Anyway, I still miss Hurricanes and Spitfires with large Vokes filters under nose.

109s can pretend to be tropicalised because their side filters, although clearly visible, can be omitted without much pain.

But the profile of English fighters was severely altered with the desert filters, and we really don't have true Med allied aircraft, except those Hawks.

That's the main reason I have not made any desert skin yet.

But, hey, that map is great anyway, and builders are making a nice job.

What Bird is demonstrating is extremely cool and I very much respect his ingenious thinking and the points raised in the FMB thread are perfect for increasing immersion:

quote:
Bird Said:
You now have an enemy base down the coast in uncharted territory. The only problem is that your in flight map no longer works. Why? because when you fly off the map, it won't follow your path anymore. Not a big issue on the desert map because if you get lost, all you have to do is turn North & follow the coast back to the mountain range. Now we are even simulating navigation problems faced by real pilots and the "Fog of War". You can't see your enemies icons or the target icons either. That means your briefings are going to have to be very thorough with time & distance to your waypoints.

As Bird stated also, this would be a very challenging map to fly on, but the sense of immersion is increased, just as it is for most people when you fly full switch. Lack of a map altogether and navigating by a stop watch to me is about as immersive as it gets.

(And something I am terrible at http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

Thats the kind of thing that makes this community great...the ingenuity and diversity we have. Personally I probably never would have thought about using a map in this manner but after reading Birds well written commentary on how to do this, I am already considering some ideas.

Thanks Bird for coming up with this and thanks also Lexx for posting this in GD so that the majority of us would get to read it.

<S>

If anyone will come with a workaround to add triggers then I'll be really happy. Neverthless, interesting find.

I just got Bird's demo missions on the desert map. I've decided that this guy is a genius. I played one mission, and won't give it away, but there are some serious surprises in store for the pilot that takes the time to enjoy this.

Tsisqua

Dude, as a programmer myself I can't tell you how much we are missing in this game when it comes to simulating the frontline battlefield environment beyond the cockpit.

On any other gaming board they talk about THE GAME and what happens. Not here, its all FM talk or something that is related strictly with internet Brownie Point scoring. If Oleg actually programmed a CPU/RAM scalable battlefront mission generator you would hear talk about our side managed to prevent this river crossing or our side failed to protect this city and so on. When people start quoting the third significant digit out of books and start Whining, then you know they are bored with THE GAME.

Oh, yes, Lexx. I'm not a programmer, but I know that you are dead-on. I'd love to have that top-secret map tool that we aren't allowed to see. Better yet, I wish that you had it, cause the word from inside is that it takes a programmer to use it.

Imagine: All of Europe in one map . . . sigh!
