So THQ is busto and today there has been an auction where all their assets have been sold. Ubisoft has bought THQ Montreal (http://kotaku.com/5978429/this-is-the-letter-that-thq-sent-to-employees-today), where Patrice worked on the upcoming title "1666" (http://kotaku.com/patrice-desilets/). So what do you think, what will become of this ?

Yeah I hope he gets to finish his project according to plan. Assuming it was a historic game of some sort it would be nice to have an alternative to AC in this genre. I really hope the suits don't decide to shut him down, that would be a travesty :(.

Must be painful for Patrice. He left Ubisoft of his own accord, after all.

Makes me scared given all the complaints I have posted on this board :D! Ubisoft always finds you in the end. "Sushi sleeps with the fishes ".

Wouldn't be surprised if they attempted to rebrand it as a Assassins Creed title or entirely remove it. It looked increasingly like it was going to be a competitor to Assassins Creed, when Massive was purchased the World in Conflict brand was pretty much put on hold to ensure Tom Clancy Endwar got the advantage.

If they do that I'd get seriously pissed. I guess that is how business works, but that would just be too ******y. I might have to go into boycott mode if that happens (not that anyone would care what I do lol).

Well, this is certainly awkward. Keep in mind too that there's no guarantee that Ubisoft even wants Patrice himself or are going to offer to extend his employment as the new owners of his studio. They may just want the IP for themselves and even look to repurpose it as a future Assassin's Creed game without Patrice's involvement. Or they may just want to shut down the whole project and are simply paying to keep a potentially competing brand out of the market.

No matter what Ubisoft's plans are, I feel bad for Patrice and the other people that left with him to join THQ. They're either about to be out of a job or stuck right back into an environment they had intentionally left. If they're offered employment by Ubisoft and don't want to rejoin the company, their alternative is abandoning a project they've been working on for a year and a half while another company swoops in and changes it to suit their own whims.

well if 1666 were to be a rival to AC, then it would be a good idea to keep it separate from AC, i imagine owning a game and it's rival to be very profitable.

I can already see 1666 becoming Assassin's Creed IV or V.

I'm already not sure about AC4, and Watch Dogs was going to be my new Assassin's Creed, but if this happens, I will join you in boycott mode.

All I know is in the link in the OP. Since "1666" sounds like a year and because Patrice is involved, the speculation is that it's a histiorical game, maybe similar to AC. But I don't think anyone knows.

That and I'm not sure he's even interested in it nor if they will actually let him do it.

Just amazing. If I could only go back in time to June of 2010 when I was crying myself to sleep over the loss of Patrice Desilets and tell myself that someday in 2013 Ubisoft will buy him back. I would have felt much better. I would have left out the part of how AC will gradually start circling the drain in the mean time. Looks like Ubisoft will be getting a lot more of my money now since I intend on purchasing the stick of truth and I already want 1666 and I know nothing about it.

This is... I really don't know what to think about it. I mean Patrice coming back to Ubisoft that's what I was hoping for from the moment he left, but to be honest,in my scenario it was a bit different: Ubisoft on their knees begging him to return. This is certainly not what I expected. Wasn't the reason why he left in the first place that he didn't want to work for Ubi anymore? I doubt he's happy about coming back, especially after he's seen what they did to his precious AC since he had left.

This thread was made several hours before your thread (check the timestamps). The title is an imitation of tabloid type headlines. It was meant as a joke, sorry if I offended anyone.
