View Full Version : Hurricane Sandy Halloween and Assassins Creed III

I'm on the east coast of the USA, and Tuesday, the 30th is when Hurricane Sandy is projected to hit our area. That's not stopping me from getting ACIII. I'm putting a sign on my door that says "No Candy" so the kids don't bother me on halloween. Nothing is stopping me from playing ACIII! (Unless Sandy knocks out the power!)

Only way Sandy's stopping me from playing is if power gets knocked out and my gamestop closes

Nothing is stopping me... My Gamestop is still on schedule for Midnight opening and I`m bloody READY !!

This is what I posted in the MP board:I'm from NH so one way or another we will get hit. But, I don't care if my house was under the eye wall nothing is going to stop me from getting the game. Though losing power will stop me from playing.

Hurricane party! Nachos and beer at my hoose.

Hopefully the hurricane breaks up in time for Tuesday.

I hope it heads the way of the sea but not likely. My store said today they plan on a midnighter near DC but it's all up in the air at this point so I'll be there waiting unless otherwise. Just to be sure I'll call Monday and nobody will probably pickup the phone.

Stay safe all.

Now I'm starting to regret buying from a Gamestop that's in the middle of a highway, I don't bother with a sign on Halloween I just turn out a few lights and don't answer the door.

You all need to get a backup generator just In case Sandy does blow your power out! That would be dedication.

It would be funny if you're in middle of saving the game to your HDD and the power goes out and your system gets corrupted... Lol

Yeah, I've mentioned it before and will again... This storm is not stopping me from going to get this game on Monday night. I got lucky enough to have off work that night, and hopefully I'll be lucky enough to still get a copy without GameStop closing! This hurricane literally has the WORST timing ever haha.

10-28-2012, 01:13 PM
Well some good news for me. They are saying that most of it is now going to hit on Monday and stop around 4:00am Tuesday. So I wont get it at midnight but I will try to get it on sometimes Tuesday.

I also live on the East Coast, but I'm much to far inland for it to affect us (South Carolina). I think we get the remnants of the hurricane in the form of heavy rains every so often, but nothing major.

I live in central New Jersey so I'm crossing my fingers that the power doesn't go out. I already have Tuesday and Wednesday off work for AC3 so the hurricane timing is fine with the exception of power. I live two minutes from my gamestop but the midnight release sounds like some nasty weather and I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled it.

Chissy123

Sadly the storm is set to hit here and possibly take out the power lines. I am hoping that they are wrong because I really want to play AC3!

It sucks :/ I live on Long Island so I'm crossing my fingers that I can still play on Tuesday. Already took off from work for it!! Was considering buying a small generator to power up the necessities (TV and Box) ;) but i might not even lose power....so idt ill do it xD

We're diehard fans. A lot of us have been waiting for this game since ACII.

Anywho, I'm in Virginia, but the worst we get is heavy showers, and occasionally the power will go out for a second before coming back. I'm not worried.

Exactly. It's been a long wait so to lose power on release is just really bad timing lol

My Ubiworkshop edition has been sitting in Philadelphia for a couple of days and has finally scanned for departure. I figured it was going to hugely delayed (understandably!) by Sandy. Not sure why its gone that way on its journey to the UK anyway, but I guess UPS have their reasons.

Guys, I'm sorry to tell you that if you live anywhere near the East coast, you will likely lose power.

I don't know if you've been paying attention, but this is going to be the worst storm in our lifetimes. Millions without power for weeks. NYC partially flooded. Please get out.

Hurricane Sandy, that explains all the wind we've been getting the last couple days down here in Miami.

I thought there was just a tropical storm out there, didn't realize it was a hurricane now.

We aren't the full brunt, New York, New Jersey and D.C. will be getting that. Here in VA we are going to get the outer bands but still will getting tropical storm gusts 60+. I'm hoping we don't lose power but who knows.

It's not a C5, only a C1, but we normally don't get Hurricanes this deep in the season. Added to that you have a cold front that is going to meet it and they say it will make things worse, not being a meterologist I'm not sure how.

In any case, even with Tropical Force winds it can cause havok and damage.

I don't think Irene was even classified as a hurricane yet the pictures I posted above were the results. That was just a snap shot as well, as there were trees that big down every half mile or so. I don't think being used to it has much to do with it.

