It just got me thinking, all we ever see Connor dual wielding in combat is a Knife and a Tomohawk. I am actually beginning to get afraid that all combat will mostly focus on using these to weapons. Forgot pistols, I am talking about hand to hand combat weapons. There are only 3 combinations I can think of.

Tomohawk and Knife
Knife and Knife
Hidden Blade and Hidden Blade

I don't see hidden blade and knife being a combo, although it isn't impossible. It just seems now that their is a lack of what we can actually dual wield, which also got me thinking on something else. The guys said that all the combat animations are new. At first we were all like "Wow that's actually really cool", but if you think about it, there is a lack of weapons to actually come up with new animations for.

In every video we have seen Connor always dual wields the knife and tomohawk. I am scared that the combat could get stale very quickly considering that their seems to be a lack of dual wielding combinations.

Thoughts?

I think you can use them solo too, and combination of hiden blade and dagger seems fine to me because eash one of those have difrent combat animation, and you forgot of tomahawk and hidden blade combination. And there maybe will be some dual wielding with SWORD and some of other wepons(tomahawk, knife, hidden blade)

Who knows if there will be swords. I thought swords were not used much in the American Revolution? At least, I haven't seen any guards with swords I don't think

There is a sword for the gamestop preorder and I think there is a mace of some sort for another version. But even if it was just the ones you mentioned then I would be happy.

I don't see how it's more restrictive now... We've always just had sword, knife, and hidden blade. Even if they give us the three combinations you listed, that's the same amount of choices we've always had.

I think the reason why we've mainly seen a combination of tomahawk and dagger (or pivoted Hidden Blade) is because, historically, that was a popular style of fighting among native Americans. The Ubisoft want to show Connor as he is naturally and the player gets to customise his style of fighting depending on their preferences.

Ah that is a good point!

Before we could only fight with the sword, dagger and hidden blade

Now we have all these combo to choose from

Plus we might have swords as well, ubi might not be showing that stuff so we can focus on the new stuff

Does anyone know if we have unarmed combat? as in fist-fighting.

We do not have any confirmation, but im sure there will be, seeing as they mentioned being able to go through the whole game without killing anyone, but your target..
I also don't see a reason to remove it..

I think it will be in, didn't they say that they wanted Connor to be more "Assassin" like and not just have a million weapons to use on enemies?

I kind of wish the rope dart was not scratched from combat. Sure, everyone would yell "Get over here!" but it diversified combat more. PLus you could easily minimize distance between you and a target in seconds.

Fist fighting was never shown but there is the "Fist Option", you can see it in the Boston Demo.

Um... the rope dart is still present in combat. Watch the very end of that Dev Diary thing they put out yesterday if you don't believe me. The thing they scrapped was a "chain blade" that Connor could sling around as a melee weapon. They removed it because it felt too fantasy-ish, but they replaced it with the rope dart, a one-time use item which can be used in limited functions like hanging people from trees or yanking someone closer to you in combat.

In combat there will atleast be the tomahawk, hidden blades, knives, swords, a war club (pre-order, but there will probably also be blunt weapons in the game) and hand to hand combat.
Then out of combat we also have various other tools for killing (and of course there's also on the move killing now) like the bow, musket, pistols and rope dart. It has also been sort of confirmed you can upgrade certain tools or weapons (and probably also get better weapons).

I think when compared to previous AC's we've got the same amount of weapons, they just haven't shown us a different set yet because of what RussellSparrow said (they want to show us a "default" Connor, in the actual game we can do whatever we want with him).

Also, did you guys see the blood when he punched someone in the inside Assassin's Creed 3: Episode one video? Looked very realistic with the amount and how it flew and landed on Connor.
Speaking of which: the next one will be about combat, so hopefully we'll see some new/more weapons there!

Even if the dual-wielding combinations are limited to tomahawk/dagger and dagger/dagger, or just tomahawk/dagger, then it doesn't necessarily mean we will be more restricted.

Swords are confirmed, war clubs and other blunt weapons are confirmed, hidden blades are obviously confirmed, short swords are confirmed, hand to hand combat is confirmed. Alongside your main weapons you have a tool available at all times, so there's even more variety due to that.

I suspect we'll learn more about the dual-wielding aspect of the game when the next dev diary is released. We don't actually know much about the ins and outs of combat yet.

I had ruled out this possibility when I saw that the bow was technically under the Tools section of the weapon wheel, but then we saw footage where he's running around with it in his hand in the commented Frontier video. So possibly, yes.

I think we wont be restricted there are soo many new weapons wich they revealed, and dont forgot that there will be new tools which they havent revealed.
