have another feature where if you are wounded you tend to get the red screen.....also blackouts and such. The smoke washing over the windscreen is nice, yet what I am talking about is it filling it.

How difficult might it be to add cockpit smoke? As said above billowing smoke would be great, yet even a 2 level gradient of smoke similar to the blackout/redout/wounded feature restricting vision on single engined planes would be awsome.

So 1 level of smoke for that light bit you get when engine is lightly damaged, and "near" blackout when smoking heavily.

This might force more players to bail instead of fighting till the bitter end, and really I "believe" be more true to life.

Not a bad idea, but I wonder if it will take away from FPS. I would like to see this added, though.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Definately for BOB - After all Galland was well known to have a lil Smoke in the Cockpit. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Great Idea though - The more realistic the better, well everything bar the Pain/suffering and death part.

I agree that this would be a nice addition.

But I would request that the pilots also be given a way to jettison the canopy, as we see before a bail out, without actually leaving the plane.

That way pilots would be able to clear the smoke from the cockpit, at a speed reduction from the drag of course, in order to see out once again for a crash landing, etc.

Sounds good - smoke filling the pit is an experience frequently commented on by WW2 pilots. I imagine a simple implementation, fog view inside type of thing, wouldn't effect frame rate too much.
As noted though I wouldn't expect to see this in IL2 - BOB hopefully.

What about smoke AND fire. Would be kind frightening to have your cockpit filled with smoke but imagine seeing fire starting to engulf your instrument panel.
*sigh* probably just pipe dreams though.