I feel like the media is blowing this out of proportion but its probably going to be bad because the hurricane is combining with a cold front from Canada and some storm from the west and apparently there is a full moon so its going to be worse. Also to make things worse is that the hurricane is going to hit Pennsylvania right around the time this game comes out. Hopefully i will be able to make it to gamestop and back before the storm hits

my dad does insurance for natural disasters and hurricanes in particular. he said that while it was going to be a bad storm the media are making it seem much worse than it is. now he doesn't do forecasting so he's no expert. but he's been in the business long enough to know when a storm is bad or not. so don't use this as proper advice. don't change any of your plans based on this comment, but the media is making it seem worse.

My prayer goes out to those that will be affected by Sandy. I live in Michigan myself the UP. And they say that there is a possibility that we will lose power as well so if we do, I will end up alongside those of you with no chance to play some AC3 for a while. But my prayer goes out to you guys. Hope you all make it through just fine and dont suffer much damages or none at all. Dont worry, AC3 will be right there waiting for you to take the fight to the redcoats afterwards.

here are some safety tips just in case:

1. Stay away not only from standing water, but also do not attempt to drive your vehicle through them (even if you have a 4-wheel drive).

2. Please also avoid any down power lines of any kind. Don't touch them in any way shape or form. People have been electrocuted by touching down power lines before.

3. Avoid areas where there is flying debris. The winds can change directions at anytime, and flying debris can hurt bystanders even fatally.

4. Don't go to the beach to watch the surf. Nature doesn't care if you are a "bystander".

5. If the authorities tell you to boil your water before drinking it, boil it. Hunker down if you live in a good building that is on higher ground.

6. If you live in a flood plain and have been flooded in the past, don't try to be brave if the water starts rising. Go to the emergency shelters.

7. Please also check on your neighbors especially the elderly. Make sure that they have enough of their medication on hand.

8. Put wooden or plastic outdoor furniture in your pool or inside with other loose items.

If you live in the path of the hurricane and it has not reached you, but is on its way,

a. Check with your city council or your building control authority to see if your home has been built to hurricane standards.

b. Check that the walls, roof and eaves of your home are secure.

c. Trim treetops and branches well clear of your home (get appropriate permission).

d. Preferably fit shutters, or at least metal screens, to all glass areas.

e. Clear your property of loose material that could blow about and possibly cause injury or damage during extreme winds.

f. In case of a storm surge/tide warning, or other flooding, know your nearest safe high ground and the safest access route to it.

g. Prepare an emergency kit containing:

** a portable battery radio, torch and spare batteries;
** water containers, dried or canned food and a can opener;
** matches, fuel lamp, portable stove, cooking gear, eating utensils; and
a first aid kit and manual, masking tape for windows and waterproof bags.
** essential medications,
** warm clothing and baby formula/diapers/
** pet food

h. Keep a list of emergency phone numbers on display.

i. Fill vehicle fuel tanks and park vehicles under solid shelter..

j. Ensure household members know which is the strongest part of the house and what to do in the event of a hurricane warning or an evacuation.

k. Tune to your local radio/TV for further information and warnings.
If things are about to get really dicey, make sure that you pack critical important papers, photos and mementos in waterproof bags to be taken with your emergency kit. If If going to a public shelter, take bedding needs and books or games for children, and if you cannot take your pets, please make sure that they have plenty of food and water.
Pack an evacuation kit of warm clothes, essential medications, baby formula, nappies, valuables, important papers, photos and mementos in waterproof bags to be taken with your emergency kit. A battery powered radio is also very useful.
Please remember to (i) TURN OFF and disconnect all electrical and other appliance, (ii) turn off gas and water, and (iii) lock doors before leaving for emergency shelters, Wear strong shoes (not sandals) and tough clothing for protection.
When the hurricane strikes and if you are in your house/apt:

A. Disconnect all electrical appliances if you have not done so already. Listen to your battery radio for updates.
B. Stay inside and shelter {well clear of windows) in the strongest part of the building, i.e. cellar, internal hallway or bathroom.
Keep evacuation and emergency kits with you.

C. If the building starts to break up, protect yourself with mattresses, rugs or blankets under a strong table or bench or hold onto a solid fixture, e.g. a water pipe.

D. BEWARE the calm 'eye'. If the wind drops, don't assume the hurricane is over; violent winds will soon resume from another direction. Wait for the official 'all clear'.

E. If driving, stop (handbrake on and in gear) - but well away from the sea and clear of trees, power lines and streams. Stay in the vehicle.

good luck, i know most people will know this anyway but just in case

Like one member says, the news makes it sound stronger and dangerous than it appears.

