I know its a problem since the first IL-2, but the AI-behavior is still way off in most missions...there is no problem in a 1-1, but as soon there are 2 pairs fighting its going wrong..the leaders go for each other and the wingmen just hang behind looking round and having fun, but they dont shoot at each other...just been flying the TB3/rata mission...same again...the 1.pairs-leader hangs behind the other leader shooting, the 2 wingmen fly in a row with no more then 20m between them and....nothing happens...
same when a pair gets jumped, the attacker allways goes for the leader and not the wingman, sometimes passing the wingman at 10m w/o any action neither from the attacker nor the wingman...
dont get me wrong, i love the game and i love the new planes but i´d really like the AI getting more "real"

It is more real than you might consider. There are various doctrines of section tactics. One is the fighting wing tactic in which the wingman follows the leader. Essentially the leader is doing the attacking while the wingman hangs on for dear life and watches the leader's six. This seems to be the tactics doctrine programmed into at least the lower level AI. It clearly has disadvantages, but one advantage is that it is useful to help initiate inexperienced pilots in the combat environment. There was a high attrition rate for new pilots. So it's not necessarily always unrealistic.

Attack the leader while his wingmate is watching him. You're likely to get attacked. I've noticed that at the higher AI levels there is much less adherence to this kind of rigidity of formation. It would be interesting to open up some dynamic missions in the FMB after the AI have started advancing to see whether a flight might have its leader at a higher AI level and the rest at a lower level.

And by the way, it's called an Ishak, not a Rata.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Sure i know its a common doctrin to fly as a 2 man-element as a part of a finger-four and yes i know its the wingmans job to cover the leader and stick with him...i`m not new to sims and i`m not new to flying...
What i mean is that the leader allways goes for the other elements leader and ignores the other wingman, instead dive down, nail the wingee and kill the leader after..but no, the ai passes the enemy wingee slow and steady to get the nr1 and the wingman doesnt react at all !! no nothing...not even when the leader is under fire...he flies straight on sightseeing...only the moment when the leader is killed, the wingee (now the leader) comes to live and is ignored by the other wingee..

More surreal: when the attacker needs some time to kill the other, the 2 wingees fly side-by-side and ignore each other completly..sometimes no more then 10m in between...and even "inexperienced pilots" arent that stupid...

P.s. ishak for russian side, rata for german (yes i know, its a spanish expression dating back to the civil war) and btw i fly red only...
