I keep hearing a lot of talk regarding the OICW and how the model without the grenade launcher is better. Does the plain OICW without the GL have different gameplay characteristics? Just curious.

I have been having a lot of success with the SOCOM, but used to use the OICW quite a bit. I get the impression a lot of people frown on the OICW, but I am unsure why? Anyone know why?

Thanks,

The Squeasel

To The_Squeasel,

The OICW without the GL has a larger zoom and is able to carry sensors if you would like to have them.

Snipe (as ever) has hit the nail on the head. Losing the GL off the OICW makes the gunsight a bit better. I think it has a 5X zoom, instead of the 3x it has with the GL attached. Plus it allows you to carry other things instead. I don't often use the GL, I have to say.

I don't know about people frowning on the gun. I've heard people saying it's just not realistic, but most people in this forum seem to be big fans of it... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

i like the gun, you can randomly pepper bushes with grenades, plus they are magazine fed, unlike the m16/m203.
its also robust. its good at long and short range.

The OICW has the advantage of the GL, useful in taking out large waves of approaching enemies.
There is an advantage to the OICW w/o the GL, in terms of zoom on the scope.
I still prefer the OICW/GL. But to each his own!

If I want a good sight, I just take Astra. When you can pick the tangos off at the ranges you can with her SVD, you don't need grenades or rapid rates of fire! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

NO TAKE MUNZ WITH HIS MG3. TREES get knocked down, the enemies stay standing and the ammo gets used.

I normally have him in the squad - for some support when I need to lay down some serious firepower! I just prefer Astra, because, awsome as Dieter and his gun is, there're two problems: his stealth is low, and the sight on his gun is poor. I like to use the gunsight to spot enemies easier - I can never be bothered with switching to binoculars!

Personally I prefer the M4 SOCOM with granades. I think the OICW is an awesome weapon with the launcher. You can lay down a mini artillery barrage with it. But for me I think the SOCOM is the best all around weapon. I don't use a sniper anymore, instead I opt. for another rifleman equipped with the SOCOM. I consider it as going hunting.

did you know if you cant see an enemy in the bushes, use night vision. the enemy will light up green and he doesnt match the surroundings. then break open the frags!!

Yeah I read about that and tried it. It works well as it makes them glow. I wonder if that will work in real life?

Depends if you're using light amplification devices (which wouldn't really help you) or thermal imaging (which very definately would - unless the bush they were hiding was also at 36.9 deg C!) /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

maybe. just maybe, if we surrender we can win. then when they are in the red part of the threat detector, pick our guns up and shoot them. i know its against the geneva convention, but hey, you get to kill them.

my leathal weapon is bagpipes. max payne could do with them. as you can see.

I like the OICW but id rather use the carbines that you unlock for your dossier cause they are more powerful than the OICW but the GL does cary 6 rounds a clip so you can run into a room and lay total waste and still have a bunch of grenades left.

Gotta love the variety. I use the OCIW for the up close work just because I like to hang back from a building and knock on door #1 with grenade #1, then purge the interior of said building with grenade #2.

It all depends on what you're doing. Sniper guns are great to go solo with if there are some choke points that you can get some distance on and pick off the guys coming at you. Study the maps.

If you're urban, then always looking through that scope plain sucks. So in urban settings the SOCOM is fine, as is the OCIW, or 7.62.

If you like laying down some lead, as some others posted here, Munz is good with the MG3 (can't complain about the high rate of fire). In GRIT Munz gets an M240 (I think), but the other support gunner gets one with a 250 round clip. It's a great gun!