When I lived in FL in the area supposed to be hit by Charlie, I stayed in the house which was close to the shore and the weather constantly says that its gonna hit and so on. At the last minute, Charlie turned and missed us just to hit a city above us. They said his wind will be strong enough to do some serious damage to a house. Ends up only destroyed the mobile homes and did serious damage to the city above us. So like I said, dont ALWAYS believe what the news say. Sandy could turn south or continue north or go into tropical before it hits. Anything can happen

i don't get immediately intimidated by the name 'sandy'. it's not a name that strikes fear into me. it makes me think the storm is an australian woman sitting by the beach with her friends
That's sterotipical, most australian women are just idiots, and like most austrliajn men, me not included.

Well I have had no power for the last two hours in central new jersey and no answer at the GameSpot by my house so I'm guessing no midnight release. not that I could play the game anyways.

Hopefully power will be restored tomorrow.

So we had a power surge last night and it fried my graphics card and only my graphics card (god my resolution is terrible right now). Just the outer fringes of Sandy and already causing damage. Now I have to fork over a bunch of cake to get a new one. Think I'm going to go with this one (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-DisplayPort-Graphics-012-P3-1571-KR/dp/B004L9LT24/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1351537163&sr=8-2&keywords=nvidia+570gtx).

Anyone think it's stupid for them to open at 10 during the week and 9 on the weekend? It should be opposite. Plus one less hour we have to wait.

It's going from Alantic City straight to Philadelphia. So I think we got it far worse. (not as bad as Alantic though)

I still have my internet thank god. But you can hear the wind here and it seems like it's shaking my house. I keep hearing slaming noises but can't tell if something is hitting my house or not. I hope (though unlikely) UPS is delivering tomorrow. They are saying that the worse is not here yet. I truely hope nobody gets hurt.

Midnight release was canceled :( was going to get a physical copy of Liberation's, but I'm so impatient I'm going to download it through the ps network, and get my money back from gamestop...From what I've seen of the mp I'm not really missing out on anything with the extras. I only hope I'm wrong and that the mp is at least a basic version of the console mp. I hope the youtube video I seen was a count down of some sort. I guess I'll fine out shortly

Thus far 4.1 million without power on the east coast. I live in Michigan in the UP so we might get power outage as well. Who knows. They say it wont be till tomorrow night for the whole thing to settle and Wednesday to figure out the whole situation. So far Manhattan is flooded with Staten Island as high as house attics. New York City WTC Construction Site flooded and the subway system is also flooded. So far 5 deaths related unless there was more that I didnt see. There was a massive transformer explosion in Manhattan earlier tonight.

We are looking at years and years worth of damages/fixtures. So yeah NYC is in a TERRIBLE spot. My thoughts goes out to the victims and to my family in Virginia and West Virginia..

Still have no power. An enormous 20+ foot branch got ripped from one of my trees and landed on my power line. All we could do was watch for two hours as the gusts blew it around and finally it came off and left the line still up. I called electric company but I'm not an emergency right now. My whole neighborhood is still without power. What a pain.

At least no one was hurt around here as far as I know.

It would be funny if you're in middle of saving the game to your HDD and the power goes out and your system gets corrupted... Lol

Ugh. Don't even joke about that. It looks like I'm not gonna get it until Wednesday at the latest. See, I can't drive and NJ Transit is closed for the day, at least. Oh well. I've waited a year, one or two more days won't kill me...I think...

Yeah, New York and New Jersey got the brunt. It's going to be a LONG time before they things cleared up and back to normal.

On a brighter note, in my part of VA we didn't get anything but some flooding in low areas. Gamestop will be open at 10:00 a.m and I'm picking up my game and then I have to be at work by Noon.

I am really feeling the love, guys! Fortunately I was lucky. Did you see the Atlantic City Boardwalk?! We didn't loose power, no flooding. (South West New Jersey) But like I posted earlier, I don't drive and NJ Transit is still closed today. I REALLY hope I can get it before the weekend...

P.S. reading the posts, and so many people are saying that it wasn't going to be as bad as the weather man says, That's how you get stranded, people! If this was like Irene, I'd still be glad I prepared. I heard a quote on the news "Sandy is New Jersey's Katrina." I didn't get the brunt of it, but I was ready to.

I don't see playing this game any time soon. Still have no power and last I heard for my township in central NJ is 7-10 days. I sure hope that is a worst case scenario. I had today scheduled off work to play, but instead I am in the office. At least there is power here. But in the end this is just a game, too many people lost possessions, houses and lives.
