I've always had issues with the points system in IL-2, from the begining I couldn't understand why it's done this way.Is it at all possible to make changes to the way it's done. Please have a look at this thread in GD

This is one aspect of the game where it seems to constantly change with each update but is rarely addressed. If an aircraft makes it to home base, damaged,it has made it home nonetheless and should not award any points to the enemy(seems to be one of a few problems people are running into) I think going to a "kill/shared kill" system may also help with some of the arguments I've seen on-line. Any input from someone "in the know" would be greatly appreciated.

I can't even figure out how the scoring works. Somwhere I saw somebody say 1 kill = 100 points but what if he bails and then somebody else shoots him or he bails and his plane crashes and he lives or he bails or if you colide while shooting each other. Seems sometimes I'll shoot somebody down but wont get points other times I'll get points in the 10s. Sometimes I'll be like wow where did I get 300 points? I'm really confused...

IIRC:

Single engined kill: 100
Twin engined kill: 200
Four engined (or bigger?) kill: 400

Then multiply total score according to your fate:

successful RTB: x 1.0
Crash landed: x 0.7
Bailed: x 0.5
KIA: x 0.1

I think the last player to score damage gets the points for shot down planes.

I'm sure there is more, and please correct me if I'm wrong as thats from memory http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

As for someone getting points off of you after you land, there is an easy solution to this. Don't turn off your engine! Just come to a complete stop and click refly.

It has been this was since FB 1.0 but I still see ppl giving needless points away....

Dang, thats kinda complicated. I think I'm in agreement, it should be 1 kill = 1 point, regardless of circustance. Its probably meant to "add some depth" to the game. Blaghk!

Shutting down the engine doesn't result in a "crash land", you'll still get 100%. But you get less if...

70%
*crash land (gear broken) somewhere in friendly territory
*belly landing, even on airfields

50%
*bail over friendly territory and survive

10%
*killed
*shot down
*plane broken apart

*crash land with wing or tail ripped apart, but pilot survived
*successful landing on AF or anywhere else with either engine fried or just no fuel anymore, even if there's no (other) damage
*successful landing with smaller damages like aileron shot off, controls damaged, guns broken (any damage that lets a message show to the right) / if you just got some holes in the plane, but no certain parts are damaged, you still get 100%

what's off?? The last 3 I posted. The first one of them should still give you 70%. Man, you still live! Should only give 10% when pilot dies. The other 2 are really awkward. Why do I even try landing my plane safe and sound on my base by gliding it down perfectly because I'm running dry when I can get 5 times more score when just bailing out??? By bailing, I'll lose my plane. By gliding back to the base, it can be refilled with fuel and I can go on. Nothing that should cost me some score. Why is a successful landing with just a lesser damage like 1 aileron shot off scored as a crash/killed??? That makes no sense... lesser damage + successful landing should still give 100%. Bigger damage like wing or tail off should give 70%. Landings "in the green" should also give 70%, if the pilot survives, no matter if it's with gear on a road or with the left wing ripped apart during the touch down. Also, a belly landing on AF should just give 70%. Bail 50% is right, and dead 10%, too.

OK, this thread answered half of the questions I was going to ask. Now maybe one of you can help me with the other half....

What about scoring ground targets?

There was once a great document explaining the scoring process for both air and ground targets at Mudmovers.com but unfortunately the site crashed. (I knew I should've copied & pasted that text while I had the chance! Oh well.... live & learn....) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

If it's a simple case of last person to cause damage gets the kill, can it not be simply changed to award the person who causes the most damage the kill?
Seems more acceptable to me.

The general concensus is that a kill tally would be better than the current scoring system.

eg.

If the majority wants it, will they get it?
In respect of the scoring screen ('S'), could we also have aircraft type hidden as they were before?

I don`t think you can score in AEP. Not with current version, at least. Maybe you should try a bar full with chicks ? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

"We've got the finest tanks in the world. We just love to see the German Royal Tiger come up on the field".
- Lt. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. Febuary 1945.

"One day a Tiger Royal got within 150 yards of my tanks and knocked me out. Five of our tanks opened up on him at ranges of 200 to 600 yards and got 5 or 6 hits on the front of the Tiger. They all just glanced off and the Tiger backed off and got away. If we had a tank like that Tiger, we would all be home today."
- Sgt. Clyde D. Brunson, US Army, Tank Commander, February 1945
