Oleg has already stated that they won't, so don't waste ya breath pilgrim.

It's a day/night compromise that the engine can't alternate between. kinda.

better let it lie.

I want the muzzle flashes to be realistic as possible. If those are coded in the graphic engine so there is quite difficult or impossible I´m willing to accept that.(what else could i do http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)However,I don´t have any problems with the flashes.I can deal with them. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

I can only say "none of the above." It's not the size that's wrong, it's their intensity, or rather their contrast compared to the surrounding, that makes them appear too large. This is a bit tricky, though, since for them to be correct, they'd have to make the code such that the intensity of them must change depending on the lighting conditions. Sun in your face - more or less invisible, dead night - blinding!

lol, the flashes having to be big because thats what they'd be like at night. Thats a lame excuse for an excuse. I love this game, but there are a few stupid features and dodgy models that really spoil it.

Hi Badsight,

I'm just a green noobie and I don't have all the info that you hardcore guys have, so please be a little understanding.

Apparently it's an issue which has been done to death before. Well, I didn't kow that.

Anyway, it's interesting to me (and I'm sure others) to see what the general feeling amongst the people here is, and in that regard I think calling this thread 'useless' is a little strong. Don't you agree?

The results have been very interesting.

All I can say is that we are extremely fortunate to have a developer that will listen to us at all, even if his answer is "no". All the quirks that are in CFS3 are there to stay. There will always be an enemy base 5 miles from you, ready to flak you to death in quick combat. So, hats off to you for this poll, and my vote is (if possible) to reduce it by 25%. I can live with it, such as it is, but after seeing the 163 flash, I can safely say, yes, it has to be a bit much.

This is one issue that I do not believe will change (as was mentioned, this issue has been discussed many times before), but you have my vote anyway.

We use 40mm and 57mm Bofors guns on our Naval ships in Sweden and non of those guns have muzzle flashes that's anywhere near the ones in IL2. Closest I've stood to the guns when being fired is about 5 meters and there are no problems seeing through the muzzle flash, would be nice if they could be decreased in size...

Its not really that they're too small. The main problem, like someone already mentioned, is that there is no contrast between how they apear during night or day.
At night they look fine (ok, maybe 25% too large but still, fine more or less..) but during the day the should be practically invisible in most circumstances, and this is where the sim fails for some reason.
Personally I have other issues with the game I find more concerning, but you still cant deny this is the best prop sim available (aside from X-plane) so its more than worthy of being forgiven for minor things like this.

The muzzle flashes definetely shouldn't be as bright during the day. As mentioned, it's not necessarily a problem of size rather of intensity/constrast. You should barely see them during the day, if you see anything at all.

Anyway, this has been done to death and isn't going to be changed. It's a shame, but that's the way it is.

They are rediculous and I voted for a 75% reduction in size.

Oleg has said for some time that it would take to long to change them over. If he had just started back then they'd have been done by now.

Wilbus, xenonimage2000, AirBot and Triple_AA,

Thanks for your input guys.

I voted for 75% too. Like triple_AA said, they are ridiculous. They make FB look arcadish.

"It's a day/night compromise that the engine can't alternate between. kinda."

How many players fly at night?

I've been AA gunner in the military. Fired with 20mm cannons and 12,7 machine-guns. Never saw such flames! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Guys, it's not size--it's the opacity. They're completely opaque.

If they were, say, 50% transparent, they'd look great.

They're also a little 'thorny' for my tastes. The only firearms I've seen make those rosebush flares are small-caliber weapons with multi-vent muzzle brakes on them. The G36 and M16 come to mind.

You have to remember what's causing that flash: it's expanding, combusting gases. They spread quite evenly, or at least smoothly.

Here, take a look at some of these... There's a range of calibers in here.

See how smooth and feathered those are? The ones in IL-2 look like you could stab or cut yourself on them, plus they're a completely red-and-orange opaque, instead of the lighter white and light orange. Most of those pictures are at least partially see-through
