Our Local boy just went back to back with Olympic Gold in the pool at Athens in the mens 400 metres.
Way to go thorpy, or Thorpedoe as we call him here, lets not forget that other power house of Australian swimming Grant Hackett snapping at thorpys heels to be edged out into silver medal status in the same event.

We are looking forward to the showdown with that young American fella in the Pool Monday night over the 200 metre mens free style.

What about our Aussie Girls breaking a 48 year winning streak by the American Girls in the team event!
Go Girls!

Yep its really turning into an Australia versus America Show down in the Olympic Pool at Athens.

Go Aussie!

Uhhh... sure. I never bother watching the Olympics, too boring.

Plus the torch relay and the eight connected circles were all tools of Hitler and the Third Reich. :P

oh man...

I'm hoping we're not going to get a deluge of excited 'my country won a medal' posts...

I'm mean, it's not like swimming is an important sport like hockey... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

A kid who graduated from my high school is fencing in Athens this year. I wonder how he did.

A girl I knew from High School is competing in the swimming events. Not sure which ones specifically but she swims for Mexico.

I would like to see Thorpe and Phelps go at it. 2 Gold and 2 World records so far for Phelps.

Next time you see a bit of chain-link in the next two weeks, see if you can identify it as his work, and judge for yourself.

the Olympic Games are awesome - the best thing in this world that we all pretty much do together. Heres a silent prayer that they go 'uninterupted' as it were...

Medal counts suck... who really cares which Nation garners the most Gold medals? ... thats the kind of mentality that fosters cheating.

Greece really put on a show in those Opening Ceremonies ! WOW.

Indeed. The Olympic spirit goes beyond sport. In ancient Greece the games were the start of a sacred truce that could allow athletes from every corner of the Greek world travel freely to Olympia. The award: The glory and a olive wreath, the peace symbol.

This spirit is still there. There were some moving moments in the opening ceremony: The Afghanistan flag being carried by an unveiled woman, the united Korean team, the Palestine delegation... I'm not really into sport, but I love The Games.
