have yet to figure out this ata gauge and get the most out of these 109/190's. in qmb, the ace g2-109 seems to have the manuverability of a a6m2 zeke, and a 190-a4 climbs like a bat out of hell..and i cant seem to figure out what ata it should be at to get these hellracious climb and speed rates..a4 walkin away from a 38-L around 4000 meters at 54" manifold. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

dont read books ore combat records and try to refly them offline vs AI - unfortunatly doesnt work in the most cases http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

To answer your question, 54" of Hg is real close to 1.8 ATA (the FW190A4 is limited to about 1.4ATA@2450RPM). Remember the FW190 has just shifted supercharger gears at 3000m or so and is really entering its 'power band'. I realize the P38 uses a turbo supercharger, and thus its 'power band' is constant all the way up, but that doesn't mean that it won't be outperformed at some altitudes by some aircraft. As to whether or not it should outrun an A4 at 4000m, I can't say. No doubt if you are testing against AI there will be some anomolies.
