I reproduce here an extract from the forum terms of service:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RULES OF CONDUCT
In addition to the limitations set forth above, you will violate the Terms of Use if you in Ubi's sole discretion (or others using your Account) do any of the following:

Post, transmit, promote, or distribute Communications or content that is illegal.

Harass, threaten, embarrass, or stalk or cause distress, unwanted attention or discomfort to another Member or Guest.

Post content or send Communications of any form impugning someone's race, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, political beliefs, or ethnic heritage.

Transmit or facilitate distribution of content or Communications that are harmful, abusive, racially or ethnically offensive, vulgar, sexually explicit, obscene, defamatory, infringing, invasive of personal privacy or publicity rights, or in a reasonable person's view, objectionable.

Post or communicate "Hate speech."

Organize or form or attempt to organize or form any groups online and/or among other Members or Guests based on slanderous or hate philosophies.

Modify any part of the Sites and/or Software without the prior written consent of Ubi.

Disrupt the flow of chat in chat rooms or within Software that include chat functionality with vulgar language, abusiveness, hitting the return key repeatedly or inputting large images so the screen goes by too fast to read, use of excessive shouting [all caps] in an attempt to disturb other users, or flooding [posting repetitive text].

Impersonate another person (including celebrities), impersonate a Ubi employee or a representative of Ubi, attempt to mislead users by indicating that you represent Ubi or any of Ubi's partners or affiliates.

Attempt to interfere with, hack into or decipher any transmissions to or from Ubi servers or otherwise acquire a password, street address, credit card numbers, account information, or any other private information from a Member or any other user on the Sites.

Give false information or intentionally hide any information that is required by the Sites or the Software.

Share your account password with anyone and/or sell or otherwise transfer your account to anyone.

Do not follow the instructions of authorized personnel on the Sites.

Upload or distribute any software or content that you do not own or have permission to freely distribute.

Promote or encourage any illegal activity including hacking, cracking or distribution of counterfeit software.

Upload files that contain a virus or corrupted data.

Post Communications for any purpose other than personal communication, or transmit advertising, promotional materials, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or make any commercial use of our Sites.

Improperly use the in game support or complaint buttons or make false reports to Ubi staff members.

Violate the terms of use of third party tools, interactive service providers, state, local, federal laws, or foreign or international law where appropriate.

Falsify or delete any author attributions, legal or other proper notices or proprietary designations or labels of the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded.

Restrict or inhibit any other Member or user from using and enjoying the communication features on the Sites.

Sell or distribute, outside of the game, any element of the games including without limitation game's characters, names, weapons, objects, skills, virtual currency and other features.

Character names you may create in the Software and on the Sites are subject to the same rules and guidelines as other forms of in-game or Sites Communication in addition to any specific character naming policies specifically applicable to the games. In the event a character name does not conform to these guidelines, Ubi shall have the right to suspend and/or terminate your account, or at Ubi's sole discretion change the character names that do not conform to the guidelines.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are several key points in this that some of you appear to need reminding of:

These rules will be applied at Ubi's sole discretion.

You are required to follow instructions of authorised personel (moderators and admins) even if the instruction is not covered in the posted rules.

If a reasonable person objects to something, you may asked to remove it or it may be removed. Again this at Ubi's sole discretion.

Hate speech and derogatory comments are not permitted (this means flames too).

I suggest some of you re-evaluate your choice of avatar. Pleasant as they are, there are an awful lot of reasonable people in the world that object to "booby shots". I also remind you that the size limit for signature file size also applies to avatars.

Should anyone feel that the moderators may have missed a post, we can be contacted by Private Topic or you can use the little "Report this post" button (the little yellow triangle in the bottom right corner of each post).

I also remind you that you ALL agreed to these terms when you registered on the forum (even if you didn't bother to read them).

----------------------

Addendum: Signature size limits in the IL2 forums

Unfortunately signature sizes have got out of hand for some users.

Therefore the following rules will apply for signatures. Could everyone please check their signatures and ensure they meet these new guidelines.

- Limited to one image per signature or a short text.
- 400*200 maximum
- 30k maximum

These forums are visited by users with all types of connections and the current situation means that users on dial-up are waiting too long for signatures to download.

The moderators will ensure that these new guidelines are enforced

There seems to be a lot of people who are surpassing this size of 30K by a big margin. I d/led one pic that was 77KB. Also, the size of the pics in pixels are sometimes so big it makes the width of the post bigger than it should be.

I/m not on dial up but it's still a nuisance when I have to load mulitple pics that are 70K or bigger in size for no reason. Use your common sense, if you were on dial up, would you want to wait 5 min to load the 1 meg+ of pics in the bigger posts?

Some do have sigs over the limit. I have a slow modem and it doesn't help. Members, including myself, have posted non-sig pics higher in pixel count. I think its generally acceptable though I wish they would not post screen shots or pics that expand the page.

Bump!

There also are some sigs with seemingly small pictures that turn out to be animated gifs with several hundred KB download size. Please don't waste my time and money with that.

Once more the important part of the forum guidelines:

I live in a very remote area of Arizona and I would wager I have one of the most crap connections on the forum.

On a good day I get 18 or 20 kps, once it shot up to 22!

I don't have that much of a problem as I don't expect the DSL and cable people to cater to my slow a$$ed self.

The only times I get frustrated is when I see " Great new fabulous movie that will knock your socks off" I click the link, look at the MB's and mostly go ...forgetaboutit.

I think what me have to do is email the MOD's and copmplain they are not doing there job. The more people that do this, the more chance of getting action taken.

Problem is, the people who are doing it are most likely all on broadband and don't give a r at's (_O_) about anyone else. They need to be disciplined on this case.

You really can have a decent sized signature if you use good levels of JPG compression to image quality. It does look like I'm over the 30k limit but I was under the impression that this forums rules (the FB section) had a higher limit...something like 60kb. I thought I was under, to be honest...

Photoshop also helps alot in this respect http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Icefire, you are over by 9KB but it's not as bad as the ones who are over my more. Some of the animated icons are sometimes 150KB plus.

29.5KB. And it's the right size on the screen. The other problem we have is the pics are so huge on screen, that it add's to the length/width of the posts. 5 posts will run 3 scroll wheel slides which is overkill.

It would be nice if peoiple used common sense and redid all their sig's to meet the guidelines.
