Just wondering, I already have a Behringer UCG102 (http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCG102.aspx) Guitar-to-USB interface cable. Will this work (and I can buy RockSmith on the UbiSoft website for download), or is the RockSmith-supplied cable proprietary?

99% sure it's proprietary in that it acts as a ****le too. You need their cable

No, this doesn't work with RockSmith.

(assuming the word you spelled was d o n g l e) I have to wonder, because Ubisoft is planning on selling the downloadable copy of RockSmith WITHOUT the cable. That would be kind of pointless if the cable was proprietary.

I went looking for the original topic but can't find it. Another poster reported that the cable did indeed act as a don-gle - at the time (way back) we were discussing if there was anything special happening in the hardware or if it was software based and somebody had longled at the usb traffic and noted that it identified itself as rocksmith hardware (can't remember specifics now)
So if that's indeed the case I imagine steam will ship the cable in the post or something. Or maybe things will be different on PC. Who knows?

Figured the steam version was aimed squarely at current RS owners who want it on PC as opposed to newcomers. Besides, didn't they price the steam version at a big discount from the regular price?

Well maybe the discount is becasue they expect their PC customers to go buy a cable on Amazon or Gamestop or wherever. If that's the case then they're testing the enthusiasm of their potential customers somewhat :D

Dunno about any of that. They have two versions: one with a cable (must be shipped) and a download without the cable. $30 difference between the packages.

It's kind of funny how on the "cable not included" page you find the following copy/pasta from the original page:
"Every copy of Rocksmith includes a revolutionary 1/4 inch to USB cable, allowing your guitar or bass to be played through your video game console or PC."

Can I hold them to that promise? :D

I'm probably going to have to go with the RockSmith cable anyway. I can't get the ASIO drivers for the Behrenger to output to my HDTV using Windows 7. I can use the directsound drivers, but the latency is horrendous. Apparently this problem with outputting ASIO-driven devices is a deficiency in Win7, from what I can tell on the internet.
