I love il-2 and all that goes with it but I would rather have seen a B24 or some Dorniers than loads of flyable jets.Would be better for mission building.Anyone else in the same mind?

No we all actually want odd-ball planes in the game. Oleg knows this so he has prevented 3rd party modelers from making bombers and other planes that actually flew in combat. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Couple of factors to consider chris,

1. Bombers take a lot.. no, a LOT of work.

2. Moreover, most of the models in the AEP were built by 3rd party modelllers (not employed by maddox games) a maddox simply bought their models. If no modellers build bombers - there are no bombers.

There are some in the works though.. b25 and a20 should be rumbling along in the next couple of months.

Not only do they take loads more time to do - the data for the gunners positions etc is very much harder to find too.

And as far as I know the 3rd party modelers ARE NOT PAID at all - they can give their models to 1C:Maddox - not even then are they sure they will be in the game, because 1C:Maddox has to do the flight behaviour model and if there is no data about that - well you get it ....

Thanks for your answers.I know that bombers take like tonns of work and that its unlikely well see the B24 but what im trying to say is that I think the B24 etc are more relevant to ww2 than say the He126 jet thing.Even if the B24 was AI only that would be great.
People are also now reffering to the sim as AEP and not il-2 fb which I find strange. All aep is,is an add-on which if you fly offline is not essential.
Was in a room the other night and there were 5 or 6 of these flying wing things going about which made for an uneven and pointless game.Did that many of these ac actualy fly during the war?Thats what im trying to say,I wouldnt like to see il-2 become a fantasy playground for experimental aircraft and jets.I know its called forgotten battles but I wouldnt want to see it become "obscure and irrelavent battles"!!!

The He-162 flew in combat. Do a google search for more information. Had Germany stayed in the war for, perhaps, a month longer, Allied pilots may have seen the Gotha in combat. The thing is, all these planes could potentially have made it harder for the Allies to defeat Germany in a reasonable timeframe. That is why I doubt you'll ever see the Ta-183 being modelled for this sim. While I like the early jets, I would love to see someone put a B-24 or a Beaufighter in the sim.

Your right about the 162 though, but how many and hew would have flown them?By the end of the war the luftwaffe had a cronic shortage of combat experianced pilots.A bunch of hitler youth in a handful of 162s would not change history.
