In career mission I run out of amo so there was no reason to stay around. I engaged the autopilot with the result that it flew me to the enemy planes that neatly shot me down.
If I wan't the autopilot to fly home and land what should I do?

I don't think the autopilot will take you home unless all the fighters are destroyed. Even after they are gone it will still take you behind enemy lines just to hit any skipped waypoints. I just fly myself home with out autopilot.

Yep, it's a bit silly being able to tell your flight-group to 'go to next waypoint' from the menu, but not being able to do it yourself.

Even if FB just had a 'level flight' autopilot which didn't follow waypoints but kept height and direction, that would be an improvement. But I guess someone at Maddox figured that as those brave pilots couldn't answer the phone or make a cup of coffee, we shouldn't be allowed to either.
But at least those brave pilots could pee in their bottle! I have to climb to a safe height, trim and balance the plane as best I can (most planes in FB don't even have aileron trim now!!), run to the bathroom, pee all over the rim because I'm rushing, and run back to the controls hopefully before nose diving into the ground.

Heehee. I hope you're better at aiming your guns.

jfri, this really is just common sense, Man! When you hit autopilot it`ll just take you to the next waypoint. What you do is one of two things:
1. Make sure there are no enemies, go to Autopilot. Then select `Next Waypoint` several times (check how many there are on the map to get to base).

2. Just select `Return to base` when in Autopilot. Simple.

I personally fly home myself ESPECIALLY if injured or damaged. I`d advise this.

p.s. If there are enemies just fly low and fast until you are clear then do as above. Er, Antifreeze, your plane will go to next waypoint if you command whole section in autopilot.

Hmmm... I'll try that 'return to base' command.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Edit:
'return to base' didn't work for my autopilot, although the AI went home.
'next waypoint' works, but only if you're in conrol of at least one flight group; you can't give the command otherwise.

Better than nothing I suppose, but I just wish FB had a 'level flight' autopilot for dealing with interuptions whilst playing (and I wish it worked online too!).

Or just keep an empty bottle by your seat http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/93.gif

I agree - be a brave pilot and bring your empty bottle with you.

You're playing full real right?

Salute!
