I only recently noticed that there was the option for perfect settings in the game. I'm running WinXP, AMD 1500Xp CPU, 512Mb DDR Ram with a Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb Card. Will my machine handle it and if so how do I go about it?

In order to enable Perfect mode, you need to be running in OpenGL and have Stencil Buffer enabled. In the video options menu, select Custom and put everything to it's maximum setting. I don't believe the video options menu in Simple mode has the option to select Perfect setting, although I could be wrong.

As to how well it will run... Why don't you try and find out? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Without a full gig of RAM, you will not be happy unless the number of aircraft and ground objects is very low.

Not necessarily true. I have 512MB and I'm running FB on Perfect fine.
Although memory does appear to be a problem, online missions at least should run fine.

My advice: Try it and see for yourself.

You wont be happy with the frame rates. It will look really good because of the video card though.

Your 1500+ just doesnt have enough power. IL2 is a very cpu intensive game.

Might be time to make that 9800pro worth the investment and upgrade your cpu to a nice 2800+ barton. It will cost you less to do that than the 9800 cost, even if you have to upgrade mobo also.

Thanks for your responses. It actually works not too bad, the only problem seems to be stuttering when things are struck and explode. Not that a **** shot like me sees that all too often http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif Any suggestions as to why this may be happening?

More RAM will help a little - but your 1500 processor is going to be letting you down somewhat too...

Most people with your spec rig would back-off the vid settings to acheive a decent framerate.

Because as I said above, your frame rates are dropping way too low which will cause stuttering. Like watching a slide show.

Do a search for a proggy called fraps. Download and install it. Start it before playing FB and observe the frame rate counter. You will probably see regualar drops to 15fps or less with your setup in perfect.

You want to obtain 30fps+ at all times for a smooth game.

Perfect uses fancier (ie: harder on the vid card) explosion and flame effects. Your vid card can't keep up. You may find the same over water, particularly over shorelines, and in missions with lots of cloud.
