From my understanding it's a slightly tweaked GF4.... If I were to go Nvidia I wouldnt go less than a 5700Ultra.

You got it wrong, Bear! It's not a tweaked GF4, but rather a poor, pathetic GPU that is DX 9 compliant, but does not even have the power to run DX 8 applications properly. DX9 looks like a slideshow on that card. Been there, so I know what I'm talking about. So, my advice is to stay away from ANY FX card, except the high end ones (5900/5950). I had to sell mine FX 5200 only a week after I purchased it, feeling tricked by nVIDIA, with all their claims and promisses. Go for Radeon 9600/9500/9700/9800 (in this order) for now. We'll see what nVIDIA can do in the future.

Either go FX 5700 or FX 5900 OR goto the ATI camp and get a Radeon 9600 through 9800.

And if you go the 5700route MAKE SURE IT's a ULTRA.

I just got the 128 mb Fx 5700 Ultra before the holiday for my Athlon XP 2200. Very impressed with the fps gain over my old Ti4200 64mb and you can overclock it with no problems too. The Gainward version of this card comes pre-overclocked and easily outperforms the ATI 9600 XT's. Do not get that 5200 card, you will be disappointed !

I am amazed at some of these responses... namely: "So, my advice is to stay away from ANY FX card, except the high end ones (5900/5950)."

That is just plain rediculous. Not everyone can afford to spend $400 on a graphics card and there is NO reason to get the top of the line.

Yes, the 5200 isn't as good as some, including the GF4 Ti4200 and yes, you might be able to do a bit better IF you want to spend the extra money.

I am using a 5600 Ultra and it seems to work just fine for IL2 FB, Ghost Recon and most of my other games with the exception of Halo. Halo on the PC is not worth the money. Way too slow. Unless I buy a top end graphics card and it isn't worth just for one game.

Can you get the PC without a graphics card? Then just go buy something a bit better for probably less than Dell will charge you.

Visit http://www.tomshardwareguide.com and look for their video card section. They have comparison charts that show how all the cards stack up against each other.

And WOW! Look at that! Just TODAY they have posted a new article that compares all the new graphics cards: (ask and ye shall receive!) http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.html

I also don't buy the comments that Nvidia isn't worth it compared to ATI. That is just plain wrong. Yes, the ATI cards (Radeon series) might be a bit better in a few statictics. But probably not such that anyone can actually TELL while playing a game. Nvidia has much better support for their drivers and I have seen a lot of threads on this forum about problems with ATI cards and needing patches for them. Not so of Nvidia.

That being said, the new article probably contradicts what I just said!

Good luck.

Hi here is a test of grafikcards were they use FB for benchmarking http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/graphics-cards-2003_35.html

I've got one and am pleased with the performance. Obviously a more expensive card would please me more but it's all relative.

Halo on the PC is not worth the money.? kidding right?..

the 5900 with 256 mb is not that expensive and perform real good.

the reason you should stay away from anything less than FX5900 is because you can go to ATi, and get something that outperforms the nVidia counterpart and no difference in cost. If anything the ATi's might be cheaper.

I've got one as well (G-Force FX 5200) and it handles everthing just fine for me.

I run FB at 1024x768x32 and everything set to excellent with no problems that I haven't read about any other graphics card having, for example dogfights over HUGE cities like Berlin will cause FR drop with all the buildings (500,000+) anti AAA going off, etc.

I don't know of any card that handles that situation with no problems however. My card was only about $119 however, so if you want to pay $400-500 for the latest and greatest I guess you should get better performance.

In my opinion it's just not worth it.

Don't know what Dell is charging you but you could also consider getting the 5200 yourself and installing it - it's super easy.
