Dear Champions,

Please find below the rules to the Aza404 Cup tournament hosted on Duel of Champions and the English forum.

Every participant is asked to post his name on the proper forum thread in order to apply for the tournament. The 48 first players to apply will be entered in the Aza404 Cup. The tournament is open to all players.
Once the application deadline is over, the team will place all participants into 4 groups of 5 players.

Round 1: Every player will then be asked to duel against every other player in his group once (5 duels per player). The winner must post a screenshot on the forum: The winner will get one point every time for every victory.
Round 2: The 2 players with the most points from each of the 4 groups at the end of round 1 will get to go to round 2. Here the 8 players will be placed in 2 groups of 4 and asked to repeat the process. The duels will be played in a Best of 3 format. Winning 2 or 3 duels against the same player will still count as 1 point!
Round 3: The 2 players with the most points at the end of round 2 will go into the final stage of the tournament. They will be paired up and asked to duel in a Best of 5 type match in the semi-finals, then a best of 5 for the two finalists.

Points at the end of rounds 1, 2 and 3 are not cumulative from one round to the next.
.

Once the initial groups are formed for round 1, every participant must add his opponents as in-game friends and take part in friendly duels against them. The winner of each duel must then provide a screenshot of the victory on the appropriate forum thread.
If you cannot agree on an appropriate time for the duel or don’t send in the victory screenshot both players will get 0 points for that match-up. If you have tried to contact your opponent, have not got an answer from him by the deadline for that round, just send me a quick message on the forum explaining the situation. If I don't get an answer from your opponent, you'll be declared winner.
If an error occurs (Bloomberg or disconnect etc.), the duel should be repeated as long as the player who encountered the error provides a screenshot with it in the game. If a player does not provide the screenshot, the game is classified as a defeat for the player who had the error and his opponent will be declared winner.
When they enter the tournament, players are committing to being present at the appointed dates.
Players are also committing to sending in the result screen as proof of victory.
Only one account per player is allowed to enter. We will be doing checks and any player who has tried to cheat his way to the top will be disqualified and banned from any future tournament.
.
Do not hesitate to ask below if you have any questions.

Best,
Aza

The life rule is very bad, IMHO. Using it for tiebreakers wouldn't be so bad, but alas. I hope that will not be used again.

Still, good initiative - GLHF.

If it won't be after fortunes fix then it's bad. :X

What about deck shifting/card shifting during the tournament.

I would llike to know if the tournament will start after or before the fix (Throne, Prison, Crystal cavern) as well. I just don't want to participate to a boring "Throne & Tower" tournament.

01-23-2013, 04:10 PM
Hi guys,

YES, you can change your deck as you see fit throughout the tournament.
NO, it will not be starting until the fix. I'm just planning it in advance so we can start it as soon as possible.

Best,
Aza

So I can totally switch my deck types between duels? I don't know if I like it. xd

Just to make sure - me and my wife we both are playing the game (of course from 2 different accounts). Can we both paticipate? We login sometimes from the same laptop and sometimes from different laptops (but again from the same place so I guess IP would be the same) - would it be a problem?

@C4r-n4ge: as long as we're warned, it's all fine :)

Fine, now I have to create wife imediately  :D
OK jokes aside: I'm in!
(such post counts as registration post?) found registration thread, sorry...

By the way, question about deadlines: how many days we have for a round?

Aza404
01-23-2013, 06:17 PM
I'll probably give it 4/5 days per round. We're not in a rush like we were on the DreamHack championship, so we can take things slowly and adjust as we go.

It is a shame that you will take only 48 people WHO POSTS FIRST!!!

It should be done by taking first 48 people who post here and have highest personal ELO ingame ... that would give u skilled playerbase, reason for people to play competetive duels until deadline and overall higher level of tournament.

Either change the rules or increase the number of people who participate ... or make smt like " half of spots are assigned to highest elo players who posts and want to participate "

Anyway I want to be in !

Aza404 said that participants will be divided in regions. I, for exemple, will be in the FR tournament, not the UK and so I will not count in the participants here.

One of the most ridiculous things in a while. I seriously disagree, tournament organization goes pretty much the same for any game and if you weren't checking the forums that's only shame on you.

On the other note, it took only about a day or two to fill up, which doesn't leave much space for casual players/people with restricted web access.
Not sure that is a bad/unwanted thing & not sure if there's a better way of singing up.
Just sayin'

It's a choice either way.
This one rewards frequent forum activity. I don't see the problem, seems like something one would want to encourage, and it's not arbitrary.

If there is a time limit given for signing up and a cap on participants number the logical conclusion imo is to choose by random from all who signed up untill the 4th of february.

@Truekill: If you have tried to contact your opponent, have not got an answer from him by the deadline for that round, just send me a quick message on the forum explaining the situation. If I don't get an answer from your opponent, you'll be declared winner.

About the Entries thread: we're splitting the tournament into 4 according to language. Hopefully this will give everyone a chance to participate.
Once they have entered, if there are more players than tournament spots, players will be chosen randomly in the list in order to give all players a fair chance of taking part whatever their rank or forum awareness may be.

Small change in the rules: remaining health points will no longer be used for the final score. Every victory will earn you 1 point.
This way magic heroes with 18 health points will not be disadvantaged.

Good to see.
You should consider giving more points for game losses than no-show, that way people have incentive to duel even if they think they cannot win at all.

Due to the smaller number of participants, the different rounds have been changed:

Round 1: 4 groups of 5. Only the 2 best players of each group will go to round 2.
Round 2: 2 groups of 8 players. Only the 2 best players will go to round 3.
Round 3 (Semi-finals): The 4 final players will play Best of 3 duels to determine the finalists.
Round 4 (Finals): The 2 finalists will play Best of 5 duels to determine the winner!

as far as I understand we are free to change decks between duels as we want?

Since you closed the thread about [Entries] I'll post this here. Here's a quote of what you said:

Dear Champions,

Entries close on Friday 1st at 11pm!

Best,
Aza

Next time double check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-hour_clock when posting a time. ;)

You have closed the entries 12 hours ago, while your post suggests the deadline is approximatly now. That is..... if you mean 'my' timezone. Or did you mean Canadian timezone? Or Chinese? :p

Just sayin' to be more accurate when posting a time. Thanks!

Were you trying to gain an edge over your enemies by throwing them off their tune through last minute entry?

Serious face - yeah, you (as Aza) seem to be having troubles with times not only in this case :P

Just a minor question: deck swap(s) are allowed (I guess)? Because there are no means to track whether your opponent has made changes or not.

r3tsa
02-09-2013, 08:54 PM
You could always force one faction/hero per player, but yeah there is no way to control sidedecking.

Aza404
02-10-2013, 10:15 PM
There is no rule against deck swapping, so it's allowed.

Best,

Semi-finals and finals will be in a Best of 5 mode!
