I believe it is a long-range fuel tank. I don't think it was ever used, instead the 110 used two smaller tanks under the wings to extend range.

The stars look photoshopped (rather crappily) to me.

Also - that stuka is dead. There is NO way he can pull out in time.
I did not catch the name - funny I was JUing the past week and many times I could not pull out in time.
You're absolutely right - UB code is kaputt. Here I put it on diff server.

Amazing!
That sums it up for me. These photos put things in retrospective so well. For a guy who spends hours on IL-2 this was a moving experience. It makes you feel the joy and pain of the people who fought that war.
Thank you so much for posting the link here

Sunburst; that's definitely a Fokker G.I there. Either a German one, or a Dutch one fighting those Ju-52's. Very, very interesting picture indeed.

looks like a P-47 prototype, or an experimental variant.

I'd hazard to guess it's an XP-72, XP-47J, or some other p-47 prototype variant.

BTW: The 110 with the large bulge under it is a Bf-110D1 I think.
It was a huge main fuel tank made of plywood and canvass covering IIRC. Heavy and draggy, someitmes failed to jettison. Was replaced by the D-2, with one smaller tank under each wing.
Similar to the G-2 we have now with wing tanks.
