I see the following game as almost a predecessor to Assassin's Creed

Tenchu Wrath of Heaven
Not saying that Assassin's Creed is at all based on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft took some inspiration from it. Awesome stealth / action game series, (well the previous 2 games were PS1 so for the time they were great)

Similar components of the game include stealth assassinations, using items such as throwing knives (or surikens depending on your reigion) smokebombs, health potions, poison darts, running on rooftops, "climbing" (much more limited in Tenchu but still present) enemy awareness mechanism (Ki meter in Tenchu which shows proximity and level of awareness, arrow above head in AC which shows level of detection and intent) and probably more.

Also in Tenchu you could use a cheap equivilent of the rope dart to hang enemies and a "bamboo" gun similar to the hidden gun.

Anyway after playing Tenchu I think Feudal Japan is the perfect place for Assassin's Creed (4). If you watch the intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVEeGtO0Px4) you can see some similarity, and the style of the architecture and music. I believe Tenchu was relatively low budget, at least compared to assassins creed, so you can imagine what the high end composers can come up with in this genre (I really enjoy the Tenchu music as it is anyway)

The musical style is great, the setting is beautiful, the history is rich, and even without getting into any specific historical moments you can immediately have several powerful factions involved.

The Samurai and the Ninja come to mind, which could be affiliated with or independant of a third and obvious group, the Assassins. Climbing around these sorts of buildings would be awesome

I have loved each AC game thus far, and each location has provided something different. I would love a return to the middle east areas similar to AC1 (Damascus and Jerusalem especially) I think we have had "enough" of the medievil type settings in Italy (though that being said I almost can't ever get bored of those settings) and old America was surprisingly really nice, varied and enjoyable too. But I think going to Japan, or at least Asia, gives a completely different architectural and cultural style that will feel fresh and interesting.

A few samples of music from the Tenchu games

We don't need Ninjas and Samurais, what we desperately need is a Scottish Assassin.

I'm not sure if you're serious but that pic actually looks pretty cool haha!

What does "We don't need" mean ?? I really do not understand its context...but alright..

We did not need Italy...We could`v continued in the ME..
We did not need America ...we could`v continued in Europe..

By that I mean those locations were fantastic, but now I would like to head off to a significantly different place. In other words Italy in AC2 was awesome, and I loved Rome in ACB, but I don't have any desire to continue exploring these similar places.

But in all honesty Fuedal Japan is one of my favourite historic periods, just seems to beauitful yet dramatic and I love the buildings. Also Tenchu was one of my favourite game franchises in my early gaming life so that has something to do with it :)

I see Assassin's Creed as similar to what Tenchu SHOULD have become, but I think they ran out of money and the franchise died. A blend between Tenchu and Assassin's Creed, set in Fuedal Japan... That would be very exciting for me

You don't need to take everything so literally.

Free_Hidings, I was not referring to you xD

You don't need to take everything so literally.
Well then you should point that out, because quite frankly, the internet is supposed to be taken literally....It`s not speech

Who me?

I was talking to Assassin_M

I think it was clear i was just joking around and taking the opportunity to show that manly fanart of a Scottish Assassin that i found the other day, and, no offense Free_Hidings, but new threads to show how amazing a Japanese setting would be, are open pretty much ever single day, the topic have already been discussed to death and there are specific threads for posting suggestions like that.

I have been using the internet for quite some time and never even once found any evidence that the internet is a serious place! http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff286/nfforums/NF%20smilies/Quite.gif

"Literally" is not always "Serious" See ?? That`s why I said point it out...

If they went for Japan, I'd say the Ba***atsu and the Meiji Restoration would be much better candidates. All the tension of that era, the end of the Sakoku because of the events with Commodore Perry and opening up trade with the west that could drive both Assassins and Templars to have more interest in Japan (Considering that it was pretty **** isolationist before that).

Arff, I don't know, it looks great but, it's not my style at all. Altough, maybe Ubisoft would make something epic with it but for the moment I'll prefer an Antiquity game that an Feodal Japan.

Oh haha. Yeah I know it's done to death, I am sure I have opened at least one thread about this before. If there are many others that agree and they are vocal on the forums, then the chance of it happening might increase.

I dunno, I think any era / setting they do will turn out great, but this is one I would reallly like to explore
