Sorry I only recently heard that finally we will be getting Spitfires in IL2. And why not? I hear you ask. Afterall we've got pretty much every other plane that served in WW2 and some that saw little if no action on the Eastern Front yet thus far.........no Spitfires. I mean its not like it was crap or anything is it? Its not like its an ugly mother or something and its not like it didn't serve on the Eastern Front or anything or serve with distinction from Sevastopol ot Leningrad (especially Leningrad) so why the wait? Why did we have to wait for so long? Will it be modelled correctly?

Just interested. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Check a retail shop where you normally buy your software for a release date.

For me here in Holland it says 19-02-2004.

So far no final list of planes and goodies have been presented yet.

The ones I am looking forward too are the Spitfire V and the P-38.

Here is some info on it: http://store.ubi.com/item.jsp?item=008888681786

The V1 Buzbomb will also be available in the Ace expansion.

Too bad we have to wait for the plane patch to hunt them down since the only planes that could catch them where the Spit MKXIV and the Tempest V.

I know, but I am in a RAF Squadron and I build mission flown during WWII from mission debriefings we obtained some time ago and somehow I cannot fit a Mustang in that picture.

From what I've read.........

The British Meteor jet was faster than any allied aircraft in ww2....even faster than the Spitfire...and the Mustang....and the FW 190...and the bf109....

...so therefore it will never be included or considered for FB?

I would like to see a Meteor in this game, but so far nobody is modelling one.

Didn't some dude offer Kev $3000 to model one?

Hmm, although the ki 43 seems to be his focus at present.

Didn't know the Meteor was ready for duty during WW2. Must have been a very late WW2 plane though, as the 262 (world's FIRST jetfighter to enter serial production) only came around '44 I think.

As I read it the 262 and the Meteor came into service within a few months of each other they just never met in combat. Don't know why.

"The first operational jet fighter squadron was No. 616. It was given a detached flight of seven Meteor F.Mk Is when it moved to Manston, Kent in July of 1944. RAF Flying Officer Dean claimed the first V-1 to be destroyed by a jet fighter. After all four of his guns jammed, he used his wing tip to push the V-1 nose-first towards the ground."

I remember reading about a P-47 pilot who tipped a V-1 over with his wingtip & fired at it with his guns to take a gun camera picture. It blew up & nearly killed him because he was too close.

Cap/Biggs, the Spit that managed a controlled Mach 0.91 in compressibility trials was a Mk.IX I believe. Not too shabby.
