View Full Version : Something overlooked?

I posted this in ORR and it hasn't generated a lot of interest. All they talk about in ORR is flight model and not much else (yawn).

It simply is a modified 'track playback' screen with a couple of new switches.

With a track screen like this you would be able to switch off icons and in-game chat for the purpose of having a track playback without the ugly clutter off icons which for the most part are needed as a visual aid, but not something you want to see on a playing track.

http://www.appy55.dsl.pipex.com/FB/trackwish.jpg

I'm sure movie makers like Davinci, Mysticpum2003 and ST_Pawnee to name but a few would be interested in this??

What I would like to do is join online servers and compile a movie of some great dogfighting moments, but I like many people use icons as a visual aid and as yet can't remove them from tracks.

Do you think something like this could/should be implemented or is FM the only thing that get's modified in FB?

If anyone knows a way in which you can disable icons on a track that has icons could you share it with us?
Pressing the key assignment that changes icon settings does nothing to a pre-recorded track.
Would changing icon and chatbox settings in conf.ini help or are these settings overidden by settings stored in the track file...?

I would appreciate any help available.
Thanks and regards

quite a good idea i feel

although all my tracks are made offline - wit no icons so i wouldn't really use it - however it would beuseful to turn off speed bar and "flaps up" type messages.

so someting like that would be useful

what i would also really like to see is my dear .trks once again /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Yup Scrag. Nail on the head and all that. Seems that if a bolt is not in the correct panel of the FW or BF 200+ postings are made with historic factuality pointing to the fact the refractive index of the paint made the bolt 'invisible' and that......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

This ability to switch off the icons on playback would be so useful, and it really should be implemented now. I too would like to know if this is possible though at the moment, but your screenshot tells it like it should be...Keep the faith, the IL2 movie lovers need this option.

I already made a reply to this in the ORR, saying maybe there's some way to hack this in.

I just opened up one of my track files in a text editor.

As I guessed, the files are just the mission file for the track if applicable, plus what's either recorded stick input or some interpreted way of representing plane positions. I don't know if this also holds for multiplayer online recorded trks since I don't have any handy with multiple planes in 'em.

There's a section just above the stick input recording which might be the flags used to record the mission:

[$$$record]
103
193791
500.0
150.0
350.0
30.0
0.0
35
3
5263993378826979166

Anyone know what that is?

Think you're on to something there /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I may try a few experiments by copying a track file modifying some of the data, particulary the lower numbers like the 3 as I think icons have 3 or 4 settings (?) then resaving and playing back the modified track. It will either work or it won't...

I think it's worth investing the time...

I'll let you know of my results.

What did you use to open it up BTW? Notepad?

If your going to be editing text files, download an eval copy of Editplus. It knocks the pants off Notepad.

(Although I think Notepad is the kinda app that doesn't wear pants)

To get rid of icons or HUD displays from recorded tracks just go in to the conf.ini file.

Under [game], make these changes:

NoSubTitles=1
NoChatter=1
NoHudLog=1
iconTypes=0

When you play back the track, icons, chatter, speed bar etc. will be gone. Of course you can already turn off Inflight Messages just by toggling the switch on the panel.

As far as removing the chat text from online tracks, I'm not sure.

Edit: The above worked in IL2 (I did it many times to create different intros to the game) but doesn't appear to in FB. Puzzling??

Hi,

I think your best bet, rather than changing entries willy-nilly, is to:

Set up a QMB scenario,

Save it,

Unplug your joystick,

Fly about for a few seconds,

End mission, hit save track.

Do this a few times with different conf.ini and difficulty settings selected, then 'diff' or do some other form of file compare on 'em.

Of course, if you wanted to, you could just change things and see what happens. But it might be an additive or octet thing, rather than just number = flag.

Mysticpuma.

I thought maybe my memory was failing me so I went back to original IL2 to try it out. It still works there so I was not imagining it. Changing the conf.ini would over-ride any in-game settings and remove all the clutter, even from previously recorded tracks.

What purpose is served by changing it in FB?

There is no purpose to it Chadburn /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
Don't know why they felt they had to change it.

As for changing the data in single mission recorded tracks or QMB tracks, well there must be some sort of checksum verification.
If you try and playback a track that you have modified with notepad, FB says that the track has been modified and won't playback.
Which is a real shame because I'm sure I found the number which is the setting for icons /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I feel quite sad about this because I don't think we are going to be listened to. I think the developers just don't see it as being important, and are only concerned with historical data and performance of aircraft.

Not that this isn't important but I just think they are being blinkered by it and not exploring other areas of the game that need improvement.
