It's a n00b plane.... only for n00bs who have good marksmanship, conserve their ammo and are brave enough to commit to a knife fight in a plane that can't dive away without falling apart.

rgr that the yak3 aint no noob plane anymore. to win in a yak3 now you gotta be talented and lucky cuz that plane is EASY to shoot down now.

Ain't that the truth and a double quack (Storm). The Yak-3 does not break up as quick as it used to. Used to break up at around 750. Have tested it 6 times and the average speed before things come off is 840. But all he experts say the planes are all correct in their FM's. Paleeeeaaaaassssssseeee.. It also snap rolls pretty quick on ya if yer not watchin what yer doin.

Yak-3 a n00b plane? Well... let me put it this way:
Who is more n00b, the guy flying the Yak-3 or the guy turn-fighting him with Bf109?

NOTE: If I have to fly an Allied plane, I don't fly the Yak-3 because I like to have a big, hard rod between my legs.

I fly the P-39 instead /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Last night I was flying around in a 190 A-8 with a fresh-from-the-field Yak-3 on my tail; I spent some time trying to get away, but I kept getting pinked anyway so finally I gave up and decided I'd just ignore him while going after targets. He was on my tail for 5 minutes easy, his shots bouncing me around every time I had a good attack run lined up, which unfortunately threw my aim off enough that it took me a good amount of extra time to kill my target (the holes in my wings were making it a little difficult to fly smoothly as well). After a minute or two of this I got my kill, and since there was definitely no way I was going to get that Yak now that I'd been shot up, I decided to head home. At some point in time during that flight back, he must have ran out of ammo as he finally gave up shooting at me. I landed, laughed, and hit Refly.

The Yak-3 is now a great plane to learn how to not get shot in, as well as a good way of training yourself to shoot targets in the frontal quadrant where your rounds will actually do something. There's no way it's a noob plane, though - the only times I've been killed by one lately is when I'm stupid enough to turn-fight in a 190 and let them shoot me in the face as I'm looking up through the top of the canopy at their incoming tracers.

Noob or not, I certainly wouldn't feel as accomplished getting kills in any Yak (let alone the 3) as I do in the P-39.

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Gunnery skills are something you can learn. The Yak-3s ammo lasts plenty long enough once you get a grip on the gunnery. Now I doubt you can make a P-39 fly outside of its limitations to match a Yak-3s flight abilities. Note: that last sentence was a hint as to which plane is more n00bish.

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I rest my case.
Yak-3 = n00b-3

I think the cannon on the P-39, makes it much easier to get kills than the Yak3. Especially against the Fw190.

Personally -I find the yak harder to fly - or maybe less fun - the p39 is more my style - that said those yak guns are very very accurate and have a high rate of fire - which means more lead on target with a short burst. I've found them very effective against all other types - same with the la7.

The P-39 is more fun for me too. It fits like a hand in glove. The Yak-3 is just easy to master in a shorter span of time IMO.

Ok, I was too black and white with my response. I should of posted an eight page thesis on how the Yak-3 is easier to get kills with because ___ % of people fly this or that which equals an easier opponent for the Yak-3 while only ___ % fly these few which are easier for the P-39. As I stated in the FW-190 thread the P-39 is better at taking down some aircraft. Isn't this a no-brainer, does it really need to be mentioned? When available DF maps contain a lot more late war fighters (i.e. Yak-3s) than anything else. Therefore the statement "Yak-3 is easier to get kills" is a true statement when you dissect the overall picture. Am I wrong?

The yak is not so uber anymore at least not like in IL2 it was.

It is a great place to sit comfortably in the cockpit and let that ego swell up all fat though, cause you know that you and only you fly a mans plane and that everyone else who doesn't fly like you is a coward, or doing something wrong, or they just whine all the time.

For those guys who fly it because they like it (a small small minority) I have respect for.

for the rest of them that blaze around crying all day because of the new FM, scr*w em I say.

(but it is a fun plane to fly, really)

An experienced P-39 driver would be more dangerous than an experienced Yak-3 driver IMO. The Yak-3 just doesn't have the speed or firepower to hang with my Focke-Wulf.

Why do I respect the P-39 more?

37mm nose cannon that's why.(Also roll-rate overmodelled by ~20 deg/sec at high speeds, just like FW)

Oh, BTW - the Yak-3 isn't even the best Yak. The premiere Yak is the Yak-9U. Why haven't many people seemed to figure this out?
