Hi,
I found this photo of an I-15, to me it looks identical to the I-153 except for fixed gear. Does anyone know the details of this plane, performance vs Gladiator etc.? Go here for photo:

google it--spell "polikarpov" correctly. You will learn that is not a "I~15" (somebody lied, and somebody believed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

I~15 had gull wing like I~153. That thing is I~152, also called I~15bis (improved)...so I guess one could say it is "I~15" but its not.

Polikarpov made the gull wing of I~15 to improve forward-up view (compare flying I~153 gull wing with J8A or CR~32 and see why). Pilots Whined about the gull wing restricting view to the side-forward. Like Oleg, Polikarpov yielded to the Whining and made I~152 (your pic) with regular biplane wing, and the Whining only increased as the forward-up view was as bad as usual planes like J8A and CR~32. Having learned his lesson about listening to pilot Whiners, Polikarpov made the I~153 and returned to the gull wing for better forward-up view (more important in a turning fight than forward-side view).

Here is I~15, a rare pic in SPAIN...just like I~153 you cannot see through the area between fuselage and upper wing when looking from the side--you can see through this when looking at I~152--and the plane in your pic. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Thanks Lex,

Very interesting! I wonder how much the fixed gear affected to performance?

I am reading Saburo sakai's book and he said alot about the I-15 in China. I though maybe he had the name wrong and it was the I-153, I didn't know it was just a fixed gear version http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Nice pic BTW.
